I come here with my parents whenever I visit. I got the taco platter. The beans and rice are very good. Nothing to complain about there. The tacos seem to disappoint every time, though. The meat is poorly seasoned and pretty much have to drench it in sauce and salt to get any decent flavor. For a place that is a primarily a taco place, I'm going to have to take away major points for that. But like I said, the beans and rice are very good so they get two stars for that. The wait staff is pretty good, too. If you're strictly looking for tacos, I would have to say go somewhere else. I've been a very loyal customer since 05/29/19. I've enjoyed the experiences with bringing my friends, co-workers, and myself. LOVE THE FOOD, SHOUT OUT TO COMBO #5 w/ extra cheese. This place really knows how to make an African American happy. Unfortunately, last Tuesday (03/23/20), I went out with my friend through the drive thru. Now granted I understand times are hard with COVID-19, however it does not constitute to segregate loyal customers. The waitress who took my order was unfortunely extremely rude. My friend a millennial and I a Gen-Z clearly and politely stated our order, but was met with aggression and agony. When I asked for a 10/10 #5 combo with stating all the sides and entrée the waitress said "OH MY GOOOOD!!!" in a Starbucks white girl voice. This order should have been taken as a relieve since my order should be very basic and simple to process. After finally completely the order we were told to park by the over on the South side of the lot which is understandable since I didn't place my order ahead of time. Yet, my friend and I waited.. and waited.. and waited until 45 minutes after our order. Now, I'm a very understanding negro and would have let it slide, but from eyes I saw a red low-rider Chevy (photographic evidence attached) pick-up truck order on-site within 30 seconds and was given two bags of food after 10 minutes. Extremely aggravating, yet I still wouldn't have said anything since I am a Padawan on the force. YET, When I finally received my food, I was given a very hollow burrito and didn't receive my large cup of red sauce I paid for. I asked politely if I could have my red sauce and was only met with redirected responses as if she wanted to take my money and have me out the door. I'm not tryna have my lips parch when I split my pants when I squat too deep all because I didn't get my red sauce. To the waitress that served me last Tuesday I hope that if you had a bad day or if something is going on that's stressful in your life your getting the help you need. This goes for all the staff; please make sure you guys are taking care of yourselves because customers like me can see that. Please look forward and be the best version of yourself you can be. Overall, this was extremely disappointing, but I do give second chances and upcoming Tuesday I for sure do not want to be disappointed. read more

Mmmmhh. I love hitting up every single Comales there is. Just thinking about the delicious little tacos with a side of cebollitas y chiles makes my mouth water, like always. When I used to visit mi amigis (Spanish slang for friend) in Elgin, sometimes we'd stop in here and pick up some food. She'd always get tacos especiales con cebollitas y una de tripitas doradas. Authentic mexican food, with an open display kitchen. The waitresses all speak english and spanish. The Orchata is very good. There are pickled vegetables available on the table to garnish, any entree you choose. My wife's favorite thing is to order a side of avocadoes, and beans and rice. She's full and it cost like $4. They also have carnitas, menudo (on weekends). They are open for breakfast. With so many choices it's hard to go wrong here. The hardest part is deciphering the menu the first time you are there. I recommend the suadero tacos especial or the tacos al pastor. Just remember the tacos are small, if you have a big appetite consider 4-5. Also there are no tortilla chips so if you order guacomole it comes with tortillas and limes. read more

Great food. Great atmosphere. Great service. Best carnitas I've ever had, the family order is enough to feed a good 5 people or so. The only thing I would say is the chorizo could be a little more flavorful but it is not too greasy and that makes me happy. :) read more

I am very sad about my recent experience with Los Comales. Until now I have been pleased with their service and food. I called today around 4:19 pm. I was greeted in Spanish. I asked to place an order in English and was hung up on 5 times in a row! Finally when calling back I asked in Spanish to speak to a manager. Just so there's no confusion I speak enough Spanish but it is not my first language. This experience was terrible and makes me seriously contemplate going back! read more

Los Comales has great, savory food-- just ordered the #4 Burrito with Steak, and Chips y Guacamole with jalapeno! Meal comes with a drink- horchata! Very nice staff, hardworking cooks- you can see all the goings on through glass windows into the kitchen. Gringos, Gente, and Police all come here to eat- because the food is good! Awesome tacos. We stayed in the hotel down the street and came to eat here at 11pm (they're open super late). We ordered basic tacos but they were delicious! They also served (at the table), free picked cauliflower, carrots and peppers. It wasn't my thing but my BF tried it. The tacos were fulfilling and seasoned just right. I highly recommend it. Very good food and very good salsa. Had their burrito and it was excellent. Much better than their other locations.

