My boyfriend is amazing ! He told me he would take me away on a romantic weekend as a present for my birthday. What he kept secret was the destination...
1* for the Vision : as I saw the sign and the entrance to the driveway, I couldn't believe where we were going. But when I saw the place, it made me speechless. It is a real medieval castle turned into a hotel. An aisle was added to create the spa and a number of additional rooms as well. I am a princess as heart, so going to a castle to get pampered at the spa was a dream !
1* for the Decoration : we parked the car in front of the castle and we entered through the main door. There is a vestibule before reaching the reception area. The coat of arm showing on the carpet, the apparent grey stones, and an old sculpted clock set the tone. Then you open a wooden door and enter the reception area. Above the front desk, on the wall, is the portrait of a man in a military costume. Hanging on the ceiling a beautiful cristal chandelier shining in the day light. On the same from you will find the restaurant, the drawing room, and a smaller drawing room. The furniture is made of sculpted wooden pieces, antique gold framed paintings, cristal chandeliers, coat of arms, knight armors, and an impeccably dressed staff.
1* for the Staff : the staff was - without exception - helpful, friendly, understanding, interested, and most of all genuinly kind. A receptionist gave us our keys and a majordome walked us to our room...
1* For the Bedroom : My beau asked for the best room in the castle. We ended up with the Bridal Suite! (Hidden message? FYI no proposal was made that weekend :) As you come in the room, you find the bathroom in front of you (with bathtub AND shower, both so big you can fit 2 people easily. Oh wait, it's the Bridal Suite. Ok now it makes total sense haha). Once you step on your right, the immaculate cream carpet brings you to the bed. A King size wooden carved bed covered in a pile fancy pillows. At the end of the bed was a leather bench. In front of the bed was a sofa - covered in pillows as well - and an armchair. On the left of the bed, by a huge window was a wooden desk and a safe. On both side of the bed were 2 bedside wooden pieces topped by a vintage looking lamp. In front of the bed, behind the sofa, another huge window. The light was coming from all sides, the view on the park was out of a fairytale! On the right of the bed was a wooden wardrobe, so old it makes a squiky sound. Inside, 2 bathrobes, with matching slippers, showing the coat of arm of the castle. Also, the room provided a hair dryer, an iron + board. It was so beautiful we were hesitant to mess up any of it at first. And then we just litterally jumped on the bed :D
1* For the Spa : The entire spa is made of dark wood, the place is spacious, quiet, warm, and lit up in such a way that we forgot about time. One section of the spa is for the public - with a huge swimming-pool, a sauna, a steam-room, and a jaccuzi. Another section is for those who are booked in for spa treatments, and you kind find multiple jaccuzis, a sauna, a steam-room, a relaxation area, and the treatment rooms. We had spa treatments booked for us, a hot stone massage for him and a facial for me. I think I have never been so relaxed in my entire life !
The overall experience was amazing. At some point the second day, we went for a walk around the castle and in the little forest located in the estate. The weather was a bit humid, a slight drizzle welcomed us outside. It made the scenery so mysterious. Soon after we found ourselves at the edge of a lake. Beautiful, romantic, as Robinson Crusoe and Friday blending with Nature. Being the autochton, my Irish boyfriend was Friday, and I being the foreigner was Robinson. Plausible, indeed :)
I highly recommend this place. It is a dream ! We have already booked ourselves a treat of a weekend for next summer. Crazy in love with OUR castle. Let me know if you have any questions and I will get back to you asap. Enjoy :D read more
