This place is terrible. There are never cars in the lot. Not sure how they stay in business. Fajita meat was gristly.

What an unexpected gem of a place! If you are doing the drive between Houston and Dallas and want…read moresomething better than fast food--look no further. They did appear to have a drive-through, but we opted to have a sitdown meal. One of the perks of that was getting chips with warm salsa. The salsa was tasty and the chips were nice and crunchy. I wasn't famished, so I decided to split the mariachi taco plate, which was five mini tacos on corn tortillas, including the addition of queso fresco and avocado. We tried the beef fajita only, but they will let you try two different meats if you want. These tacos were so good, they rival all the amazing beef fajita tacos I've ever had. They came with a side of charro beans that were not your average charro beans. They had so much flavor and a little something extra I couldn't pinpoint. The mango Agua Fresca was really good and refreshing. They said it was made with fresh mango. Also, the corn tortillas are homemade and you could really tell the difference. The green and orange salsa are both tasty, but I didn't even feel like the tacos needed an accompaniment. I did try the Caldo de res, and that was good as well, but it would be hard not to get these tacos again. Service was good and polite and just the right amount of attentive. They do have both indoor and outdoor seating, with string lights outside. If you enjoy Mexican food, you will not be disappointed here.

We've been coming here regularly for about a year, but this was by far our worst experience…read more I ordered the chicken flautas, and they were nothing more than plain chicken rolled in tortillas. There was no cheese, onion, or anything else inside, which is not what I've come to expect from flautas. The "puff taco" was equally disappointing and contained what looked like only about a tablespoon of queso. My husband ordered a combination plate, and it arrived missing one of the items listed on the menu. We had to ask for the missing item after the food was already served. The margaritas were okay, but they are overpriced for what you get. What really earned this visit a one-star rating was the overall service. The staff was not friendly, and the entire experience felt like the restaurant is cutting corners by reducing portion sizes and ingredients while charging the same prices. As regular customers, this visit was extremely disappointing and has us questioning whether we'll return.

Inside, you'll find a full bar, an impressive margarita menu (including margarita flights), and prices that are more than reasonable. The space is spotless, family-friendly, and staffed with some of the friendliest folks you'll meet. The menu is packed with all your favorite Mexican classics, prepared just right. This definitely won't be my last visit and if you're a road warrior passing through Fairfield, Rancho Viejo should be a must-stop on your route.
