The seafood here is delicious! Everything is so tasty and full of flavor. My husband is not a seafood person but not to worry since he got the arroz con pollo and side of fried thy he loved. Our waitress was the sweetest lady ever who let us know that the restaurant has been around for 34 years now and it shows!!

Serious Mofungo game here. It was actually because La Garita down the street was closed for the holiday that we discovered this spot for the first time. Good news for English speakers- the menu is bi-lingual while still having that local neighborhood feel. I was impressed with the quality of the chicken, and the portion of the octopus and pork for the prices. Portions will leave you with leftovers- and you will definitely want to eat them again. I wasn't going to get dessert, but glad we had a little pressure to go for it, because the flan was amazing. A part of me wishes that the lemonades were natural, but not everything can be amazing. If you like a really sweet, almost soda-like sangria, this is the one for you. Service was kind and patient, and on the more relaxed side- call them when you need them kind of vibe.

Catching up on reviews during this pandemic but I was here back in February and absolutely loved that I found this hidden gem via Yelp. The food was delicious here and hands down, one of the best meals I've had on my many trips to Puerto Rico. This place is really off the beaten path (a bit sketchy TBH) and the ambiance isn't that great, but who cares when the food is excellent? Service was good for the most part, a little slow in the beginning but it was busy in here. I got the seafood paella with tostones on the side and it was really delicious. Portion was huge (I should of shared it - I did do that towards the end of my trip with other places) but I did manage to finish it, haha! Couldn't let any of it go to waste :) Fried calamari was great as well. Highly recommend!

WOW. SIMPLY WOW. If you make it out to the Bacardi distillery, and are craving some delicious eats in the area, I highly encourage you to check out this AMAZING and super local spot. If you are not in the area, I still recommend it, because... well it's really THAT GOOD. The simple fact that the place was full of locals and constantly busy was a good sign. Don't let the humble exterior fool you - this spot is really legit. The menu is extensive and all plates can be made family style. Our carb cravings were REAL after our rum tasting tour, so we opted for the fettuccine with mixed seafood for one. Yes, this plate was for one but can EASILY feed two. If you have a large party, it's god to share if you order something else. But I digress... the creamy garlic sauce was reminiscent of an Alfredo sauce, and all the decadent goodness that comes along with it. There was also a mofongo in the middle of the dish - which was delightfully crunchy and paired so well with the sauce and pasta. They really did not skimp at all on the seafood - mussels, shrimp, fish, conch, calamari... it was all there and in abundance. We actually ran out of carb before we ran out of protein - can you believe that?! We also kept the party going with a pitcher of sangria. When they say a pitcher, it's a PITCHER. like the kind that you usually get water in. The beverage was sweet but not too overpowering and paired excellently with our meal. It was also reasonably priced at $24! The service here is outstanding. Familiar and polite, never pushy and super friendly - we received recommendations, mulitple check-ins during our meal, and just a lovely atmosphere for this dinner. Would go back in a heartbeat!

Wow, wow, wow, wow, wow!... What a way to end our last day in P.R, Bacardí tour (excellent) and top it off with a delicious dinner, an unexpected but great find. After we finished the tour we were starving, so the Yelpers that we are, we turned to our always faithful Yelp app and started browsing and came across Los Serranos, just a quick 5-7 minute drive from the distillery. From the moment we walked in, I felt a warm welcome, the ambiance is very home like, with pictures and artifacts from the sea. The restaurant was full with all local clientele, I feel we were the only outsiders which in my humble opinion was a good tell. The service was excellent, very polite, welcoming and honest. He was honest and transparent with us about their portions and how many people could feed off of one menu item. We had the Fettuccine con marisco (with seafood), I gotta tell you, my tastebuds were dancing of joy with this meal, oh and you get a complimentary seafood soup as well right from the start. Amazing food, excellent service, great vibe in and out in the streets a great experience overall.

THE BEST FOOD I'VE EVER EATEN IN P.R. I don't that that statement lightly either. This place is in the middle of a tiny town that one wouldn't look twice at - some stray dogs are running by and it's quiet... but when you open the doors to Los Serrano's you're in for a big surprise! Filled with people cheering a, talking, music, conversations, laughter. It's packed! The waiters are the owners and family members working together. They were very attentive, nice, and on it. The menu was in Spanish and English which was great. We didn't hesitate - we knew what was good here which was the Seafood Paella - we got the big portion that would feed all four of us and then some. We also got the skirt steak with chimmichurri - medium. Also the lobster. We also got a bunch more things because we really was eating with our eyes. Everything was cooked perfectly. Made to order, and so damn delicious!!!!! I really hope people come out here because this surpassed all of old San juans food.

