I'm writing this review at 1:43 AM, because I drank two Red Bulls at a Red Bull event this afternoon/ night, in addition to the energy drink I slammed this morning prior to Yelp-Fu: Boxing. And despite being up since 9 AM (which is early for me on a weekend, k?), I actually want to workout right now at my new gym: Los Campeones. *Note: I don't really drink energy drinks, and I'm pretty sure -- since I'm so hype on caffeine -- my typing could annihilate the world record. I'm. So. Not. Sleepy. #editingthisreviewisabitdifficult Before I get into Los Campeones, for reference, below are the different types of gyms I've worked out at in my lifetime: A) THE NO-NONESE GYM: With tons of free weights and machines, people visit there to get their swole-on and give hella stink-eye to peeps that mess around doin' nothin'. (Make sure your playlist is on point, playa! Ain't no time for that!) It's usually owned by someone older, yet hella strong. B) CORPORATE GYM: Both Lifetime Fitness and LA Fitness fall under this umbrella. Sure, the degrees of fancy vary, but these types of gyms usually offer classes of some sort. Overall, their membership prices are significantly more expensive. C) CROSSFIT GYM: Can be pretentious and cultish. Classes occur only at certain times and the monthly price may cause you to reconsider splurging while buying groceries. (But price may not matter, since you'll likely be eating paleo anyway.) Benefits: Short time and high intensity workouts do increase overall fitness -- and your booty will be more "apple-bottom" like; however, chances for injury may increase. D) YOGA CHAIN: I was the sweaty guy doing the "tree pose" in the back and falling everywhere. (BTW, there's usually that one person who farts and ruins it for errone.) Los Campeones falls under Category A, and it's the type of gym I prefer. At first glance, it might resemble a Snap Fitness. You know, a place that has plenty of treadmills, climbers, barbells, benches, racks, and free weights aka the bare necessities. But what separates this place from others is their basement. It's covered in fake grass and ideal for specialized high-interval workouts, swinging kettle bells, and other activities that usually require more room. I love it. People go there to workout. Ish is serious, ya'll. Aside from the gym itself, I love their low prices: -$45/ month (automatically deducts from your account). -$55/ month (opting not to use auto-pay). - $65/ month (for couples). Some other costs exist, such as the yearly maintenance fee (which is over $50, I think). Regarding the parking situation, it's kind of difficult. This Los Campeones location resides on one-ways, and their tiny lot fills up during peak hours. I suggest parking on Blaisdell Avenue or 28th on the left (north) side. read more

This is, hands down, one of the best gyms I've ever visited. I had the pleasure of working out here, while in town visiting a friend. From the moment I called to inquire about prices, the staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The atmosphere does not disappoint either. The other patrons are easy-going and know how to properly care for the equipment. You don't have to worry about machine hogs or un-racked weights here. Not to mention, they're one of the few gyms that play metal / rock in the facility. It's way more my speed than the typical pop and dance that fills many other rooms. If I ever find myself back in the area, I will gladly pay the very reasonable price to stop by again. read more

The best gym around. Great community feel, great price and simply a great place to workout ‍

I've been seeing mike here for personal training, and it is awesome. Great environment to getting yourself stronger! The owner Ben is awesome, the staff is awesome, and in general everyone that comes to this gym is cool. I've never seen people support each other and make friends so easy than at this gym. Other gyms are soooo stuck up and judgmental. This one is amazing read more

Didnt join but impressed by everything about them Still have my previous and inconvenient Lifetime Membership

Came to the gym with a friend got in for free because it was our first time, amazing service from the front desk love the vibe of the gym will definitely be coming back in the future. love the old-school bodybuilding feel, had to grab a shirt on the way out which was even supposed to be 15 bucks but still got a discount on it, awsome separate room for powerlifting I can just go on and on about my experience. read more

Awesome gym! The customer service is top notch, they do an excellent job taking care of their equipment. Different types of music in each room. The downstairs is great if you need extra space. Good drink selection. I like how they separated the bathroom from the locker room area. read more

I was matched up w/ a fitness trainer through the gym. I initially purchased one package of personal fitness training sessions through the trainer & then a couple more of them later in time. Pros - Nice, clean gym w/o all the bells & whistles. Personal trainer is a nice guy, good workout, & provided helpful info. During the span of time we've worked together my schedule has been all over the place during the span of time we've worked together on / off again. He was flexible about scheduling which I appreciated. Cons - During our one on one sessions, my trainer spent a lot of time on his phone responding to personal texts which I found really unprofessional. Toward the latter part of working together, it's become my responsibility to re-contact him to remind him to follow up w/ me about his availability. From a service / customer service industry perspective this doesn't communicate to your clientele that they are a priority nor that you appreciate their business. I've reached out twice to the trainer attempting to schedule these & received no response back. I'm out 2 unredeemed fitness sessions & I won't be re-contacting the trainer nor returning to this gym. read more