Overall the food is good and the restaurant is clean. Their menu is extremely limited though (IMO). They don't have sopes, gorditas, enchiladas or flautas just a few examples. They have taco Tuesdays (.99 tacos). I've had pork and carnitas tacos here and they're what you would expect (nothing that stands out as being amazing). I've also had steak and chicken burritos. Steak was a little bland. Service at the table can be slow, especially on Taco Tuesdays. Once you place your order though, the food comes pretty quickly. Overall, an average joint. What I DO love about this place is the hot pickled carrots/peppers that are complimentary on all the tables. If anyone is wondering, no complimentary chips and salsa (not a bad thing just FYI). Came here on taco Tuesday (.99 tacos) and for 4 tacos she charged me $6 and for another 4 tacos with only a side of rice, she charged me $8 for the dinner meal.. which would have been much cheaper for .99 cent tacos PLUS a side of rice instead of the meal. We had two water to drink and a burrito. In the end a meal for two people that we thought would be cheap because of .99 tacos, and only a burrito and rice ended up costing $27. The worst experience I've ever had... waitress was rude, brought out food then never came back... no refills, we got our own to go containers... then when paying and telling the cashier about our service she had the nerve to look at me and laugh... then say "here's a bag before you say I didn't give you that either" I will never be going there or telling anyone about it let alone the horrible food. read more

Service wasn't good at all. Not one time did they go up to our table and ask if everything was okay or offered anything. Very disappointing.

We came to this restaurant after changing our mind from eating at the BBQ right across from Los Comales but nothing looked appetizing to us so we came here instead. And what a mistake we made. The salsa had no flavor, I order a chicken torta and the meat looked like carnitas instead of chicken, and the bread from the tortas ahogadas had the texture of long stored bread. I've been here a couple of times and the foods always consistently good. I'd recommend it as fast cheap Mexican food but not if you want great stuff for say like a fancy-ish date. Bomb.com. Drive past this place constantly, never thought to try,literally drive past to go get Mexican at another Elgin spot. This is so close to home, the horchata was on point, not just cream real deal rice water. The burrito didn't have rice in it that's a plus A++++. They didn't have asada which I'm used to and tried their bistec meat. Seasoned perfectly. Wife had the chicken tacos on taco Tuesday, so got four and devoured all four. I will be a regular here. This place is good on taco Tuesdays. If you want your Mexican fixings. But its packed with people on Tuesdays. I get it cuz you get dollar tacos instead of the regular $2-$3 ones. On Saturday past midnight I went with my friend and we both ordered the taco dinner. Hers came with a her on the beans. She instantly got disgusted so We were basically yelling to the waitress to come to our table. After ignoring us, I walked over to the cashier and told her we had a hair in my friends food. They looked at me and looked at her and before they said anything, I told her it was in my friends food. Her hair was up in a bun and there was no way my hair would fly into hers. So she took it to the cook and I could tell they were just gossiping cause he mad a face and so did she and he said "they're exaggerating" in Spanish. Mind you, I speak Spanish, but I didn't want to get rude. Then the waitress asked if we wanted anything else. I said no. When time came to pay they were going to charge me for that plate. I said "are you seriously going to charge me for a plate of hair in our food? The cashier looked at me and roller her eyes and she went to check with the waitress. Meanwhile another cashier was next to her laughing giggling at us. Then she came back and rolled her eyes and just charged me for one meal. Poor customer service. Never experienced this from this location til now. Lived in Elgin 4 years. Never again. Disgusting. They need to wear hairnets. read more

The inside of this establishment is pretty cool, with the Spanish tile roofing which wraps around the inside. But to be completely honest i've been their two times and the food is not to my taste. I have tried the tortas and tacos. The two things that i do liked was the rice water also named agua de orchata, and the other thing is how the cooks are visible from the dining room so you can see how they are preparing the food. Coming back to the tacos, the other problem i see is how spensive they are. To fill you up, you would need at least 5 or more. My over all conclusion is that the decor is nice but the food is too expensive for what you get. read more

Steak taco especial or carnita taco especial is perfection. Carnita here is like heaven. The best pork meat in town. Mouth watering deliciousness. Horchata is pretty amazing too. Guac is yummy but I order without the spicy peppers. read more
