    Chile Relleno

Recomended by our host, the restaurant has a good atmosphere and different choices in their menu. We had the filete de res and the chile relleno, both very flavorful. we completed our dinner with a delicious chocolate mousse for dessert.

Short: Relaxing atmosphere with super kind staff. Food was not as impressive but we left satisfied. Would definitely return. ------ Full: The high praise reviews caught our attention so we wandered over trying to find the hidden Los Campos! After multiple different answers from people in the plaza, we finally found it! Some items on the menu caught my eye. Arancini - a delicious dish from my family's motherland-- whoop, not available. How disappointing... but it must have been my lucky day since we fell in love with the Elote y Jalapeño Fritters. I regrettably ordered the Burrito de Res which was simply soggy and overwhelming with the mushrooms. The accompanying aioli was delicious! The pastel de carne was simply a hamburger. Good but the menu description leaves you craving something different. Ordered two glasses of Sangria and our complete bill came out to a $25 dinner for 2. Overall very happy with our experience even tho the entrees weren't exactly what we were expecting. Because of the friendly, quick service, I would look forward to coming back to try the tacos and some of the other plates.

Very clean, the food is excellent. It's definitely a hidden gem. A 2 min walk from the plaza.

The food here was both authentic and unique. From home made Clamato to a unique take on guacamole. Every dish we tried was outstanding. If you're in Guanajuato this place definitely needs to make your list.

Ultimately I was disappointed with Los Campos because the experience lagged far behind the enthusiastic reviews on Yelp and TripAdvisor. I think the three stars are deserved because service and atmosphere were good and while I did not like the food, I think it was prepared with some skill, quality ingredients and relative inventiveness. I have only gone once so this review may be premature, but since I may never have an opportunity to return to the restaurant I think it is fair to give my two cents. Food: Los Campos focuses on new interpretations of Mexican classics and offers them in small plates meant to be shared. The corn and jalapeño fritters and chile relleno, being the two items that stood out in others' reviews, were the only things I ordered besides agua de guayaba. I was expecting light, crispy fritters with intense flavors of sweet corn and slightly spicy chile. Instead I found them a little greasy, a little heavy and rather unspectacular in flavor despite the dabs of jalapeño pesto and squish of accompanying lime wedge. I was only able to finish one of the stack of three fritters served. The chile relleno, I'd already read about online, was a dried and rehydrated chile pasilla stuffed with bits of marinated pork and roasted corn and served on a bed of barley risotto in a corn husk. I found the dish dry and heavy in texture although I did enjoy the flavors-slightly spicy but with some raisin-like sweetness from the pasilla, and earthiness from the toasted corn, the tender barley, and savoriness from the chile-marinated pork. What was missing was something fresh and acidic; maybe pickled red onions or a small portion of a fresh salsa of fruit, chile, cilantro and lime. Instead the dark stuffed chile sat all alone on the plate. Atmosphere: at the early dinner hour of 6:00 PM the small dining room is softly lit, decor is rustic yet elegant. The tables are generously spaced apart enough that the three other tables of diners there did not intrude on my experience. Service: polite young woman server and older male server who answered my general questions and listened with concern when I told him that Los Campos' incorrect address on the web (Cerrada de Carrica 4A) led me astray all the way across town when in reality, the restaurant is located in Plaza Baratillo on Calle de la Alameda. Both servers casually but attentively checked in throughout my meal.

    Large table and art.

I'm so happy to see the old Los Campos alive and well at a new location. The cocktails are inventive, the new building is beautiful and the food is amazing. We've come here three days in a row.

Very much enjoyed the frituras de elote con jalapeño tapas. We ordered two other tapas, the cecina and guacamole borracho. The guacamole that came with the cecina was better than the guacamole borracho. The guacamole borracho wasn't well seasoned. It was really just chips and guacamole with very little tomatoes and chile. The cecina itself was dry and very thin and not one you could dip in the guacamole for the same reason. The presentation was great in all the tapas. All in all, the frituras saved the meal. Staff was attentive and nice. No locals or Mexicans from other areas at this restaurant.

