Cool and easy location to access Sligo. Clean rooms. Breakfast buffet was good but the sausage Pattie's were very dry

This hotel is quite awesome and deserving of a huge shout out. The design alone is impressive as it is situated on the river and looks like a ship docked in harbor. It's ultra modern vibe with two bars and an award winning restaurant adds to the details that were certainly not overlooked when designing it. Although I personally am not a fan of orange and my room has orange chairs and carpet, that is a minor detail that can easily be overlooked. I know some rooms are orange and some are green. The carpet along the hallways and art work actually reminds me of Coachella which is hilarious since it was pretty recent. The bed is super comfortable and the pillows also extremely comfortable. Only in the middle of the night did I notice that the bed was actually two twin beds pushed together to make a queen size bed. I switched back to the right side and fell back asleep comfortably. The room was extremely spacious and the view of the river from my room remarkable. The bathroom clean and sleek and stocked with the perfect toiletries including liquid body wash which I prefer so much compared to the bars of soap that dry out your skin. For dinner, I went to the cafe on the first floor that serves food until 10 pm and had a delicious vegetable soup with brown bread, as well as an apple and pear tart with crumble served with vanilla custard and whipped cream. The best surprise was the two mini Cadbury eggs on the exquisite plating. They are my favorite Easter candy, and they taste so much better in Ireland than in the States. I was full from the lunch I had, but I knew if I didn't eat I would wake up in the middle of the night famished. Breakfast is served in The Kitchen and is a nice buffet served with options for people who prefer gluten free. I think breakfast is my least favorite meal in Ireland because I just don't enjoy black pudding and beans with overly seasoned grilled tomatoes, but I have been content when I find porridge and fruit. I did enjoy fried egg whites and delicious bread with some fruit...and the butter. Irish butter is just so good. This hotel is sure to please everyone who stays here, and I highly recommend it when in Sligo. read more

The hotel is very pretty inside and out - love the glass/modern architecture and it sits right by the river with a beautiful view of Sligo. The room was spacious enough and everything was good with the exception of one thing - the windows. We would have had a great view except the window was small and very high up so you couldn't see out of it at all. On top of that there was something wrong with the curtains that wouldn't cover the whole window so there was no way to make the room completely dark, which stinks in May with the long daylight hours. Otherwise everything was great. I especially liked their included breakfast - tons of options in the buffet and stuff to make a full Irish breakfast! Yum. read more

I have stayed at hotels all over Ireland and this is by far my favorite. From the very welcoming and accommodatibig staff to its ideal central location in Sligo, it is always a delight to visit. The rooms are spacious and clean, the restaurants are excellent and reasonably priced. The housekeeping is commendable, and although I don't use it, parking is conveniently on site. read more

This hotel is beautiful from the outside. It is exactly as it sounds a glasshouse, which although beautiful isnt always the best for functionality. With floor to ceiling windows our room was on the cold side, our view was of the building next door, and it was hard to keep the light out. I am sure the rooms facing the river had better views and in the summer temp could be perfect unless the sun shined in all day. The parking is not free so you will need to plan ahead for that and it's not very expensive. However, the underground parking structure isn't easy to navigate and signage is somewhat minimal so we ended up having to re-Park after we checked in and brought our luggage up - multiple trips to the garage could have been avoided with better instructions. The room we had was large and relatively quiet. Most importantly the bed was comfortable and large. However, using the television, WiFi, etc required using an instruction manual that we had to search for and it wasn't exactly marked. The breakfast that was included was okay, but that beautiful glass made table choice tough as the direct sunlight www blinding and there are not a lot of options. I recommend sunglasses. Overall it was fine for the night, but nothing special. read more

For what it is, it's fine. By that I mean after staying for weeks in Airbnbs all over Ireland, all of which had their own special touches, charm, and amenities, this hotel felt a bit minimalist and impersonal. Location was FANTASTIC. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was on the small side. The staff is clearly doing their best to maintain COVID protocols and keep the ship righted, but I did notice that high-traffic areas like the carpets in the hallways and next to the restaurant were quite soiled (it is winter, fwiw.) We were awakened 2 of 3 nights during our stay by loud, obnoxious guests coming back (from pubs, I'd guess?? Not sure how given the restrictions?) at 1-2am. It really was the behavior of other guests during this current Omicron surge that made us most uncomfortable. There's only so much the staff can do. The best part of the room/experience was the river view with the balcony (we had a deluxe room.) There were some parts of the room we didn't understand, like what looked like a light inside a glass-paneled area in the armoire. However the light never worked. In sum, it was fine, though if we are going to pay that much for lodging, we'd probably try to Airbnb a place with more privacy for slightly lower price. I'll finish by saying again that all the staff we interacted with were excellent. read more

Doesn't seem to be adequately maintained, and the room is rather small. We had great service from the waiter in the hotel restaurant, where we had dinner one night because they had a decent special in the bar area. That, and the excellent location, has me giving it three stars. But the hotel itself was a disappointment. read more

