Delicious food and drinks! I ordered the mofongo with shrimp and it did not disappoint, the portion served was enough for lunch and dinner. For the table, we ordered bacalaitos that were packed with flavor, enough to share amongst three people. I would definitely recommend their cocktails, they range from $8-$10 and they are a decent size. I ordered a virgin piña colada and it was super creamy and delicious. The service itself was also great; the food took a bit to come out but it was all fresh and made to order. Upon arrival we were greeted and immediately seated. The unique decorations brought back many memories, making me feel even more nostalgic. Our server kept our drinks full, so that was a plus. We started the evening by ordering plantains soup and codfish as appetizers. The main dishes were the highlight. Obviously my pictures speak louder than words, the flavor was truly more than what I had expected. The place is very nice, great decoration, waitresses are dress like jibaritas (traditional costume) and valet parking is free since parking is limited. Food is okay but expensive. Mofongo is good and moist, surtidos are okay. Sangrias are very good and affordable. Recommended to everyone to just try the place once. read more

This place is so cute. I love the decor from the lights to the plates. Everyone was super welcoming and friendly. Our waiter was friendly and helpful. I got a red sangria that was very yummy. Raices is amazing and a hidden gem in Caguas. I'm vegan and my cousin brought me here for vegetable mofongo. The waiter understood my dietary restrictions and suggested I tri-fongo. Tri-fongo is just like mofongo, except that instead of being made only with green plantains, the fried mash is a combo of green plantains, sweet plantains and yucca. The mofongo was topped with a mushroom based sauce that was amazing. The staff was very attentive and accommodating. I love the decor and the uniforms the staff wear. The staff are dressed in 50's style uniforms and the sugar cane fields painted on the walls remind me of the stories my grandfather told me when I was young. I really recommend the place to anyone. If you're a tourist staying in San Juan I recommend you take the 30 minute drive to eat at Raices. read more

It's one of my Mom and I favorites. The service is one of the best, and love the Caguas restaurant better than the San Juan because is not crowded. Love the Sangria and the original glass cup. Love the unique style. Ok, now about the food. Great taste, my Mom and I, we had the chuletas kan kan, mofongos (chicken, churrasco, carne frita), asopao, chicken breast, and all taste good. This is a tourist trap. The food is mediocre at best and the service is AWFUL!My husband and I went there on Jan 3rd 2022. It wasn't crowded so they really can't justify the 1hr wait on one single dish (shrimp mofongo). On top of everything and this is my main complaint; they overcharged us. The restaurant itself is really cute and charming. I haven't been to the one in Old San Juan, but I heard this one is less crowded. Service was friendly and fast, and I liked that they brought the kid meals before, which kept the kids entertained. I had the churrasco, which was perfectly cooked, seasoned well and tender. The aranitas were crunchy and not greasy. But the star was the tres leches cake. It's served with sauces, that although at not be necessary to be technicolor, if you are into taking pictures of your food, it's a good one, but flavor-wise, it was just out of this world. Top 3 tres leches ever for me. My friend was trying to be polite and letting me have at it, but once she had a taste, she didn't want to let go either. The area though is not the greatest so it's better to go to the Old San Juan location. The chuleta kan kan was one large deep fried pork chop. Their mojitos are smaller than a child's sippy cup. We were only a party of four, but the bill was outrageous at $169 - for terrible food. I don't know who's raices they cook with, but it's not Puerto Rican. If you want the best food and service, I recommend Mojitos Bar and Grill in Bayamon. We were excited to eat at the Raices in Caguas after visiting the San Juan location last year.... what a huge dissappointment! The service was extremely slow, we waited well over an hour to be served our food (it was not crowded) & the food was mediocre at best. The pork chops were good/tender large serving enough for 2 however the mofongo was very dry, unlike the San Juan location where all the dishes we ordered were outstanding. We love the ambience at Raices.... skip Caguas & visit the San Juan location (it may be busier but it'll be well worth it). read more