This is a place for hard nosed fitness enthusiasts to get their workout in and get the Fudge outta there. Upstairs will give you what most people are looking for. There is the bank of cardio equipment, weight machines and free weights. The place that really sells it for me is the basement. It has a carpet of turf like the Brady Bunch yard and this is where you will find the slightly off kilter stuff. Looking for a giant tire and a place you can flip it indoors in the Minnesota winter? this is the place for you. Looking for a place to try out your agility workout in grass like circumstances? this is your spot. Want to take a bare bones trainer led full body workout? You will find that here. It's not fancy but it's almost perfect. Only two things prevent the 5th star. 1. The music, if I can hear it over my music that is in my ears it's too much. The parking, it's hard to come by. read more

I love this gym but cannot stand the death metal blaring in the background. Please please turn it down and I'll update my review. Edit: they've been better about music. I think only a couple employees have poor taste in music. read more

Both los campeones gyms are great. Great atmosphere. But needs more equipment and space. With that it also needs more parking as well. Often I have to park my car a block away in peak hours. Overall great place for a prompt workout. read more

Los Campeones gym is the best gym in Minnesota! Both of them! Why do you think that it was featured in BodyBuilding.com's gym of the month website? It's not because it sucks! It's truly the only one of it's kind. There are very few gyms like Los. The very moment I walked into the door I was greeted my a rather friendly gentleman named Seth. He gave me a tour of this unparalleled establishment. I was amazed by the quality of equipment, (Rogue, HammerStrength, other fine manufacturers), I also was in awe of the attention to detail with the recent expansion. There is truly something for everyone. Not only is there something for everyone here, (Olympic lifting, powerlifting, bodybuilding and if you absolutely have to, Crossfit), the fellow patrons are very helpful. If you have questions about how do do a certain lift there is a community of enthusiasts as well as trainers that are well versed and friendly, not to mention affordable! Additionally, the trainers at the big box gyms just don't compare to the trainers at Los. The trainers of Los have real experience and aspire to be the best that they can be (meaning you see the results/gains) and they are extremely passionate about what they do. They're not just there to collect a paycheck, something I felt was the experienced at the more well known corporate environments. The variety of lifters that frequent Los is vast; therefore a need for a wide range of equipment. Benjamin L. totally has that covered. How many gyms have jerk blocks? Not that many. That is just one example of many other qualities that this gym has. Overall, Los is a great gym that feels more like a community than a gym. In the world of cookie cutter gyms in MN Los Campeones (Franklin and Blaisdell) is truly a diamond in the rough. read more

The gym is great; however, DO NOT hire Jordan Theurer as your trainer. I hired him. He frequently cancels his appointments at the last minute, doesn't pay much attention to you during sessions (constantly texting, constantly talking to others in the gym, doesn't track progress, doesn't weigh you, doesn't track BMI, etc.). He also won't provide a refund if you're unhappy. There are many other great trainers here - just don't go with Jordan and you'll be fine. read more

Finally a gym that has the right equipment and is affordable! Los Campeones knows what they are doing, and the atmosphere is amazing. Walk in and get work done! read more

Great gym but please update your cancellation policy. If someone has paid for over a year and did not come in "once" maybe you can break your set in stone cancellation policy and cancel my membership over the phone. read more

Love working out at Los Campeones. No nonsense gym. New equipment. Clientele is there to WORKOUT, not take up space. Have never had to wait for a machine or equipment. The Astroturff basement is great as well. read more

Poor customer service. Submitted a request to be paired with a personal trainer, but no one ever contacted me. I mentioned it to someone in staff and he apologized and told me someone would be in contact soon. Still haven't heard anything, and this was a week and a half ago. Decided to cancel my membership, but already got called for next month so I called to ask if getting a refund would be possible. The woman on the phone bluntly said No we don't do that, and hung up on me after I said "oh okay." I understand the 10-day cancellation policy, but if someone cancels for whatever reason and isn't going to use the last month of the membership and they've already been charged, it's just good customer service to have a refund policy. Which Los Campeones does not have or state anywhere on their website. If you're going to be a stickler about refunds, either advertise yourself as such or be a bit more flexible with customers. I will never be renewing my membership after it expires. read more

A great, reasonably-priced gym! As an Olympic weightlifter, I appreciate that they've set up a separate space for the lifts. However, the icing on the cake would be to have a good-quality Olympic bar as opposed to just Rogue hybrid bars. read more
