Usually massage places go with an East Asian theme, so I appreciated the unique theme! She has great hand strength and was very diligent about trying to get the knots out of my neck and shoulders. I had a regular Swedish massage. In the past I've come out of a massage feeling super oily from the products used, which then tends to make me feel icky. Marleny's massage oil/lotion did not leave me feeling icky! The space is new and very clean and inviting. It faces JFK drive but I never heard any car noise. During the service, I experienced clear indications of improper technique and negligent care: Excessive Heat: The applied beeswax felt excessively hot, indicating an improper temperature setting. Aggressive Removal: The removal of the wax sheet by the esthetician was noticeably aggressive and forceful. Immediate Pain & Acknowledgment: Immediately after the wax removal, I informed the esthetician, Treasure, that the areas above and between my eyebrows were extremely painful. Negligent Aftercare: I questioned whether a proper post-wax cleanser (such as rubbing alcohol) had been used. Treasure confirmed that "No" such cleanser was applied. I was only advised to use a generic ointment and Vitamin E oil. Upon returning home, the painful area above and between my eyebrows became severely red and inflamed. I subsequently confirmed that the skin in these blotches-on both sides above the brow and between the brows-had been physically lifted and removed (skin abrasion/burn). Current State of Injury: The damaged area has progressed from red to pink and is now a noticeable brown/hyperpigmented color. Permanent Damage: The injury to the skin, particularly above the left eyebrow, remains visible even after two professional consultations, indicating permanent damage and a high risk of long-term scarring. Personal and Professional Impact: I have been forced to stay indoors and rigorously avoid all sun exposure to prevent further hyperpigmentation. Unfortunately, after purchasing the package, I had to undergo surgery under my arm for medical reasons. As a result, I was able to complete the Brazilian sessions but was unable to use any of the eight underarm sessions that were included in my package. Given the unexpected medical circumstances, I reached out to the Clifton location multiple times over the past several months to see if some type of accommodation could be made for the eight unused underarm session, but all they kept doing was offering me an ADDITIONAL package to pay for. I was told by the front desk that the underarm sessions were "complimentary" and therefore there was nothing they could do. I obviously would not have purchased the original package had I known that I would ultimately be unable to use the full thing due to circumstances outside of my control. I then requested to speak with a manager. I called the location numerous times over the course of several weeks and repeatedly requested a callback, but I never received one. I continued following up and was eventually told that my situation would be escalated to upper management. After waiting and following up again multiple times, I was then informed that a request had never actually been submitted in the first place. I was told that they would submit the request at that point, and I again specifically asked for a manager to contact me that same day. Despite this, I still did not receive a call. On top of all of this, I even emailed their headquarters last week and even after two follow ups I STILL haven't received a response. This entire process has left me extremely disappointed with the level of customer service I have received.