The filet de res (beef tenderloin) is really really really salty. I think this restaurant is overrated.

We ran the gamut of bars in Zona Centro, and this spot made a fitting finale since it was the most high-end spot we visited. Only a half-block from the social epicenter of Jardin Allende, it provides a nice view of the top of the parroquia from their rooftop terrace where we were seated (Photo 3). The restaurant definitely had a more refined ambiance than the previous four places. We could tell it was a popular spot among wealthy American expats because the ambient voices sounded more like Chicago than Mexico. No Spanish, just English. The cocktail was a tangy treat though, a Tamarind Margarita (Photo 8), and the Jicama Taco was a satisfying veggie ending to our evening (Photo 10). However, the staff didn't make us feel that way since they gave us the table with inarguably the best view of the city during the most photogenic time of the day, magic hour at sunset (Photo 3). How did we get so lucky since we made our reservation just the day before? And what better way to start than with a pair of MX$340 Carajillos, the Mexican version of espresso martinis (Photo 7). The use of Licor 43 lent a welcome sweet spiciness to the deep espresso and fit the moment perfectly. We were happy to receive a complimentary serving of warm Focaccia topped with a wedge of liver pate, olive oil, and chives (Photo 10). It was a nice surprise quickly devoured. Our first shared dish was the MX$365 Ensalada Luna, a hearty and enticing mix of greens, stracciatella cheese, speck ham, fresh peaches and figs, and quinoa in a citrus and vanilla vinaigrette (Photo 4). Our entree was the MX$406 Tacos de Lechon Rostizado, a trio of roasted suckling pig tacos with crispy skin cracklings, red onion, and fresh green salsa (Photo 5). The pork was fork tender. Nestled in a flour tortilla, the soft pulled meat stood in nice contrast to the crack of the skin. We went for a second drink, but this time a mocktail, the MX$195 Chilate, a refreshing alcohol-free blend of cacao, rice, cinnamon, and raw cane sugar in a coconut shell (Photo 6). While awaiting our dessert order, we were surprised by a complimentary Happy Anniversary dessert, a bit of a head-scratcher. We didn't say we were celebrating anything, but hey, we didn't complain. The sparkler was already lit and the staff was harmonizing. It was a chocolate ganache cake with blueberries atop puffed rice (Photo 8). That didn't stop us from enjoying the crispy-sweet MX$289 Churros with cinnamon ice cream and champurrado chocolate sauce (Photo 9), while entranced by the nighttime view (Photo 2). TOURISTS BEWARE: WE WERE TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF. Wanted to share…read moremy family's experience when we were here on October 1, 2025. For context, we were a huge group (~20) with reservations that were set up by our hotel, and we were broken up into 3 different tables. Our reservation was done roughly 24 hours in advance, so I don't fault them for this in any way. Another neutral thing is that there is only 1 check per table. Not anything bad, but for large groups, please take note. Speaking solely on behalf of the table that I was seated at, these were the negatives of our experience: - We were charged for bottled water without being made aware that the charge applied; additionally, we were charged for more bottles than were on our table. - We were told a price on a cocktail, but it appeared differently (more expensive) on our bill. - We ordered cocktails with both higher-end and house liquor, but we were charged the higher-end price for all of them. - We were charged for an extra cocktail. - There was a hair embedded in one of the plate's guacamole--clearly mixed in--and when we respectfully raised the concern to our waiter, the manager came out and condescendingly explained it was "due to wind." I wanted to go through the bill on my own, but (1) the person taking the payment waited next to me with the card reader, and (2) our large group had to get going. I understand my mistake in not going through the bill before I paid, but that many errors on our bill just feels deliberate to prey on tourists, especially considering we tipped on this inflated amount for a meal that was already pricey to begin with. There are some positives to our experience: the views were beautiful, they offered blankets and heaters to combat the cold wind, and I'm grateful that the staff spoke English (most of the folks in our group at the other tables were older and wouldn't be able to use a translation app) and answered our many questions; however, I will never return to this restaurant again because of the way we were clearly taken advantage of. For any tourists, please learn from my mistake and be sure to go through your bill with a VERY fine comb.
