Stopped here for dinner after a tiring day at Shenandoah national park. I had pollo loco and my husband got fajitas. Both the dishes were delicious with lots of veggies and meat. I have to give four stars because of the customer service, the consistent quality, and that we come here every Tuesday for their crazy happy hour. 32 oz of Modelo or Dos Equis for $3?! Yes please. They also have seemingly unlimited chips and salsa. Most of the time they put fresh cilantro in the salsa that bumps it up a notch. Ive had the beef tacos (my favorite), the chicken and steak burritos, and a variety of quesadillas. Ill say that the food here is not insanely good. A bit on the bland side to me. Pros: Drinks specials most every day. Monday's the offer $1.99 margaritas! Their pork tamales are great. I like the sauce and the pork is moist (sometimes tamales at other places have dry pork). The service is friendly and fast. The atmosphere is good for a strip mall restaurant. Cons: It's in a strip mall in front of Lowe's and Walmart. It's not impressively fresh or inventive, pretty standard menu for a Mexican restaurant. Summary: I've been many times, and I'm sure I'll go back. Pretty meh food. I ordered the vegetable fajitas and the flavors just weren't there. The rice was just salty with a bit of color. The beans were probably just reheated from a can. My son ordered the macaroni in cheese and it looked like generic boxed macaroni and cheese. The salsa is ok at best and the customer service is almost non existent. I am SUCH a picky eater.... especially, when it comes to fajitas. Los Potrillos has THEE best fajitas in the area. If a 93 year old woman raised on "American" food can like this place, you know it's good! We've eaten here a few times and it's pretty consistently good. I've had the chicken fajitas, burritos, and enchiladas. I am not a fan of their rice-it seems a tad bland, but I like it's omnipresent buddy, the refried beans, which have a nice smokiness to their flavor. Other notes: The salsa has a nice light bite, and the corn chips are always warm and fresh. The portions are adequate--you'll rarely see anyone leave with a leftover carry-out. The waitstaff have always been friendly and helpful. The menu is extensive which for some is either an attraction or a turn-off. Sometimes the carnitas are a little fatty, other times, lean and moist--it's pretty hit or miss. Next time we're ordering margaritas for the 93 year old. Gonna party like it's 1923! read more

The food here is very good. I had the Pollo Loco and it was cooked exactly like I like. We are from Arkansas and the Mexican choices are very limited there. There are better Mexican restaurants in Northern Virginia, but having lived in Linden a few years ago, Los Potrillos is a much better than any choices we had in the Last Century. The food here is absolutely mouth-watering. My perpetual favorite is the arroz con pollo, which comprises small pieces of chicken breast, deliciously seared, and slightly crispy, resting on a bed of rice and doused in creamy cheese sauce. My mother is not a fan of Mexican food but I convinced her to order this (she was looking at french fries, the travesty) and she told me that it was the most delicious Mexican food she had ever eaten. She was so smitten that I even let her take my leftovers home with her. I also adore the chorizo here. It is available in several dishes, but I recommend the chorizo con huevos, i.e., chorizo and eggs. We ate here with the family tonight. The food was flavorful, the ambiance was right with the Norte music, murals, and the TV's... the service was very attentive without being overwhelming. Drink orders and apps came out fast. Our chip basket never hit bottom. My pickiest eater child cleaned his plate - you have nooooo idea how amazing that is. I didn't have any expectations going into dinner. The outside of the building lacks "curb-appeal". I was pleasantly surprised by the food and great service. The inside atmosphere is dated and needs better lighting. It gives off a slightly dirty feel, but isn't. Our server was very warm and welcoming. The manager visited every table checking on meals and thanking the guests for coming in. I had a 20oz raspberry margarita "jumbo" it was very good and only $7.95. Our 6 year old daughter had a virgin Pina colada and said it was "yummy". We started with the chips and salsa (spicy) served at every table and then ordered guacamole. The server said they make it in-house, but it didn't taste or look freshly made. It was good, but not what I expect from a Mexican restaurant. For dinner, I had chicken and steak fajitas. The protein was tender and had a nice flavor. The dishes lack creativity and presentation, but for the great prices I didn't expect it. Over all it was a good place for a fast, family-friendly meal.
