Everything here is FRESHLY MADE (they buy everything the DAY of). La Vela didn't disappoint. Reasonably priced, great services, and lively atmosphere (their music taste is stupendous). Bring plenty of cash because you will want to check out their whole menus. But seriously, bring cash since it's cash only. I love having a late lunch here when I am in Guanajuato. it's a very casual spot in the center of town at the base of the funicular that goes up to the Pipila. It usually opens mid-afternoon, whenever the young staff rolls out of bed. The food, maybe most notably the fish tostadas and ceviches are amazing, and very reasonably-priced. This is really good seafood at a great price, and there's definitely some legit sophistication in the preparations. I've been here at least five or six times, and I will keep coming back. I really LOVED the food at this place. I came one time and fell inlove with the pulpo and camaron empanadas. As i awaited a year, i had a horrible experience here. At first it took 10 minutes to ask what we want to drink. And when she did i told her we were ready to order and she replied with " oh youre going to eat?" Like if its a frickin restraunt. I told her yes im ready. And she said okay ill just bring you a beer. Got it like 15 minutes later. At this point you are probably asking why havent u left WELL when i tell you i really wanted the food, I REALLY WANTED THE FOOD. As 30 minutes pass by i was entertained with the music and noticed i havent got my order taken. The server kept going back and forth. Didnt bother. We realized she had clocked out so i went to the girl and told her we had been waiting for 30 minutes and never got our order taken . She said " so do you want to leave?" Like if i wanted to leave i would have. I replied with " no i want my order taken ". But because i LOVE the food here i waited. 20 minutes passed by and FINALLY got my food. Food =excellent, service = horrible: update server came back and said they didnt have empanadas. They gave me one shrimp. So now im starting to wonder if they just lied. The food was AH-MAZING!! Very fresh and fierce flavors. The habanero sauce lit my tongue on fire, but was delicious. I would recommend the pozole de camarón that is served on the weekends. Cevicheeee!!!! This place is Sooo good! Too good! My boyfriend and I ate there 5 days in a weeks time. The food is fresh and perfectly simple. Our favorites were the breaded shrimp tacos in blue corn tortillas and of course the ceviche. It's a small place so it can get crowded but it's worth the wait if need be. Place is directly behind El Teatro Juarez. Super small & cute. Food was excellent & fresh. Their blue corn tortillas were excellent. Service was great. They like to add the % service fee to the bill. They do inform you & will add at the end if you are ok with it. read more
