The restaurant is spacious has lots of seating and will put tables together to accommodate a larger group. Ground level so it is wheelchair accessible and there is street parking. The owner and staff are friendly & welcoming. You are given some chips and salsa when you sit down and the salsa is good. The coffee is strong and the food is amazing! I've only eaten food from here once (got it delivered at work) and I've only tried the huitlacoche quesadilla, but IT WAS SO GOOD. This is one of my go to Mexican restaurants. They're food I always fresh and authentic. The waitresses are very friendly and attentive so you will be well taken care of. You are given complimentary chips and their homemade salsa. I always get the steak huarache which is a large soft tortilla. A bit thicker than a usual corn tortilla. It sour cream, cheese, onion, and green salsa. What I live is that the huarache itself is not fried like many other places. If your vegetarian they offer veggies like mushrooms or squash blossoms which are always cooked until they are tender. You can choose to do half a huarache of one ingredient and the other half of another which is nice. You will get full. They are enormous and only $8.95. dad ordered a combo which is a dish with grilled steak, chicken, and shrimp along with green and red peppers. It came with a side of rice, beans, and a mini salad. I've been here twice with some classmates and my teacher after teaching ventures in the neighborhood. The first time was amazing. I raved about it. The food was amazing and cheap. The service wasn't perfect, but it was acceptable. I got a chicken quesadilla and the guacamole. The guacamole is super good, the chicken quesadilla was under $4 and huge. The second time I went with the same people and ordered the same food, but the service was astoundingly different. I never got chips for my guacamole, never once was offered a refill on my water. One of the people I was with didn't get his food, period. They didn't come to the table, not once to check up on us. I had to ask for chips to go, basically so my guac didn't go to waste. I've only ever ordered delivery from Los Corrales and usually have it about once a week. I love the steak items on the menu so much. The lomo en chile de arbol is perfectly spicy with a touch of sweetness from the onions. Their tacos are pretty large and I love them. Especially their chorizo. I don't know if they make it in house, but it's just great. Also, the huaraches are yummy as well. And the huge enchiladas... it's all just been really delicious. The portions are large, the food is good albeit slightly greasy, the prices are cheap. They have many items on their menu, and I enjoy most of the items that they serve. 'Corrales is exactly what it is. They do not reinvent the wheel by any means. You will not be surprised, there is not a dish that they are known for, and the food quality is not superior or anything like that. The surrounding neighborhood and the ambiance of the restaurant leave much to be desired; but it's located on Cermak, so it is by no means dangerous. This place is in my neighborhood and on my way to the train. That said, it is also the best, most consistent Mexican restaurant I've ever been to in my life. Whether you get their amazing/gigantic quesadillas, the tortas, the lengua, or whatever else I've tried, I've never been the least bit disappointed. On top of that, it is also a fantastic value. (As a side note, the waiter who invariably seems to be there whenever I happen to go in is quite purdy, but that's beside the point...sorta.) I come here every Sunday morning with my family, they all order their favorite plates or try something different because of the many options that the menu offers. I always order the "Carne a la tampiqueña" (if I remember the name correctly) ; I always walk out with a full stomach. The nopales -cactus sope which is a masa hand made tortilla (bit thicker than the usual tortilla) not fried with beans, cheese,cactus salad and lettuce is a must have. Chorizo with potato pieces sopes are the bomb!!! Gorditas are pita like not fried tortilla filled with your choice of meat or veggie. They are also great! Los Corrales is the closest restaurant to my house, occupying the corner space of the building housing Apollo's 2000. Their signs and menus tout the best quesadillas and huaraches outside Mexico City, and they are indeed excellent. The idea of paying a restaurant to make me a quesadilla used to baffle me until I tried them at this place -- the asada is my favorite, but I recommend being brave and trying the huitlacoche, which is a sort of corn fungus, as far as I can tell. The huaraches are basically a giant tortilla covered with the usual trappings for Mexican food, then smothered in salsa -- tasty, but better eaten on site than carried out. I also recommend the basic enchiladas verdes with chicken or the "Enchiladas Los Corrales" with asada. I also quite enjoy the horchata. The staff are friendly and have a good sense of humor, and it seems like everyone works all the time, seven days a week. I don't know how they can work so hard, but it does mean they get to know you after about two orders. I've never tried the more expensive entrees like steak. I couldn't give five stars because the chiles rellenos are undercooked for my taste. read more

My friend lives not less than 2 blocks from this restaurant and at her recommendation, I decided to give this place a shot because we were starving after Halloween Costume hunting. The interior is decently spacious and no different from any other Mexican restaurant in the area serving of grub to families and locals. While trying to figure out what to order, I noticed that all the menu prices listed behind the cash register had their prices all taped over. It was weird and a little janky but I just asked how much everything was. Craving variety, I ordered a lengua, pastor, and carne asada taco. Each was delicious, but my favorite was by far the lengua - it was loaded with tender strips of meat and each bite topped with flavorful, mild salsa verde was heavenly. Oh and each taco, no matter the meat, is $1.99! Definitely beats some other places in Pilsen that I have tried both price and taste-wise.