This hotel is pretty nice. We had a big room with a great view. The window opens a little so you can hear the river! The bathroom only has a shower, no bath and I think ours was a handicap bathroom (the sink was super low to the ground and the shower was kind of part of the bathroom lol nothing to step into). They have a restaurant and bar area downstairs. At the bar area they had a special that was buy a main dish and get a drink (house beer, house wine, or soda) for €15. The breakfast is good! Traditional Irish breakfast with a fruit and yogurt buffet, different cereals, pastries, and juices. You have to pay €3 for parking and you can pay at the front desk. The parking structure is actually 3 stories and you work your way down if you can't find parking. read more

I would have loved to try an evening meal during my recent stay but I only had time for a breakfast. The following morning called for only one type of breakfast - a large fry up - bacon, fried eggs, scrambled, hash browns, sausage, you get the picture. Although there was plenty of healthy options available too if you were inclined. It's been a while since I had a really great fry and with fresh orange juice and coffee served it was delicious. If I'm back in Sligo I'll definitely be back to try more from the menu. read more

I was so excited to stay in the Glasshouse recently as I had read such good reviews. Unfortunately it did not translate to my weekend stay. The hotel is decorated garishly. I think it is some attempt to be stylish and modern a bit like the G Hotel, but it ends up looking trashy and painfully dated. The room itself was fine, but was certainly nothing spectacular. Soap and shampoo from a push-pump bottle is really not four star standard. The breakfast in the mornings was ok. The staff mostly seemed to be very untrained however and lacking in basic customer service and common sense. They were not friendly (with the exception of some bar staff) and not professional. I also did not appreciate the parking charge of 3 euro for guests, which you were required to pay each time you took your car out from the car park. When checking out I also informed the receptionist that someone had been smoking in the room next to ours, and the smell was very off-putting. She replied "Oh". I was so shocked that she didn't offer an apology, or offer to look into it in any way. She merely said "oh", and acted disinterested. I was really annoyed about it so I actually phoned the hotel the following day to inform the manager. The manager said she would look into it, but didn't really apologise and did not take my number or follow up on it in any way. She asked why I didn't report it to staff sooner, and said that no one else had reported smoking to the manager. The way she said this almost seemed accusatory. I found the whole situation dealt with very unprofessionally. I had elected to give the hotel the chance to redeem themselves by calling them instead of leaving a negative review first, but I was very disappointed with the response I was given. I would not advise anyone to stay in this hotel. read more

Hotel car park quite difficult to find with Sligo's one way system, you have to drive along the front of the river facing the hotel and then around the back. Free car parking not available, €3 per day is charged at check out. We stayed in the deluxe Riverview room. Very spacious, with king size bed, free WiFi, ironing board and iron, kettle and tea, coffee and milk, bath robes and slippers, tv with local and free view channels. Good sized balcony overlooking the river. Breakfast served from 7am to 10am. Buffet breakfast, fried foods, cereals, fruit, pastry's, juices and smoothies available or omelettes and other breakfasts available to order. Hotel bar was also overlooking the river, full menu available until 9.30pm, bar open until 1pm. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Recommended some fab places to eat and go out. Hotel is located centrally to all shops, restaurants and bars. Will definitely return. read more

This is a very modern looking hotel with an aesthetic that can be a little much if it isn't to your taste. It is very funky looking. The staff is very friendly; service was slow in the restaurant, however. Not a bother, just something to keep in mind. Sidenote: if you are staying here, take a walk down to The Swagman. I stayed here a few weeks ago. As I sat on my Ryanair flight to West Knock (a shed in a field) I had no idea that this hotel was going to be quite as smart as it was. Scenically sat on the quayside in the heart of the Atlantic town Sligo, the 4* Glasshouse is very much a Design Hotel. This means funky colours, vector cartoon prints on the walls, curvy bars, floors decorated in alternate shades of lime green and orange, and a massive chandelier in the reception area. If you are coming to Ireland looking for Ye Olde Rustic Charme of the Olde Country, this is not a good place to come. The hotel is built overhanging a bridge and weir on the river Garavogue. Being so close to the sea, this is tidal, so the level rises and falls noticably through the day. Despite the rooms being painted in either orange or lime green, this has been done with a certain amount of style, and, bizarrely, the colour scheme really works. Rooms are large and clean, bathrooms well appointed and beds comfy. The restaurant and bar menu are both excellent. The restaurant is recommended in the Michelin Guide and is not cheap, but the food is very good, and the portion sizes are frankly terrifying, so it would be quite practical to save your entire day's food budget for the evening! The bar menu is a fair bit cheaper - portions are, once again, massive, and the quality is equally high. What gets this hotel the final star is the quality of the staff. They are impeccably professional, polite and helpful. The (English) manager of the hotel was particularly charming and took a real interest in the group I was staying with. The hotel's bar is open to the town, so you can mix it with the locals in the evening. And, I'm delighted to report, despite the upmarket styling, we all still managed to end up belting out "Molly Malone" and various other well known Irish classics alongside the Sligo residents who were there until 4 in the morning. Spent two nights in a deluxe suite on the 6th floor, which included its own outdoor patio (enough space for you and 15-20 of your closest friends!). Overall a great stay, knocked one star off because the cleaning staff took until 4p to swing by and clean the room. My wife and I just returned to the hotel for a rest/shower before heading out for the evening. 4p is just too late. Lobby bar food is quite good, though some of the staff, while well intentioned, come off a bit aloof. Parking directly underneath hotel. read more

