We came here as it was recommended by the hotel concierge for seafood. I liked the vibe a lot-- mostly locals and casual. Our service was fast and friendly. We ordered the mofongo, fish broth, seafood paella, and the fried red snapper with shrimp. I thought the food was good and I'm not familiar with Puerto Rican food, so it's hard to say too much on whether it was good or not because I may just not be that familiar with the dishes and know enough to judge them, so putting that disclaimer out there. My friend loved the fish broth. He said it was very fresh and he could taste the bones and it reminded him of beach food in other islands. I tried it, and I thought it was definitely fish broth. So you want some authentic fish broth to take you back to your island days, this will do it. The mofongo was great. The first time I tried it, and it was starchy and fatty and flavorful, and I will definitely order this at other restaurants to see how they compare, but basically a better version of mashed potatoes. Literally as we were eating this, the chef walked by with a huge stalk of plantains. Great feels. The whole red snapper was great- we chose the Cajun seasoning, and it was served with tomatoes and shrimp. We gave the bones to the stray cat that was lounging next to us who chowed down. My friend put a napkin under the bones because he was worried about the floor, which the server thought was hysterical. The paella was rice with turmeric and some seafood mixed in. I would not order this again-- it was pretty basic. Overall, the area is fun and lots of places to go for drinks and parking is ample. We ordered a lot of food and drinks-- the mojitos were EXCELLENT, prices were reasonable, and we enjoyed our time here.
I was extremely disappointed with our experience. They ordered mofongo, which traditionally comes "relleno" (stuffed) with a choice of filling. However, this restaurant makes it with chicharrón (pork skin) without mentioning it on the menu. I do not eat pork, this was a major issue. The restaurant refused to take the mofongo back without charging them, even blaming the customer for not specifying no chicharrón. Then I overheard that the cost of the returned dishes would be taken from our server, Linda, who was very kind and treated poorly by the lady who said she represented management during the situation. This negative experience, especially the way the server was treated, means that I will not be returning. Neither should you. Vegans and vegetarians, stay away! FYI: floors were dirty, the young man bringing the food was very rude.
Not the best; not the worst. The main downside to Katrina's is the slow service. Even with the restaurant being 30% full, it was slow. Like 1 hour after ordering and the waitress disappears, the food comes out type of slow. In addition, this location is right near a very loud club on the beach. Music is insanely loud. The food was decent. I liked what I ordered (thankfully). But, for the money and time, this would not be my choice. If you need to be in this area and don't care about waiting a long time with blaring music and revving car engines, this is a good option. Otherwise, go elsewhere.
Came here for lunch around 1:30 on a Thursday. Had the place all to ourselves. Sat outside and although it was cloudy - we are by the beach! Great location right on the corner at the end of the road. Service is friendly. I had a conch cocktail. Fresh and not at all overpoweringly fishy. Then I had the mofo go with octopus and wife had El chillo. We ate everything because it was so tasty and fresh. Thank you! Vinimos aquí para almorzar alrededor de la 1:30 un jueves. Tenía el lugar para nosotros solos. Nos sentamos afuera y, aunque estaba nublado, ¡estamos junto a la playa! Excelente ubicación justo en la esquina al final de la calle. El servicio es amable. Tomé un cóctel de concha. Fresco y nada abrumadoramente sospechoso. Luego pedí el mofo con pulpo al ajillo y mi esposa pidió El chillo. Comimos de todo porque era muy sabroso y fresco. ¡Gracias!
Came to PR on a weekend visit. Lets just say this restaurant saved us from hotel food. If you come down with your American attitude then you need to stay home! Being a basic American girl the empanadas are everything. We had shrimp in coconut sauce, rice and peas, mufongo, etc. Everything was absolutely amazing. I wish I had taken more pictures but I think we were hungry.
Came here after spending the morning at Balenearo Cerro Gordo beach. At first glance at the menu and I thought whoa...this place is expensive! It has $$ on yelp but it's way more than that. Many dishes are $25-35. BUT....there are a few dishes less than that. I got the octopus salad for $19 and it was WORTH every penny. It was so huge...I ate half and brought the rest home for another meal. It was delicioso! Refreshing and tasty, not too acidic on a hot day. Service was fantastic-our server Adriana was awesome, so friendly and cheerful. Husband had pork fritas and French fries which he said was great-nice and crispy.

