Traveling thru the area , we stopped in for some lunch, first time here . I enjoy trying new spots. The place is smaller witch means the service was fantastic, the chips were warmly and the home made salsa was very good. I had a chili relleno and steak taco and orange soda. My wife had chicken tacos, we both loved the flavor of our meal, the inside is decorated nicely and I would highly recommend this spot

The food here is fantastic with real authentic salsa and cuisine. For a small town in Oklahoma this place has figured out how to provide "real" good authentic Mexican food. It is definitely the best in town and one of the best in the state.

Good real Mexican! Not texmex. Good salsa and chips always fresh. Love the shrimp quesadillas!

I'm from New Mexico. I grew up on red and green chili. Been to many so called "Mexican" restaurants in Oklahoma. This is the best so far.

I always get the Jalisco special (bed of rice with chicken, steak, shrimp, onions, tomatoes, bell peppers and queso).

As a native of Central California I was so skeptical of any Mexican restaurant out of my state, and…read moreI was prepared to criticize, but I was so impressed with the quality and freshness of everything we ordered! I ordered Camerónes a la Diabla and the sauce had a darker color than expected, with an excellent spice level and an additional smokiness. I assume it was made in-house, but now it has me questioning every other time I've ordered this dish back home; have I ever tasted a house-made salsa in other restaurants before, or is this the first time?? My partner ordered chicken mole enchiladas and just like the diabla salsa, the mole was complex and balanced-- a good sign that extra time and effort went into them! There were other areas where Mexican restaurants sometimes cut corners, such as not using fresh lime in a margarita, but this place put in the effort to do it right! I hope this place continues to expand, because the unique branded and carved furniture must have cost a fortune, but it was a lovely way to distinguish this restaurant without looking kitschy and filling a building with junk. There seems to be a LOT of space as well-- probably a great place to have a party! I'm so glad this place is here in Cushing, and I'll definitely come back when I can.

By the way the dish comes with rice but there was no problem substituting refried beans.

But where this restaurant shines is the food. Some of the best Mexican food I've had. If I ever go back through Yale OK I will stop back and have a bite here at Chavas

The logos once proudly announced the owner's name and services. Essential then, now ancient. Sad. We imagined what the town was like, when oil was life in Oklahoma. The buildings then housed businesses that employed many, put food on the table and provided opportunities for several generations. Yale, a living ghost town now. The massive building has a Spanish architectural hint and colors that suggests, Mexican food can be found here. It is now Chava's. It covers almost a city block. This place probably rocked in the old days. The parking lot being full of oilfield worker's trucks at noon during the week and family cars on the weekend. Now well worn, the neglected exterior matches the town; weeds, the structures only landscaping. Today, the entire declining population of Yale could probably fit in the building. The parking lot was vacant when we arrived. The restaurant survives, thanks to dedicated locals and with the help of hungry sports fans headed to Stillwater for the Saturday game. Currently its ranking as the "Best Mexican Food in Yale" is unchallenged. The food is served on hot plates, properly prepared and good portions. The service is friendly and the restaurant is relatively clean, but noticeably warn. We ordered one of the combination plates, a relleno and a beef enchilada. On their own both were good; but the red sauce on the meal didn't work. Closer in taste to marinara spaghetti sauce than anything Mexican. The salsa served with the chips was similar in taste. Very mild, oregano flavor prominent. When we ordered, the young man offered three options: white queso, yellow queso or red sauce. We asked about the red sauce. He described it as "like chili. Nope, it is more like spaghetti sauce. The beans and rice were good. Underneath the sauce, was a nice big, fresh poblano, filled with cheese, battered and fried, accompanied with a mildly seasoned, beef filled enchilada. My recommendation, order queso on anything that comes with a sauce. It will be very mild, but better than the spaghetti sauce. If you are a person that finds a Tic Tac to be a little too spicy; you'll love the mild salsa.