The staff were extremely pleasant at reception and in the bar where I had a lovely bowl of soup for a mid day snack (young male bar staff during saturday was exceptionally friendly which isnt very common these days). Rooms are a good size with the usual extra large king size bed. Each floor in the hotel has a different colour theme it would appear. We had orange, so some orange walls, net curtain, end of bed throw, bed cushions and chairs. Its so nice to see a hotel use colour!!! Bathroom also a good size. Only issue, which does seem to be a problem, is the heat was unbearable! Breakfast was good, nice and fresh and no rushing when it was supposed to finish at 10.30am. This is a great hotel, in a great location. Only down side is its highly likely to get the hen nights staying and this brings a lot of noise!!! But i suppose its an excuse to drink a few more to make sure you sleep!!!! read more

Moderne hotel with style. I will try to cover what others haven't mentioned. Parking: free in the underground garage--just park and they validate your ticket whenever you want to go out. Location: in the middle of town, across from the Yeats Memorial Building, less than a block from pedestrian areas with many restaurants and pubs. Swans frequently gather in the river right next to the hotel. Internet connection: free, fast, easy to connect. Good desk for working at a computer. Iron, ironing board, coffee/tea maker in room. Clothesline in bath/shower. Sink in bathroom has an unusual drain--I couldn't figure out how to open it and I'm a mechanical engineer. Turns out you push on the chrome plug with a finger and it flips up! An example of the futuristic sort of stuff they have here. Good if you want something different or prefer the modern style. Furniture in room and breakfast area have a few stains and show some wear, so not quite 5 star quality. read more

Got barred after enjoying coffee and tea there for weeks. Was nicer than most cafes in the area but suddenly after weeks of enjoying the place as a cafe the manager tells me to get out because the area I was sitting in was private despite other staff never having a problem with me being there and in fact I was originally told to go there by a lovely waiter who brought me coffee and said the WiFi was strong at those tables. Never been barred from an establishment in my life. Most of the staff are nice except what I assume was the manager and one lady who would always gawk at me like I had two heads. The manager asked if I was a guest so if I said yes instead of no who knows if he would've decided my money was good enough. Stared me out of the place while I left as if I was a trouble maker when all I was doing was sipping on a glass quietly. The disrespect was unreal. Stuck up place. Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone unless you're a fan of spontaneous discrimination and hyper suspicious middle management. read more

I went to the Glasshouse in August of 2010 and I had the most wonderful stay! The hotel is incredibly modern with super cool architecture, as well as incredibly comfortable rooms with TVs and free internet access. I stayed here for a week and I had great food and drinks every day from a friendly staff. One night I even came down to the lobby at 11 PM and I found an LGBT party going on with some of the nicest people I've ever met. This hotel is so trendy but also classic with their great amenities and help. I definitely recommend staying at the Glasshouse, and I would love to come back again. read more

There was a weird painting in my hotel room of a cowboy wearing a pink hat and it just made me feel very uncomfortable, lol!! This hotel is not for everyone. Our room was on the third floor, and we could hear the live music coming from the bar on the ground floor. If you are looking for a "hip and happening" location, this might be for you. If you are looking for anywhere quiet, this is not the place for you. My primary complaint though was with the staff. Of the 12 places we stayed throughout our trip through Ireland, this was the ONLY place we stayed where the staff was not friendly and welcoming. Upon check-in, I asked a simple question about local amenities and the receptionist just replied "You won't find that here." No more information, or explanation, or suggestion... just that and then she went back to doing something else. In the morning, we woke to find that there was no hot water. We informed reception and they just replied that the hot water was out on the whole third floor and that maintenance was coming to fix it. Now I would not expect anything like a free night for our troubles, but I think an apology for the circumstances would have been in order (and the natural response to someone bringing this to their attention), or maybe offering to switch us to another room, or saying "here's a card for a free drink for the inconvenience" -- SOMETHING to acknowledge that it was not pleasant to take a freezing cold shower. But we didn't get any sort of apology for the situation - just the explanation that hot water was out on the whole floor and the inference that it was "too bad for us". So all in all should we ever return to Sligo, we would choose to stay elsewhere. read more