This place was really good! We started with the crab alcapurria, which was nice and flavorful. The steak mofongo was hands down the best--absolutely delicious. I ordered the conch salad thinking it was $18, but ended up with a $39 version on the bill. It was okay, though a bit more chewy than I prefer, and the portion was huge. It seems some items have a base price with add-ons.. definitely ask for clarification before ordering to avoid surprises. Besides the pricing confusion, the food is good, very flavorful and authentic. I'd definitely return now that I know to double-check the details upfront. Great spot overall! read more

Amazing food. The filete mero con relleno de langosta al terminador was amazing. The filete literally melts in your mouth as it's so good. The lobster filling was a bit salty but still some of the best seafood places I've visited. Also it is next to the dorado beach, which itself is an amazing clear water beach. Don't worry if you are wet from the beach,,. This restaurant will still let you sit down. read more

They make a really great virgin pika colada. Their chicken soup is also amazing. Service is quick. Food is really fresh and well prepared. Nice quick bite before the beach or after. read more

Dinner after arriving into Puerto Rico. Definitely plan for a wait no matter how many people are in the dining area. Order drinks and appetizers and just hang out before the dinner arrives. I recommended sorullos de maiz and empanadas chicharron de pollo. read more

The food was delicious.. service was great. More seaford in the bowl, shrimp. Mussel, calamari, even the steam veggie had a flavor. You will enjoy this local favorite. read more

This place came highly recommended from hotel staff and reviews from yelp. The woman who greeted us realized quickly we didn't speak Spanish. She was gracious and helped with recommendations. Everything was delicious. We had a crab empanada and shrimp fried with cheese. We moved on to the Katrina rice (minus skirt steak) and mofungo con camarones (garlic.) we split both and couldn't eat it all. Thank goodness our hotel has a microwave so we can take leftovers! FYI: water comes in a bottle, but they bring plastic cups with ice and straws. If we make it back we'll ask just for a bottle of water (no cup or straw) or just bring our own. read more

In search of a restaurant by the water where I could watch the rain fall and listen to the waves. Katrina's is across the street from the beach. . .Almost close enough. Dining for one, but curious. Full COVID protocols (and I really appreciate that). Must show Vax card and ID and have a mask. Indoor and outdoor seating. If you don't like flies, stay inside because the flies have much bigger friends outside - some very feisty crowd. I ordered the chicken with salsa appetizer. Much to my surprise, this included four little mofongo bowls filled with a delicious chicken stew. With a good salad, this would make a perfect meal. As a meal I ordered carne frita with maduros and a side salad. I should know better than to order a side salad in PR, but I was really craving veggies and trying to stay away from rice. The carne frita is fried chunks of pork, some with the skin. Done very nicely, but rather boring. Maduros perfect. Salad. . . Well. I decided to get a chicken empanada to go for dinner. Absolutely delicious. Filled with a slightly different chunky chicken stew. Service was okay. Really nice people, but maybe could use one more person on the floor. As I mentioned, there is a little beach across the street. If you want to do something a little off the beaten path, this could make for a nice afternoon. read more
I am having Puerto Rican food for the first time. I have been dying to try Morongo and so I got my dish. I ordered Morongo con camarones. It's Morongo with shrimp. Mofongo is green plantains with butter mashed with other things. It came with a sauce. It was think like a salsa type of sauce. It had a lot of flavor. I think it made the dish. As for the plantains by itself it did not have a lot of flavor but together with the sauce it was good. The shrimp was good. A good size and plenty. As they first sat us down. They gave us something in a little cup. They said it was a complement of the house. It looked like tea. To my surprise it was not. It was fish broth. It was good. It was just a surprise. I think I had one of the best mojitos here. It was fresh and light on the alcohol. I loved it. We had two types of appetizers one was this golden long sticks that looked like cheese sticks but they where made out of corn. I don't remember the name but they where good. They where a little on the sweet side . The other appetizer was fish croquettes. It was a salted type of fish. It was diferent and good. We enjoyed it. The restaurant sitting area was open and outside with plenty of fans. The place played really nice music. It had a really good atmosphere. Social distancing was respected here. The waitress and staff where great. Parking was a challenge. You find a place to park anywhere you can. read more

