We were driving back from cruise and stopped here for lunch. It was fantastic. Service top notch and food was excellent. Husband had jumbo margarita and taco with cheese enchiladas and ate all of it. I had the chicken fajita crema enchiladas with rice and they were some of the best I have had. We really enjoyed the salsa it was top 5 for sure. I'll start with, I am of Mexican heritage. That said, let me say that the food here is not Tex-Mex nor is it Mexican cuisine. Because rice, beans, salsa and tortillas are staples in Tex-Mex and Mexican food, I judge a restaurant by the quality of their rice, beans, salsa and tortillas. I'm certain a first day cook in a learning class could cook better than what is offered here at El Jimador in Fairfield. In regards to the service, our experience was such that the male servers only spoke to the men at our table and disregarded us completely when we politely spoke to them (the servers) in spanish. So, I give one star only so I can come here to comment that the food is not palet worthy, and the service is far from pleasing. read more

Absolutely fantastic Tex-Mex!! Love the warm salsa!! I had the chicken fajita burrito and the chili gravy is EXACTLY how it should be!! Rice and beans also perfect! I have been here twice and this will be the last time. I know one waiter that does her job well (Lily) but other than her all the others did not do their job. We got our food on time but the "shrimp taco's" which were tasteless. This place is definitely Tex mex or more American food. Not Mexican at all. I had ordered shrimp cocktail the first time and that was tasteless as well. My husband paid close to $200 and waited at least 20 minutes at a time to get his beer. Oh waiters did more talking at the bar then their job! I have worked in the food service before so yeah I would be pissed if it isn't right!! read more

we were returning home to DFW from a week long cruise, craving TexMex! since we stopped to fill up at the gas station, we thought we'd stop to eat here. Sadly, I soon wished we'd gone somewhere else. Being Mexican, I greeted the waiter in Spanish, yet he acted as if he didn't understand me, when I asked for my beverage I asked for iced tea in Spanish and he again acted as if he didn't understand me. The food, was not anywhere near what I expected or am used too, the queso, is thick and tasteless, like they just poured it out of the can, the appearance of our food plates was nice, however the food didn't taste that well. The fajitas were way over spiced and overcooked, almost like beef jerky, but with way too much spice, it made it salty, the same for the taco meat. The rice was great, the enchiladas appeared to have been put in an oven, as the top of our enchiladas were toasted, including the cheese on top. The guacamole was good, fresh. Overall, I was disappointed, since I do not live in the area, I won't be returning. my apologies for my honesty, I hope someone will find this useful. read more

We drove all the way from Alto!! My husband and I tried this gem about 3 months ago on our way to a ball game. Loved it!! So we had to come back!! 2 nd time and it didn't disappoint. It's really a shame. Even after making allowances for the "COVID Situation" I can't find a way to justify bad food. This is not even an "average Tex-Mex joint". We had Taco Loco, Fajita Quesadilla, and 3Chicken Enchiladas. It was uniformly without flavor. Even the corn chips had no flavor. We tried to make it better, by pouring their house salsa over it. That just made it taste like ketchup! A real disappointment- I have had better Mexican food in Swanson TV Dinners. $30 wasted. We won't need to go back there again. read more

