Stopped in to get the previous nail gel off of my fingers. They were starting to chip pretty bad and I happen to be in the neighborhood. This was my first time there. It was pretty quiet for a Friday. I was the only customer and I was taken care of immediately. They did a great job in getting the previous polish off. They, like many nail salons, prefer tips to be in cash. One downside is that they do not accept American Express for payment only visa or MasterCard. I just moved here from California and have been trying to find my new go to nail salon. I can't say I've found it because I prob will test out a few others but I can say I had a decent experience and lives the way my nails turned out. I had an 11 am appointment and got started right away and was out in 50 min which works for me. I don't like spending all day in a salon or even over an hour. I did notice that some people came in after me that didn't have an appointment and we're turned down and one lady waited a good 20-30 min before they got started with her. If only Yelp had zero star ratings... this company would get one. If you have a three year old in your family, you'd be better off having them do your nails then going here. I personally haven't been here, but my sister and her friend went here last night. That's when the day took a turn for the worse. When she told me that the owner is the one who did her nails, I was expecting a fabulous review and nails that looked stupendous. You could imagine my surprise when she was rather upset - and more importantly - uncomfortable and in pain. As you can see in the attached photos, the salon owner (she believes his name is Denny, but it may be Danny), either doesn't know where a cuticle ends and a finger begins or simply doesn't care - both which make him not only unqualified to own a nail salon, but even more so to do nails. Obviously, my sister and her friend displayed a level of annoyance, as I'm sure many would do in a situation that they were in - where someone providing a service doesn't take responsibility. This resulted in both of their nail totals being up charged $5.00 from the displayed, and agreed upon, price. I can only imagine this would have happened because he didn't think he would have gotten a tip - which at least he would've been knowledgeable enough to read the room and understand that. But to up charge because he did an awful job... why is the customer paying for that? This... 'business' was contacted today regarding this matter. Logical, reasonable people would generally assume responsibility when they injure a customer, but the response that they got was that "that happens sometimes". Do your nails at home or go to a reputable business, that stands by the pricing displayed & that doesn't injure their customers (and the people who keep them in business) "sometimes", and when they do injure or do wrong to their patrons, they promptly fix it. Although this is my go-to salon in Madison, it tends to be hit or miss. When they're not swamped with walk-ins and appointments, service here is top notch. Everyone is super nice and accommodating. Love the glass of wine you get with your service! They also generally do a great job at both manicures and pedicures. However when they're busy, I've been very disappointed with their service and quality. The last shellac manicure I had began peeling in 3 days, definitely not what you expect or pay for. The polish application was also very messy and uneven. They didn't apply enough coats and it was see through in parts. They should utilize the other half of their building for additional pedicures and manicures and hire more staff. I think this would help their throughput and quality issues. read more

I got a mani/pedi and the difference between the manicure and pedicure were night and day. I would like to give the pedicure a 4/5 stars - it was relaxing, a calm environment, though some interesting 80's music choices. I had a glass of white wine while I read and had a foot massage and got my toes painted a deep read. The woman was sweet and not chatty and had a pleasant smile. I loved every minute of it. I cross to the other side of the wall am greeted by a woman who looks at my choice of nail polish and rolls her eyes - "do you want a shellac? Because this will come off in 1 day!" Curious on why they would distribute such an inferior product, I inquire about the price of this and find out its double the cost - a bit outrageous as someone who was just looking to get some relaxation after a Monday at work. She rolls her eyes again as I agree to the "one day" manicure, which she reminds me of multiple times. My nails are trimmed speedily and inconsistently. She then asks if I want to pay and I agree that's probably best. She paints my nails sloppily and quickly as there is another woman, a walk in, who wants a shellac. My fingers are stained with polish and she pointedly asks if I would like and eyebrow wax after looking at my eyebrows. I'm ushered to the drying area with no goodbye, no offer for any water, or any warm remark. With not much guidance on where or what I was doing, I burn my hand on the black light and leave in frustration as there is no one in a 10 foot radius of me. Looking at my nails now, I think I would rather pay a middle school girl to do a better job. My niece and I stopped in for a walk in manicure and no chip manicure. The salon was dirty. The technicians did a fair job but were rude and acted angry. Mine was on the phone the whole time and was actually rough moving my hands with impatience. I did notice the technician next to us seemed nice and friendly. I never saw anything resembling honey but they did pour some white murky liquid into the water. Then she tells me there is an up charge of 4 bucks on the OPI polish I picked out after I was sitting in the chair. Really?! No sign over the polish area to warn people. My one foot is still red from the scalding wax treatment. She kneaded my foot so hard I thought she would break a bone! Still have dry calluses on my heels- she barely touched them. We walked in at 6:40pm on a Saturday - everyone looked up and stared - until someone at the counter finally said, "can I help you?" I said we were here for a mani-pedi and asked if they had time for walk-ins. They brightly said, "sure!" and got a couple of chairs ready right away. It wasn't until later I realized they close promptly at 7pm, and I felt like a big jerk!! I was grateful they took us in, since we were looking forward to our pedis all day and went out of our way to get here. The managers ended up staying an hour past closing to make sure my mani was perfect and completely dry before walking out the door. Our technicians spared no effort in making sure our pedis were soothing, enjoyable, and detailed. Competition must be fierce since we were seated in upgraded massage chairs, and offered water, soda, or a glass of wine to go with our pedis. The basic pedi package for $32 comes with a leg massage and paraffin wax treatment. In my experience at other places, the wax treatment is usually extra, so I've never had the chance to experience it until now! The