Authentic and delicious PuertoRican food. Mofongo with camarones. Rice and beans. Cold beer. Good selection of fresh juices. It's a local place. It's not fancy. Cats walk around the place. Families come here. It's not that the service is slow... it's that it takes time to make everything to order when you're using fresh ingredients. It's an open air restaurant.... Kinda like a big covered porch. The building has been conned together over the years. If you're expecting rain... sit near the middle. My advice: bring your family for lunch: order drinks as soon as they seat you. Order the Mofongo, rice and beans, get a bunch of appetizers, make that the WHOLE MEAL. Share it all. It's not a fancy place. It's real. If you're ok with spending time with your company/family/ whoever you're with... this is a good place. Go here. You'll be happy. Across from the beach. read more

Arroz con habichuelas, tostones, platanos, wings, yuca frita, carne frita, I tried it all and it was ALL delicious! Even my two year old loved everything....although she takes after her mama and I love all foods. The restaurant has a tropical themed feel and it's located right next to the water. Coming to Katrina's was a suggestion of my cousin to come here. Partially due to her being here before and partially because it's a 9 minute drive from the villa we are staying at in Dorado. Our server who's name I do not know, was very nice. She was knowledgeable and helpful for any questions our party (7 adults 1 child) had. I would come back here, the food was delicious. read more

Seafood spot somewhat close to our hotel while we are vacationing in PR, the empanada's are legit sampled their beef and shrimp both are better then anything I have tried in California. Took 2 other dishes togo let me break down of what each consisted and how well it faired. We were able to sample their Katrina amarillo arroz (basic translation Katrina's yellow rice) dish was simple but flavorful, bits of meat, I want to say beef, bits of seafood, squid, and tad bits of fish, beans all mixed in this heavy rice dish. Imma say it reminded me allot of paella but without the aftertaste of mussels you usually get from eating traditional paella, it was heavy and delightful, if your asian and your staple is rice in your household, this is a must try dish haha We were also able to sample the chillo relleno de langosta (translated to flavored lobster "hope that is right") this dish was very pretty in color and in texture, helpful portion of lobster on this dish, you can have it 3 ways aijillo (garlic) mojo (creole) or mantequilla (butter), we opted for the mojo (creole) flavor. This dish was rich in flavor I want to say every 3 bites had lobster in it, the dish was super bright red in color, diced tomatoes with I believe diced bell peppers were used, it was not spicy, but whatever they put in that sauce was heavy and pungent with flavor, used allot of rice to suck up all that juice from this dish, still allot of juice left! This is a definite must try if you are in Dorado, PR, i'm sure to sample more offerings that they have in the next few days When ordering I was also offered a mixed drink called the passion katrina- bright orange and bright red in color of this drink, cherry added for more color, super sweet and a refreshing drink, on an empty stomach it coats, and inebriates at the same time!!!! Delicious!!! Food ***** empanadas are on point, katrina amarillo arroz heavy and flavorful, chillo relleno de langosta was beautiful and saucy Price $$ 2 empanada and two dishes came out to under $60 not bad for all that flavor Service ***** very helpful staff, the kat at the bar very helpful and can tell when you need a drink haha Ambiance ***** large, airy, open, no windows, just decorative metal shaped to keep birds out, and to keep the dining area well ventillated First spot for dinner in Dorado, PR definite spot to try if in the area read more