Our friend was celebrating his birthday so the waiter comes up from behind him, places a sombrero on my friend's head and them slaps a load of whipping cream on his face. We stopped here for lunch on our way back from Galveston. We each had one of the combo plates which consisted of an enchilada and taco along with beans and rice. We were served chips and salsa as soon as we sat down. I have never had "warm" salsa before....it had actually been heated. The taste was not bad but I am used to having cool or room temperature salsa which I definitely prefer. The rice is very good and the chips & beans are ok. The restaurant uses a lot of American cheese on the tacos and other food items and it was overwhelming. I am not a fan of American cheese and would have preferred another type. On Sunday after Church as a family we often go to the El Jimador restaurant, the food is really good and the service is great! This past Sunday we were at the restaurant and they were very busy. I went to the restroom to wash my hands and my diamond Anniversary ring, from my deceased husband, fell off and down the drain it went. The Manager On Duty went right to work and retrieved my ring making for a really great lunch experience. The service was very nice! I ordered a burrito with grilled veggies and it was decent. It did not contain any sauce or rice & beans inside which was surprising & disappointing( I was told that they thought I wanted just grilled veggies wrapped in tortilla). They gave me rice and beans on the side after I asked them about it missing which was amazing and I ended up ordering an extra portion. I'm assuming it's because I added their diablo sauce in it ( I'm in love with it)! It was extremely spicy but so flavorful and they said they prepare the sauce right there. I picked this Mexican restaurant (that serves New Mexico Mexican food) using Yelp as a place to meet and eat. The service was very friendly and attentive. Each one of us ordered something different; and each of us thought the food was really good. We ended our meal with a full order of hot, puffed-up sopapillas. Order them without any sugar or anything else on them, then bite off a corner and squirt in some honey as the "steam" escapes. Yummmm! The prices were reasonable. Yesterday was my third time coming here. My boyfriend has family that live in Fairfield so we visit regularly. We went for lunch with a pretty big group and boy was it disappointing! I'm speaking for the food I had ONLY. First, the chips we got were super greasy, so we skipped those. We got some sort of sampler appetizer which had a bunch of random bland items on it. For our main course, three of us shared chicken fajitas for two. This was definitely enough for three people, but we barely ate any of it. As our food was coming out the fajita plate was super hot but there was ONE pepper slice on the whole tray - kind of disappointing for my sister in law who doesn't eat onions. The chicken itself wasn't seasoned well either. Didn't seem to have much seasoning at all on it. We got our first plate of sides (refried beans, rice, a TINY tiny bit of pico) and the second came out right after and we immediately noticed a long black hair across the rice and beans. We were a bit grossed out by this, so we jokingly put a small piece of chip on the plate to make sure we actually got a new plate. Told the waitress about the hair, she seemed annoyed that we said anything - not apologetic at all. Brought back our "replacement" and would you believe they brought the SAME PLATE out with the chip we put on there. We could not believe it! Since we were there with a table full of regulars we said nothing (trust me, I wanted to) and ate nothing. The three of us lost our appetite immediately. Did they even get us new food? Or did they just remove the hair and bring it back? Clearly they didn't get us new food. So gross. They came around and asked if we needed refills at one point then brought styrofoam cups with our drinks and poured them into our plastic cups. That was a new one for us. I understand wanting to save time but most of us didn't even get full drinks from these styrofoam cup refills. Very strange. Had it just been us there, we would of said something about what happened and not paid for it. But since we were with a large group we decided not to embarrass anyone and mark this as a loss. Will we be back the next time we're in town? Not a chance. I'd hate to see how dirty the kitchen is if they think THIS is acceptable behavior. Gross, gross, gross. read more

I guess to start this review I will say that if you go to a restaurant just for the decor then you will probably like this place but if you go for good service and good food then don't go here. My husband and I were on our way to Houston and about 6:30 we started looking for a place to eat dinner. After realizing that the restaurant selection on I-45 was extremely limited, we chose this place because it had the decent reviews and I liked the idea of a good margarita. We got seated right away and the ambience was really cool so initially I thought we had made a great choice. It was still happy hour so we ordered the house margaritas which were definitely happy hour drinks- more mix than tequila but it wasn't the worst I've ever had. Next we ordered the shrimp cocktail and it was just mediocre. I had to ask for more lime to make it at least a little more tasty than just plain tomato juice. We also split chicken fajitas which were just strips of unseasoned chicken and onion with a half bowl of pinto beans (that were tasty) and a 1/4 cup of rice with a tablespoon of pico. The portion sizes weren't terrible and it was probably all that i would have eaten anyways had the chicken not had a really strange smell. After a few bites I was concerned that it was bad but so far we haven't gotten sick....yet. My husband ordered a draft Dos Equis and after having completed what we were going to eat of our meal the waitress brought the beer ( like 20 minutes too late). She did comp it but wasn't friendly about it. This could be a super cool place if they would work on customer service and get a new chef.
