And despite being up since 9 AM (which is early for me on a weekend, k?), I actually want to workout right now at my new gym: Los Campeones. *Note: I don't really drink energy drinks, and I'm pretty sure -- since I'm so hype on caffeine -- my typing could annihilate the world record. I'm. So. Not. Sleepy. #editingthisreviewisabitdifficult Before I get into Los Campeones, for reference, below are the different types of gyms I've worked out at in my lifetime: A) THE NO-NONESE GYM: With tons of free weights and machines, people visit there to get their swole-on and give hella stink-eye to peeps that mess around doin' nothin'. (Make sure your playlist is on point, playa! Ain't no time for that!) It's usually owned by someone older, yet hella strong. B) CORPORATE GYM: Both Lifetime Fitness and LA Fitness fall under this umbrella. Sure, the degrees of fancy vary, but these types of gyms usually offer classes of some sort. Overall, their membership prices are significantly more expensive. C) CROSSFIT GYM: Can be pretentious and cultish. Classes occur only at certain times and the monthly price may cause you to reconsider splurging while buying groceries. (But price may not matter, since you'll likely be eating paleo anyway.) Benefits: Short time and high intensity workouts do increase overall fitness -- and your booty will be more "apple-bottom" like; however, chances for injury may increase. D) YOGA CHAIN: I was the sweaty guy doing the "tree pose" in the back and falling everywhere. (BTW, there's usually that one person who farts and ruins it for errone.) Los Campeones falls under Category A, and it's the type of gym I prefer. At first glance, it might resemble a Snap Fitness. You know, a place that has plenty of treadmills, climbers, barbells, benches, racks, and free weights aka the bare necessities. But what separates this place from others is their basement. It's covered in fake grass and ideal for specialized high-interval workouts, swinging kettle bells, and other activities that usually require more room. I love it. People go there to workout. Ish is serious, ya'll. Aside from the gym itself, I love their low prices: -$45/ month (automatically deducts from your account). -$55/ month (opting not to use auto-pay). - $65/ month (for couples). Some other costs exist, such as the yearly maintenance fee (which is over $50, I think). Regarding the parking situation, it's kind of difficult. This Los Campeones location resides on one-ways, and their tiny lot fills up during peak hours. I suggest parking on Blaisdell Avenue or 28th on the left (north) side.

I lucked out. I was in town to grab a 30-day fitness pass at Peer Pressure Fitness (PPF) and went…read morefor it. I activated it towards the end of November, hours after landing in the Twin Cities. A few days later, I headed over to PPF after work. Traffic was a bit nuts during rush hour, but I had no problem finding the place. I parked roughly a block away along W. Lake Street. I paid for parking with a credit card and walked over. I got the grand tour from Zach, the CEO of PPF. Another person joined us on the tour, who was nice. Zach wanted a place to focus on mental and physical fitness. The place embraces community and inclusion, and staff want to have meaningful relationships with customers. I felt so safe here. It's such a spacious, relaxed, and clean place to work out. The main floor is where classes are held, from yoga to booty bootcamp. You can also get a deep-tissue massage on this floor, too. Of course, the main floor is where you check in through a tablet. You find your name, and then enter your username and password. You are then free to go wherever you'd like to work out. The basement is where you want to do strength training. There are weights galore. I was thoroughly impressed. I spent my first workout session on the top floor. It's all about cardio on this floor, with a nice tribute to George Floyd on one of the walls. There are treadmills, spin cycles, weights, lat presses, and more. What caught my attention when I signed up for this experience were the rowers. I loved working out on one of them. It was my first time working out on a rower in my life and it was great. They are water rowers, which was so cool. It felt soothing and relaxing. Rowing works for me. I like the rhythm that you get into and you do get a decent workout. Although I was a bit sore the following day, I felt so great after my workout. I hope to squeeze in another few visits when I return for the holidays on a real vacation. The merchandise is cool. Sadly, you can't buy anything at PPF. Rather, you need to order whatever you'd like online, from exercise shorts to workout tops. It was nice to see and feel the items. I asked whether I could get items shipped to my hotel. Yes, you can for those who are not local and who don't want to think about how much shipping would be. The washroom is on the top floor. It was so clean and inviting. It even had new toothbrushes if you need to brush your pearly whites after a workout. Wow! I had a terrific experience. Thanks to PPF for being some welcoming and nice. Thanks to Kara, Community Manager at Yelp Twin Cities, for making my first fitness experience so much fun. (443)

There aren't many class options which is what I prefer when working out. Yoga is at 7:30pm Monday nights which is a bit too late for me but still wanted to try it out. There are only 2 other class options during the week. The class was ok. The gym has a few different levels that I didn't get to see but it looked welcoming and there were tables and couches for people to hang out on. I think it would be fun to try their personal training sessions and they offer a free consultation and free tour. They also have a massage therapy room there. Overall ok experience but I like what they are trying to do here!

Tyler is great! I've been going to his classes for a little over a year and a half and at 26, I'm…read morethe fittest and strongest I've ever been. I met Tyler through a friend of a friend who asked me to sign up with him so they could get a referral discount. I was wary of trying it out because I had my "cardio rat" routine down. I did my 45 min on the treadmill/elliptical/stair master, threw in a couple machine leg sets, and then called it a day. However, the first class I went to with Tyler, I was sold. The classes consist of a lot of conditioning and strength training workouts that use your body weight or kettle bells to kick your ass for 45 min. It's a full body workout and I always leave feeling satisfied that I truly got a workout in. Plus, you see results and continue to see results. I can do more reps faster, I can use heavier kettle bells, and I feel stronger. My bod is more toned than it's ever been and he's serious when he says he can help you "build a better butt." I go to his classes (T, Th, S, and Sun) as consistently as possible and also do a personal training session with him once a week. The personal training is great- it's a time to focus on what you want and try some new lifts, techniques, or workouts. I never considered lifting for strength before Tyler. I was worried I'd hurt myself or get some crazy big muscles. Instead, I'm toned out and have this new confidence in my strength as a female. I could barely squat 45 pounds properly when I started and now I'm squatting over 150 pounds! Long story short, I highly recommend TC Personal Fitness. Tyler is super motivating, encouraging, and extremely knowledgeable in what he does. He's approachable and I trust that he has my best fitness interests in mind.

He works on good mechanics while lifting and encourages me to be stronger and push my level of weight and endurance. Both my daughter and grandson work with him as well and we often have a three generation workout.
