Definitely a must stop; I been trying in different places restaurants and hotels and it is amazing how something can be so simple and amazing here... If you come to Gto. is a must stop and than you can try anywhere else but this one are above and beyond.

These enchiladas are delicious! Well served . The plate comes with a side of grilled chicken, but I didn't get it. You won't regret it, and you're welcome

Most definitely the best enchiladas mineras we've had in GTO. The owners are the sweetest as well!

Looked for places to eat on Yelp, Doña Lupe's was rated pretty high. Decided to try it out. As previous reviewer said you need to set your "expectations" before going. This is a small hole in the wall place. You'll hike uphill to get there and when you arrive you'll see a small restaurant on the corner and you'll think "is this it?" You'll walk in past people making food using their hands. You walk into a small room maybe 12 by 12 , somewhat stuffy, there's a TV on the wall in the corner with Spanish novellas playing." There is no menu, your choices are enchiladas mineras with or without onions. Food was good, 6 of us of ate for around $5 US each. When you go to Doña Lupe's you immerse yourself in local Guanajuato, this is a place where locals would eat.

On the left is the dish cooked in regular oil and on the right is Doña Lupes regular dishes made with pork lard

My boyfriend and I are visiting Guanajuato and kept hearing about this place and their enchiladas. My boyfriend had the regular dishes (just delicious!!) and bam hooked ,my boyfriend loves this place ! Yes! Also she makes her dishes usually fried in pork lard and unfortunately I can't eat pork products for health reasons . Tell me why Doña Lupe made you feel comfortable in going out of her way to cook them in regular corn oil ! This business , the people that work there with her and just her on her own are just awesome . WILL COME BACK! Thank you for going out of your way for me and spectacular dishes !

Spicy pickled chillies and carrots on hand! Fuzzy grape juice too at 15.

We three British middle aged guys just had a nice cheap simple meal here at around 9pm on the first Monday of May. It was empty when we arrived (although completely full of locals the week before) but we were joined by an Anglo British couple who had found it on Yelp they said. The food had two options 85 for the chicken based meal and 70 for the non chicken meal. Both had cheese on and were very tasty. The other couple were pleased too. There was no alcohol served but they said that one could bring one's own. It was up an alleyway which technically one should not go up after dark. There was an armed security guard/policeman at the steps junction nearby and signs saying beware to malevolent people as being watched. We felt safe. Whilst there a couple of loud marauding mariachi bands with following groups in tow passed by. All very atmospheric! We left happy and feeling safe to make the short way back to our accommodation nearby in the Main Street, Casa Alonsa 53. This is not on TA as it is so remote. I have only just installed the app and was surprised to see it came up first in the list when I opened it! It is on the path and steps down from the Pipila viewpoint so I suppose tourists spot it easily (as we had done last week!).

    Outside looks ok. Right.

Expectations are important. If u understand what u are getting into maybe it's more of 2.5. Keep in mind this is a "hole in the wall" and I do mean Low standards hole in the wall place for Mexico. Bottom on a house up the hill from the center of town. When u walk in lady mixing food with her hands. No gloves. Small little place with no ventalation and super cramped. Service if u are a gringo isn't good. No gringos Flies all over the place landing on your neck and table. Enchilada pretty good chicken Also good. Soda in bottle and price was great. 15$ including tip for me and the wife. But I won't come back with the wife. She almost gagged like 4 times waiting to order and only picked at the food for fear of getting sick. Can't imagine what the bano looked like. Felt like I needed a shower after dinner! Just being real here as the reviews were excellent for this place.

This restaurant is basically the kitchen and living room of a small house with the family making the enchiladas in the kitchen right as you walk in. The aroma is intoxicating, and while I hadn't had enchiladas mineras before, these were outstanding. The family members waiting on the five or six tables in the place are very friendly, and the time it took from sitting down to having my food was just under five minutes. You get your food on a styrofoam plate with a plastic fork, so don't expect anything fancy, but this is about as legit as it gets. Due to the place being so tiny, it gets packed regularly, and it was full as I was leaving, though when I arrived at 7:30pm-ish on a Friday night, I was lucky enough to get a free table.

Dona Lupe should be world famous for her enchiladas mineras. Ask around and you will get to her hole in the wall home cooked enchiladas. The have only two items on the menu: red enchiladas with cheese, potatoes and carrots or red enchiladas with cheese, potatoes, carrots and chicken. The chicken is incredible. Try to find it up of the main street in downtown close to the Callejón de el Bezo.

We stumbled across this little restaurant that is located on the corner of Callejon del Venado by accident. Actually I should say we could all smell something delicious cooking. We were on a callejoneada passing by when all of the sudden we could all smell the same thing: enchiladas Mineras. I am in no way being dramatic, that is exactly what happened! You can smell this dish cooking down the block. After the callejoneada ended we headed back to Enchiladas Doña Lupe. The restaurant is small, and enchiladas mineras are the only thing on the menu but they are so delicious! The first part of the restaurant has a table for six and it is also where the enchiladas are cooked. There are 3 more tables on the left, like I said small. Oh and did I mention cheap! The enchiladas were only something like 35 pesos. So happy we came across this little gem!

Everyone says you must try the regional specialty, enchiladas mineras. Well, I never ignore emphatic food tips. My Airbnb host brought me here and I have to say, these enchiladas were homey and savory and utterly satisfying. They are dipped in a guajillo chile sauce then fried in oil and served with sautéed potato and carrot cubes, along with roast chicken. The only condiment needed, and indeed the only one provided, was jalapeños en escabeche. A hearty (for a small woman anyway) serving plus a cold glass bottle of soda set me back $5. Delicious deal and a wonderful intro to Guanajuato's specialty.

Unfortunately, for us anyway, they didn't live up to their promise. It's a fairly long taxi ride to get to. People talk about the "amazing views," but only a couple of tables can see them, and they are not at all amazing. Just a jumble of houses and utility wires with some hills in the background. The restaurant itself is very charming and warm, and the staff is polished and welcoming. Things started off well with the nopale appetizer, a very delicate but umami-infused dish. But then the main courses were very disappointing. I had the sous vide beef short ribs with a tlilchili sauce on a bed of a few black beans and red onions. Sounds great, doesn't it? I was expecting "fall-off-the-bone" short ribs. Instead I got a dried-out chunk of meat that I could barely cut with a knife. Terrible. I could only eat part of it. My partner ordered a chicken dish that was bland and also a bit dry. We both ended up leaving half of our entrees - which we never do. We were still so hungry, we had to get tacos from a stand by our hotel afterwards. Not worth the effort or the price in my opinion - such a let down.

We were fortunate enough to get a window table with a perfect view of the iconic Teatro Juárez. What a treat! The moment I tasted their tortilla soup, I was transported back in time.
