Well-let's start with how I found 57FIT in the first place. I had been working out at various…read moreplaces and with different trainers previously, some better than others, but nothing really kept me going back. We (well generally speaking ) know how hard it can be to find the right fit for our workout needs. My first 6 months with Marcus was amazing! I lost about 60 pounds give or take. I wanted to learn how to lift heavy and essentially make that part of my everyday routine. Done. He is incredibly knowledgeable, has a lot of experience as well as degrees in the field. Fast forward to the future after life happens, weight gain, etc. He is still there. Encouraging and non judgmental. He knows life is not linear. Also! If you choose to workout at the gym during times when everyone else is there, the community is absolutely amazing! Marcus has built up a clientele that sticks with him. If the gym setting isn't your jam he also offers online training, which I actually switched to since I moved. There are many different programs to pick from but I personally think the 57fit anywhere program is a great place to start so you don't get overwhelmed!

Marcus does a great job and teaching core movements and building on them so you don't feel overwhelmed. Pretty soon your body remembers and you will feel great! Try him out, you won't be disappointed.

And despite being up since 9 AM (which is early for me on a weekend, k?), I actually want to workout right now at my new gym: Los Campeones. *Note: I don't really drink energy drinks, and I'm pretty sure -- since I'm so hype on caffeine -- my typing could annihilate the world record. I'm. So. Not. Sleepy. #editingthisreviewisabitdifficult Before I get into Los Campeones, for reference, below are the different types of gyms I've worked out at in my lifetime: A) THE NO-NONESE GYM: With tons of free weights and machines, people visit there to get their swole-on and give hella stink-eye to peeps that mess around doin' nothin'. (Make sure your playlist is on point, playa! Ain't no time for that!) It's usually owned by someone older, yet hella strong. B) CORPORATE GYM: Both Lifetime Fitness and LA Fitness fall under this umbrella. Sure, the degrees of fancy vary, but these types of gyms usually offer classes of some sort. Overall, their membership prices are significantly more expensive. C) CROSSFIT GYM: Can be pretentious and cultish. Classes occur only at certain times and the monthly price may cause you to reconsider splurging while buying groceries. (But price may not matter, since you'll likely be eating paleo anyway.) Benefits: Short time and high intensity workouts do increase overall fitness -- and your booty will be more "apple-bottom" like; however, chances for injury may increase. D) YOGA CHAIN: I was the sweaty guy doing the "tree pose" in the back and falling everywhere. (BTW, there's usually that one person who farts and ruins it for errone.) Los Campeones falls under Category A, and it's the type of gym I prefer. At first glance, it might resemble a Snap Fitness. You know, a place that has plenty of treadmills, climbers, barbells, benches, racks, and free weights aka the bare necessities. But what separates this place from others is their basement. It's covered in fake grass and ideal for specialized high-interval workouts, swinging kettle bells, and other activities that usually require more room. I love it. People go there to workout. Ish is serious, ya'll. Aside from the gym itself, I love their low prices: -$45/ month (automatically deducts from your account). -$55/ month (opting not to use auto-pay). - $65/ month (for couples). Some other costs exist, such as the yearly maintenance fee (which is over $50, I think). Regarding the parking situation, it's kind of difficult. This Los Campeones location resides on one-ways, and their tiny lot fills up during peak hours. I suggest parking on Blaisdell Avenue or 28th on the left (north) side.

I was never much of a gym-goer before the pandemic, and during I got super into at-home strength…read moretraining. Specialized classes seemed fun, but I was always nervous I'd be the slowest and weakest, and not be able to catch up. I joined orangetheory about a year ago, and I've absolutely loved going 4 times a month! It allows you to customize your workout to your abilities and pace, and I never feel I'm behind or being judged. In fact - Ive seen a HUGE improvement on my fitness overall! I can run longer, lift heavier and be more confident in the gym. The uptown location is my favorite, with friendly desk staff + fun and challenging coaches. Neesh is my favorite coach, but all coaches are welcoming and helpful. If you're a little more shy like me, you also don't need to have an OTF tracker (showing your progress on a big screen) - I just use my Fitbit and I've never been shamed or pressured into buying a tracker! Overall, recommend orangetheory - especially at the Uptown location!

I have been a member at OTF since July and have attended this studio a few times. It is closer to…read moreme but the studio is incredibly dated. They don't have any monitors on the tread or the rowers. I had been under the impression that the treads should all be updated in all studios. It makes it harder to pay attention to where you are at since you need to look up at the top screens to see your zone, which in some instances is right ontop of you. The staff is really hit or miss. There are some that are great, and some that seem passive. They have parking in the back, which is nice, but it does fill up. The lot is partially shared with Red Cow.
