So, I've been to this place for just drinks once and dinner couple times. Reason I don't go more often? Cause I'm not always around this neighborhood. Tonight, had burrito fajita and strawberry margaritas and can I say, hello Mexico! Plus, we went at 8:30 they close at 9, they didn't shrug. 9:00 came, they told us to basically chill, enjoy our drinks. Service was spot on, so relaxing and we were treated very nice. First visit and was just ok with everything. Margaritas were very tasty but too much ice and not enough "drink". Received the customary chips/salsa when we sat down. Salsa was too watered down and not enough substance to it. Also needs a bit more spice. Main meal was fajitas. Tasted good and came out fast. Kinda made me feel like not made fresh? The food here is amazing! We've been coming here for years and it's always a favorite when we're "up north". The meat is perfectly seasoned and has an excellent flavor. Service is always top-notch and they have plenty of seating so there's never a wait. Los Portales is a solid option if you want decent Mexican in Hayward. My family and I visited this week for lunch. It also helped that it was open on Monday of Memorial Day weekend. After perusing the 10-page menu -- seriously, so many options -- I ended on the Burrito Real on the lunch menu. This is your standard burrito with rice and beans on the side. For $12.99, this was a decent amount of food. Not the most spectacular burrito, but definitely hit the spot. My kids were also able to get chicken nuggets from the kids menu -- a godsend. Our food came out quick. The prices were reasonable. The restaurant was clean. We were able to get a table right away. I would definitely come back. read more

The servers were extremely hospitable and accommodating. The decor and music is fitting for a Mexican restaurant. The chips were fresh and the salsa was good. The few times I've been there, the meals have been less than average. To me, the things haven't tasted fresh, but possibly frozen and heated up. The meat had a strange off putting taste and the tamale tasted awful. The food just didn't taste authentic at all. I hope the food quality improves, so we can try it again. read more

It was delicious and it came out very quickly like within two minutes the atmosphere was wonderful, perfect music playing at a nice volume and like a good temperature, it wasn't too cold or too warm. What a Wonderful Authentic Mexican Restaurant, right in the heart of Hayward Wisconsin. I have been to a lot of Mexican restaurants in my time, and this has the best food of all of them. We had to go back a second time before we left for home. The service was great! Mario was our first waiter. That's one of the reasons we went back besides the delicious food. The second time we met our waiter Equardo, who was nice as well. The ambiance was good as well. Looking forward to going back next year on vacation!!! read more

Positives first. Very nice decor inside, wooden round Timbers added a Northwoods feel, very appropriate. All the staff appeared to be Hispanic. Service was friendly and efficient. Now, the rest- the "lime" margarita was a kind of bright green color and tasted a bit like limeaid. The guacamole came out with no tomato, onion or cilantro mixed in. It was a bit bland like that. The chips were thin and good. The salsa that came out with the chips tasted more like tomato sauce, although it did have some white onion. Little to no cilantro in it. I asked for a spicier one, it DID have more heat, but resembled hot sauce from a jar. I had huevos Mexicanos. They were ok, but had a very dark color to them that I could not figure out the source of the color. Never had them dark before. But they were ok. The beans were bland, the cheese hard melted on them. It came with tortillas, I asked for corn tortillas which were good. It's a pretty big place with a bar towards the back. I'm so sad right now. I wrote a 5 star review for the first time I came here with a friend from out of town. I have begged my husband to go for months and tonight? We went. I was approximately 1/5 of the way through with my meal and my husband about 3/4. Suddenly, he exclaimed, "OMG!" He proceeded to remove something from his mouth, which I assumed was a chicken bone. He dropped the biggest lug nut I've ever seen on the table, full of food. He bit down and will be seeing a Dentist ASAP. I immediately called the Manager over and advised him as to what occurred. He merely grabbed it and said, "Oh". We were then, quite obviously, done with our meal. Approximately 2 minutes later, a Waiter came by with our bill and asked how everything was. i, admittedly, became emotional and asked him if he was serious. He stated he was told about the incident and claimed it was from their meat slicer. I simply have no words right now for how they responded. We left both of our meals and left. I cannot explain just how sad I am right now. No. I will not return nor will I ever recommend going to this establishment when they're ate so many other options in this area. read more

So good!!! We've been here before but tonight the food was delicious!!! Ordered street corn and guac as appetizers and a pitcher of margaritas. Mix up the corn to melt the cheese. Simply delicious. My husband got enchiladas suiza and I had two streak tacos with fajita veggies on flour tortillas. As we were eating, 6 other tables filled in, in the room where we sat. Overnight stay in Hayward and this place hit the spot! Had the 22 ounce Golden Margarita and a bowl from the specialty menu that was out of this world! Can't remember the name (that strong marg doing its thing) but it was flagged "new." Definitely get the chopped guacamole. A meal in itself! read more

It's a very nice looking facility. Hayward is lucky to have this restaurant. I am from Texas where every other restaurant is Mexican so I've had quite a few experiences with Mexican restaurants. Please go to this restaurant and ensure their success. I had the enchiladas Rojas three times and it's always been good. The quesadillas and the chimichanga is also very good.