ambiance is really fun and relaxing -- they had some colorful lights, a chandelier, and beautiful polished counters -- this would be a great place to take a wedding party or spa date. Their attention to detail, warm staff, and above all their perks for the price, make this place worth the drive from campus. Other than feeling like a jerk customer for arriving close to closing, it was the best mani-pedi experience I've had in recent memory. P.S. They take card, but appreciate cash. I called around 9:50am on a Saturday and booked a 10:30am pedicure appointment. When I arrived at 10:30, I didn't have to wait at all. They took me straight to the pedicure chair. The place is very clean. The pedicure tubs are lined with plastic. They use new nail tools for each person, and they open the package in front of you. I got the organic orange pedicure. Lotus is FANTASTIC! I've been going there since they opened and have consistently gotten fast, high-quality service. Their shellac manicures are long-lasting and they have a wide range of colors. They are also great with nail art. One of the techs freehanded a design for me that I got compliments on for weeks. I took in a picture of a mani I found online and they executed it perfectly! I have gotten one pedicure there and it was okay. They have many different pedis to choose from and the basic one includes a paraffin wax, but callous removal costs extra. Also, my color chipped within a week--it may have been the polish I chose. They do take walk-ins, but it's best to make an appointment as they are quite busy. Also, pay with cash or check as they charge $1 for credit/debit card transactions (there is an ATM in the salon for convenience). Overall this place is great. I used to go to another nail salon in Madison and they charged quite a bit more and took a whole lot longer. Worst place ever. Went for a pedicure and left bleeding and going to the ER. 26 stitches later. Extremely negligent. Do not go. They do not clean properly and inspect their equipment. They use plastic bags over the bowls so they don't have to disinfect. The bowl broke on my foot. My foot was bleeding very badly and they tried to put cotton on it to stop the bleeding. I drove myself to the ER. They didn't even call an ambulance or even offer. As I was leaving they were mopping the floor with a dry mop to soak up the blood, and water that was everywhere. A good friend of mine and I came to this salon today after reading some of these fabulous reviews here on yelp. Needless to say, among arriving I was absolutely BLOWN AWAY! Not only was the salon clean and absolutely gorgeous... The nail technicians/artists were all fabulous as well! We were greeted, and although it was busy and we had a bit of a wait... We were immediately catered to by the salon staff who showed us AMAZING hospitality! We were brought several glasses of complimentary wine during our wait while we were getting our manicures done! The nail technicians were amazing! Willing to paint any design you asked them to do. The shellac manicure set is amazing and Very high quality with so many options of colors! I also had an eyebrow wax, and that was amazingly done as well! They charged me $60 to files all of my nails completely down to the stubs to the point where my toes hurt and I had to ask her to stop. I told her I wasn't happy they told me they would give me a full refund over the phone & when I went in the offered to try and fix my big toes and I told them there is no nail to work with they then said they would give me a coupon and I told them I was not happy with their service and would just prefer a refund but they only gave me half. I also got gel on my toes and the gel ended up peeling off about 2 days later. I am very disappointed in the service I got and would advise you spend your money at Us nails in Monona. They are very sweet, listening and patient and always do an amazing job! All of my shellac polish nails "fell off" within 4 days. I'm not kidding. I spent $40 plus $8 tip thinking that the nails would last at least a week if not the 2 weeks they say. Yesterday I opened up a make up compact and I heard a snap... I looked at my nails and noticed my right thumb nail was clear and in the sink was the shellac! A full shellac nail in the sink. There is not a special chair, it's an awkward cushion for their back and a plastic bowl insert. There was nothing in the water, she didn't have a chance to soak her feet, and there was no towel wrap. The pedicure was quick and rushed, basically $25 for someone to paint tiny toes. And the WORST PART -- My daughter was then moved to a table for drying nails, instead of the typical purple LED lights, there were light bulbs that were left on and incredibly hot. I want to start by saying if I was only reviewing the pedicures I've gotten here, this would be a 4 star rating but.... Absolutely, hands down, the worst manicure I've ever received. I can't believe I even agreed to pay $45 for it. First, he was going so fast in an attempt to just get onto the next customer that as he was filing my nails, he sliced my finger open and fixed it with basically super glue with no warning. Just threw some on a cotton round AFTER I pointed out the fact that I was bleeding and smeared it right on. Not generally what I'm used to when getting a mani. Second, when I asked to have the corners rounded a little bit he told me "in a little bit" and then completely ignored my request the next time I brought it up before he applied the nail color. His response after was that they would round out as o typed through the week. So far my furious typing on this review has left my nails solid squares. My nails are all different lengths and not consistent at all. My cuticles look terrible. He scraped his hand against one of my fingers while applying the top coat and did not fix it so now I have a smeared nail. The acrylic doesn't even cover my entire nails so the sides are just open messes of extensions, glue, and poorly prepped natural nail. And the underside of everything is just a mess of chunks and rough. His response to me when I came back from washing my hands and he told me I was done, was to keep washing my hands- it will come off eventually. Now, all in all, I could maybe consider a two star for this except for the fact that I had my nails done for the wedding I'm in tomorrow. I will never be returning to this location. read more

The only issue was, that they chipped within 4 days. I sit at a desk all day. My nails should NOT chip that quickly. The man who did my pedicure was focused on talking to another woman in the salon and proceeded to rub my heel raw, causing a lot of pain and some blood. I'm also pretty positive that he made a racist comment about black people, to the woman next to me. Completely unacceptable. I don't believe that this sort of service is characteristic of this salon, but I can guarantee that I will not financially support an establishment that is tolerant of racist customer service. Perhaps I misunderstood his comment, but I think I would be lying to myself if I convinced myself that it wasn't actually a racist comment.