Food was superb, authentic Puerto Rican cuisine. Our service was very friendly and spoke good English for us non-bilingual folk. He was able to describe the food and explain menu items we'd never heard of. The menu is in Spanish & English but as with any ethnic food there are terms we weren't familiar with from limited exposure to Puerto Rican food. The atmosphere is homely. The prices were slightly more than I expected, but they were still reasonable. I ordered a spiced rum with coke. I don't know what rum they used but it was excellent. My friends both ordered mahi-mahi which was fully cooked and they both enjoyed. I had the fried pork served in mashed plantains. It was great. Very savory and the mashed plantains were mostly savory as well. Not very sweet. They have their own parking lot in the back, but it is valet. It's free, but tipping the attendant was recommended by our server. read more

Everything was great at Raíces, I can even say excellent. It was Monday on Christmas day and we needed somewhere to go eat, Raíces was open and after some hesitation from my mother we decided to go eat there. The table was ready when we arrived (we called 10 minutes before), the service was wonderful (the staff was so nice and accommodating) and the food was delicious. I'm a vegetarian so I asked for something special and they were very eager to meet my needs. I ordered the mofongo with vegetables in creole sauce and OMG it was the best I've ever had! My family had mofongo with churrasco, the rice and beans, the mero fish, mofongo with shrimp, even to drink the sangria and margaritas were amazing. Oh and the yuca fritters for starter were beyond! Everyone loved the experience and I was so impressed I needed to make a review and help their rating. The place is very beautiful and you should definitely stop here and have a meal. read more

Another disappointment. The rice and beans were delicious, but the steak and onions, and the chicken and onions were bland and tasteless. The chicken was extremely dry and hard. I had to ask for some seasonings which the chef made some kind of garlic, salt, oil and pepper sauce, so that we could put on our meats. The table that they sat us in (family of four), was very small. You would think that they would send staff to clear off the dishes as we finished (we also had to wait an HOUR AND 15 MINS. FOR OUR DISGUSTING FOOD), but NO!!! I had to get up and clear the table and the take the empty dishes and cups to the bar area, in order to free up the table. And if you think that after seeing me do this, that anyone came running, walking, strolling over to see if they can help, you'd be sadly mistaken. They just looked at me and continued with their business. Very sad to see such a beautiful restaurant with such promise, fail on all levels. Are there any good PR food restaurants this side of the island, that gives good customer service as well? I'm Puerto Rican and am sooooo disappointed. I wanna go home! read more

Language barrier... During a trip to puerto Rico I eagerly scouted an authentic puerto rican food restaurant, as always we did some investigation on Yelp and decided to eat at Raices a yummy some what expensive spot that was sure to satisfy our taste buds. Unfortunately the decor of the place and ambiance was soon over shadow by the language barrier. Even though I speak Spanish and was able to communicate with the waitress fluently things became lost in translation fairly quickly. Our waitress appeared to be excited to serve tourist but failed at providing the best service possible. The menu was a bit difficult to understand and the waitress did a horrible job at explaining what the dishes entailed. After a few minutes of back and forth and changing my dish several times I was influenced by the waitress to order steak but not before she took her time to push the most expensive steak on the menu. I decided to try a less expensive steak but was further annoyed at the uncomfortable sitting the restaurant has. My party ordered the kan kan pork a delicious dish which based on other reviews is the recommended dish and I concur. Upon receiving our food I immediately took a bite of my steak which was horrible in texture. I requested to have it sent back and waited about 5 minutes before I could get a menu and order something else. Finally I ordered the rib eye and was told it would be a while before I could get same. About 30 minutes into the ordeal I decided to cancel my order completely and obtained the check, i only saw the manager when my steak was removed but he never returned to attempt to convince me to stay. It was as if they were satisfied i was leaving. Unfortunately I will not return to this place I believe the idea of the place is a great one that is not executed too well. At the start Raices looked great. They have a lot in back so valet parking is included so no searching for parking. Wonderful decor. The food was pretty good. We had a soup that was amazing. The two of us that ordered mofongo found it unusually dry. The chuleta kan kan also seemed a bit over done. That said it would have been a good meal except that it was ruined by the music. They had a guy playing guitar and singing which would have been great except that he had an amplifier and in such a small place this ruined the experience. We had to shout to hear each other and to hear the waiters, since we aren't that familiar with the dishes on the menu this meant we were completely guessing what we were ordering since we couldn't hear the waiters answer any of our questions.
