When it comes to Puerto Rican food, I truly only know Grandma's cooking. Our close friends mom, whom we refer to as Grandma cooked some of the best Pernil,arroz con gondules, tostones, and so on. So on our first night in the PR, we definitely wanted some authentic Puerto Rican food and with no recommendations, I resulted to what I know and did some Yelp searching. Not far from us was Toston Jibareño. As soon as we entered, I knew we were in the right place. The place has a decent amount of people inside so I knew it had to be ok. The menu has items I wasn't familiar with, but I went with what I thought I knew. Let me just say everything we ordered was spot on authentic to what I know. The pork chops was out of this world. The mofongo's and tostones brought back memories, the skirt steak was so tender and they did not have arroz con gondules, but instead arroz con habichuelas which are beans and I can't eat beans. It was a great first night. As much as I would love to come back,I have to try different places and different things, but if you are a local and haven't been here or a tourist and want good PR food, this is a great first stop. read more

We were recommended to come here by an employee at the rum distillery we were at before this (Ron del Barrilito), and it may have been the alcohol speaking, but it was delicious. My friends and I shared the skirt steak with mofongo, and the mofongo was the best we had our entire trip. We got to try to chicharron too, and it was crispy and flavorful. Yelp reviews brought me here. Unfortunately, they were out of four of the beef dishes on the menu that sparked my interest. They were completely out of beef. I've been eating pork for days, so that was not an option, and I really didn't want chicken nor fish. However, the waitress told me one of the chicken dishes was very good so I tried it. I had an appetizer and a cocktail. They were fine. For the entree, I had chicken breast with a creamy garlic sauce, served with seasoned rice mixed with beans. The rice was flavorful, but it was not warm, not heated thoroughly. The chicken lacked depth of flavor. It was cooked plain with a garlic sauce poured on top and a few slices of red sweet peppers. Service was fine. The waitress was very friendly and asked how everything was. I told her the rice was not warm. She offered to fix it. However, I lost my appetite. Casual dining atmosphere. Unfortunately, the food was mediocre. Maybe is was a bad night, not sure. I'm on vacation, so I will not return. read more

Fantastic local restaurant in strip shopping area in San Juan. We found this simply based on great reviews, and we were so glad we did! We arrived around 6 PM on a weeknight and within 15 minutes every table in the restaurant was full. The vibe was very joyful and service was extremely friendly. Staff was very willing to make recommendations and their food was absolutely excellent. This is a cafeteria style business. The service is prompt, attentive and friendly. They have a full PuertoRican fare. It is family oriented, Salsa music plays on the radio. The tables are set for 4and a few for 6. They serve alcoholic beverages in a very casual atmosphere. Their food is served hot and everything comes out to order. This is an excellent place if you are shopping and want to eat authentic Puerto Rican cuisine with a busy diner/cafeteria style ambiance. There's ample free parking in the strip mall, and restrooms were nice and clean. We arrived at around 1 pm and it was almost full but we found a table for two right away. The server immensely took our drink order, which included a glass of the house Merlot wine ($6) and a Medalla beer served in a cold glass mug. We both had variations of their salmorejo de jueyes(a well seasoned local land crab meat casserole). I had it in a stuffed large half avocado with rice and beans and a side salad, and my sister had it as a casserole with fried plantain tostones and side salad. The jueyes salmorejo was delicious and served in portions. The tostones were nicely done with a crunchy exterior and freshly fried to a perfect golden hue. I didn't find my beans to be particularly tasty, lacking the taste of condiments in a well made sofrito. But, all in all, it was a great experience and I'm definitely returning. read more

Thisvrestaurant is in the same plaza as the Sam's Club. I really loved this place! The food was great and the ambience was lively. I had some white rice with pink beans, Mofongo, and fried pork chunks. This meal was straight up home cooked-flavorful! I washed it all down with a grape Sunkist. This was way more food that I could have but I was really hungry. Service was good and the food came out really fast and nothing was missing. Prices were also decent for the amount and taste of the food. There is plenty of parking in this shopping center and we didn't have to wait for a table at the time that we went which was a Thursday around 4pm. read more

I ordered the Biftec filed Mofongo and it was above my expectation of flavor although the Mofongo was a dry inside the biftec caldo make the whole thing come together super good. The service was great Vanesa was on top of my order she said it will take 25 minutes and she kept her word, exactly 26 minutes I got my to go order in my hands. Very good food and service for descent price. That mixed appetizers dish was great. I loved the cheese balls and croquettes. The pork meet in the bottom was on point as well. First Mofongo I eat in all my Puerto Rico trips that is not dry and everlasting in your throat. Churrasco was a big portion and tasted well. The place was full and seems very popular. Decided to try this restaurant yesterday with my family. It's a popular locals place and there was a 35 minute wait. We ordered the large sampler platter as an appetizer, mostly fried foods, but they were tasty (plantain chips, mozzarella sticks, breaded shrimp, etc). Although I let the waitress know that we don't eat pork (which is hard to avoid in Latin restaurants) she forgot to take out the fried ham croquettes from the appetizer platter. I was disappointed that they were out of sorullitos. I had the passionfruit Coco Mojito, which was delicious but my glass cup had a hole in it & it all spilled out. They quickly replaced it. We waited at the table without being acknowledged for about 10 minutes while a group of police officers walked in and immediately servers came up for their orders while I had to request someone to come to our table, and still waited about 8 minutes after that. read more

Too pricey for the quality. What we don't like about this place is the service. After we ordered, it took more than an hour for the plates to come out. This Place wasn't packed at the time. I noticed their local customers are their priority. The local customers who came after us got their food much sooner than ours. I see 10 of their staff just standing around. food comes out of the kitchen once every 30 minutes. extremely slow service... Its frustrating. This is not a place for tourists. read more