We checked out the beach and decided to find this place for a quick bite before heading back to San Juan. Luckily we found parking within walking distance. We sat down and found the service to be super friendly and helpful, despite a slight language barrier. There were not that many people who spoke English at this establishment, but we muddle through with some Spanglish to success. I was really excited to try the mofongos, it being a sort of national dish. However, I found the mofongos to be a bit overwhelming. I loved the chicken dish I got. But I really did not understand what mofongo was until I was served. At which point I wish it was served with rice because I am not quite sure how to eat curried chicken and yam-like dish with a cabbage slaw. But maybe that's how all mofongo dishes are. Personally I just needed to cut through the dish with something like rice to enjoy it better. What I did enjoy was the corn fritters. OMG. These were incredible. I don't think I've ever had any like them. And they came with this pink sauce that definitely had some ketchup in it. Sooo good. I wish I could have packed those fritters and brought them home! If we ever came back, I would order corn fritters to go, take them to the beach and enjoy them by the ocean!

This place is a hidden gem. The seafood soup is delicious and so is the paella. Very authentic place and the food is very fresh. There was no wait and our food came pretty fast. Definitely a place to try while you're in Puerto Rico.

After a year I think is time to give this review a well deserved update. I keep coming back to this…read moreplace, I really love it--its one of those places that just gets it right! They offer a variety of herbal cocktail, with unique flavors and creative takes. My husband had a mezcal-base drink with herbs and he loved it--so much that he ended up having a few haha... I went for the classic Old Fashion which was OK, not great. I switched to a Moscow Mule after and that one was really good. Verde Mesa wins you over with freshness, balance, and a clear point of view rooted in farm-to-table cooking. Dishes feel vibrant, intentional and thoughtfully composed rather than heavy or overly manipulated. With that said, we began with the Kumamoto oyster, fresh and sweet. Then we had one of their classics, the sourdough toast with spread. This time they served it deconstructed--bread on the side and the spread separate-- and honestly, I like it better. The bread stays perfectly toasted, and you can built it yourself exactly how you want. The ribeye tartare was a pleasant surprise--rich, flavorful and paired with 'platanutres' (plantain chips) on the side, which complimented it really well. The only small note is that the chips were a bit too small to really build a proper bite with the tartare on top. Maybe using mariquitas would make that pairing even better. Also the tuna tiradito was well balanced with passion fruit, sesame seed vinaigrette and 'ají'. For mains, I had the pork cheeks stew, which was incredibly tender, soft and packed with flavor-- definitely a standout. My mom had the seared yellowfin tuna that came beautifully plated and the tuna had a vibrant red color that looked so appetizing. She really enjoy it, and said it was amazing. My husband had the mahi mahi fillet that came on a white cabbage stew and fish broth--he said he'll come back just for that single dish, that's how much he liked it. We saved some room for dessert and tried the tembleque and the tiramisu. The tembleque wasn't the most traditional version, but it had a subtle ginger hint that really worked and made it feel a bit more elevated. The tiramisu was also a great way to end the meal, creamy and indulgent. Overall, I would said the food matches the space-- artistic, cozy and a little whimsical. It's the kind of place where you slow down and enjoy each plate rather than rush through a meal.

Some dishes that I enjoyed: * Torched scallops * Tomato ceviche * Verde Mesa rice with chicken longanisa kofta add-on * Yellowfin tuna with roasted pumpkin and burnt daikon caramel The dishes sounded Asian on the menu, looked Asian in presentation, but tasted completely Latin -- that was the most interesting part of dining here. Verde Mesa rice was their signature dish, but I thought the components were weird. It had rice, vegetables, walnuts, cranberries, and Parmesan mixed together. It was a haphazard mess (1 star off). I added the chicken longanisa kofta, but not sure that tied the rice together either; it may have added to the scattered chaos. It was $40 for the chaotic rice mess and chicken longanisa kofta. I would have preferred something with less ingredients and better execution.
