The Habichuelas were perfect for me! This location has changed over the years according to some locals, but they all state that these changes are for the best. In other words, El Obrero keeps getting better. The only downside at the time that we whent it's that there was only one server taking care of the majority of the tables, so getting our check was a little bit of a wait. The "Fonda" offered cheap and limited menu and everyone knew everyone's specialty and where to find the best place to stretch you hard working money. El Obrero is well known since forever. I remember the place as a student at the University of Puerto Rico. Place of encounter it opened very early and close when the food was gone. Right now El Obrero has changed with the times but given the current economy it is still a good alternative/ experience in Puerto Rican traditional gastronomy. The ambiance is very casual as is the attention from the workers. Everything here is cooked with time tested recipes and served according traditional forms. The founded are gone in the gastronomic universe but El Obrero continues. Ask yourself why? Of course it merits a detour when in Puerto Rico.
