If you are in Puerto Rico and have a chance to drive up to this restaurant, it is worth the drive! It was romantic, had a beautiful view, and the food was amazing! The grilled squash was the best squash I have ever had in my life! I am not a vegan, but I have to say it was amazing! The service was on point and the waitress was very sweet!
Driving here from the Rio Grande beach area requires navigating a lot of windy very narrow roads. We only attempt the drive when we know we can be back before dark. When you arrive at the restaurant you park at the bottom of the hill and then walk up. (You won't see it from the road) For mobility impaired guests you can drive up and drop off passengers. The restaurant is two floors and is "open air" with plastic and/or shades that roll down in the event of a quick shower. I highly recommend the pork chop although I am sure you can't go wrong with any selection. The meals are not just delicious but also beautifully plated.
Authentic farm to table food. Loved the location. Restaurant is open to enjoy the views and the cross breeze felt wonderful. Staff were all cordial and welcoming. Our server explained items we didn't understand. Fresh and tasty!
The magnificent brainchild of chefs, Raúl Correa, Xavier Pacheco and René Marichal, Bacoa Finca y Fogon, is a sustainable farm to table restaurant that has taken traditional Puerto Rican cuisine and elevated it to unimaginable heights. The experience starts with a little drive west of San Juan to a town called Juncos. One might be fooled entering the little unpaved parking area, but beyond it exists a paradise level sensory and flavor experience. As you trail up to the restaurant you are captivated by fertile and lush land, a picturesque lake and fruit trees abounding. The unassuming open air main dining room offers guests an exquisite view of the landscape. Our meal began with passion fruit and spicy margaritas brimming with fresh flavor and rimmed with Tajin. We ordered the watermelon salad with red onion and mint, the Cod Fish Fritters (bacalaitos) and the Sorullos de Maiz appetizers..all outstanding!! As a girl I loved Sorullos, but eating them at Bacoa feels like I'd never really had one until now...toasted to perfection and bursting with sweet corn flavor We ordered the Gambas and Lamb Pastelon entrees. WOW is probably the only appropriate description. The substantial portion of fresh prawns, simply prepared, head on over a romesco sauce, served with pumpkin rice, were nothing short of succulent and the Lamb Pastelon was expertly crafted into delicate layers that made this traditionally heavy dish, seem lighter Finally, the denouement of the meal was the Bread Pudding. No bread pudding has ever come close to Bacoa!!! Absolutely exquisite.flavor, texture and presentation..this one gets a 100 out of 10 and is worth every pound gained!! Please note It is hard to get a reservation, so you will need to book 3 weeks in advance but I promise you and your palette will not be disappointed by this Puerto Rican Perfection.
Ambiance is absolutely amazing, it was a rainy day in the mountains with a cool breeze. There is a cat who will greet you and we had a view of the lake. Service was excellent and very attentive. Something you don't find too much here due to cultural difference. Food was 10/10 amazing. DO not skip the goat cheese cheese cake. I had the mahi and my father had pork. It was the best pork and mahi ive had on the island!
Cannot over-recommend this restaurant. Farm to table, dishes cooked to peak perfection. Outstanding service and fantastic rustic location. We've been several times and have never been disappointed. Easily one of Puerto Rico's best restaurants.
Farm to Table with a Boricua sazón! What a great place to come with your family or a group of friends and have a good time eating amazing food. The ambience was lovely with traditional puertorrican music on the background. Very chill vibe. I went with my mom and husband and we stated with some cocktails and appetizers. We ordered the cabbage, the 'bacalaitos' and the smoke local pork. Everything exceptional! The bacalaitos were perfectly crunchy, the cabbage had a smoke to it that was delicious and the pork was tender and tasty. As main course I had the swordfish fillet made perfectly with a buttery sauce and some malanga chips on top. My mom and my husband shared the catch of the day made on the grill. They say it was amazing. I do recommend making a reservation ahead of time. It can get busy!
Ambiance - fantastic and rustic. Service - good. Food - not that impressive. We ordered trio dips with calabasa/pumpkin, beets and pigeon pea dips. The beet dip tasted like a very sweet tomato paste. The pigeon pea dip was grainy and very strong cumin taste. The pumpkin dip tasted good, well-balanced flavor and texture. I got the grilled whole snapper. The fish was on the dry side. There's nothing spectacular or amazing flavor - just fish with a good squeeze of lemon. The only redeeming food was the NY steak covered with coffee. It was tender and cooked very well. The pina colada flavor tasted more like coconut cream - very weak pineapple flavor. Overall, very disappointed. For a bill of $180 for 2 people - it was not worth it.
Great location, great atmosphere, great cocktails and great food. Best of all, their bread pudding. Try the goat cheese cheesecake, it's worth it, but the bread pudding was one of the best I've had. I would love to go back the next time we visit the island.
Amazing restaurant nestled on such a beautiful part of the island! The walk from the parking lot makes you even more excited for what's to come. Our waitress was so nice and told us all about the menu and best items to try! My wife and I had the cod and beef croquettes which had so much lasting flavor I recommend. Then we had the lentil and pork ragu with fresh bread... this was so flavorful and delicious. For mains we had the coffee and pepper crusted prime rib with a chimichurri sauce along with rice and beans, and the wood fired red snapper. Such an amazing meal and I'm so happy with what we ordered. We finished off with the bread pudding and ice cream chased down with some cortaditos. Thank you so much for the amazing experience we can't wait to come back
Reserved table for 3:30, got seated at 4pm. Hostess said that the table was still occupied and we would have to wait, very obnoxiously. Other than that, our waitress was extremely friendly, offered recommendations and very attentive to our table. The food is farm to table, everything grown on the grounds and made from scratch. Outdoor seating with a nice view.
So it was a trek to get there but its worth it. Cool place to eat and be around. Farmhouse style. All local food prepared in a local style. Order a bunch of apps for the table and enjoy a good bottle of wine. Dinner was exceptional. Well prepared PR classics. Relaxing atmosphere with excellent service. Very accommodating and highly recommended.
I discovered this beautiful restaurant just one day before leaving Puerto Rico, and I'm so grateful I did. The food was some of the best I've ever tasted, and the entire experience was unforgettable. From the beautiful sounds of the coquí in the background to the stunning structure and ambiance of the restaurant, everything felt truly special. I had the pleasure of enjoying the experience with my very handsome husband, and I couldn't have asked for a better moment. The women who served us were kind, patient, and welcoming, and the restaurant was beautifully lit, creating a warm and romantic atmosphere. Every dish we ordered was exceptional. My husband, being as kind and supportive as he is, always lets me order everything my eyes desire, even when he knows I'll never be able to finish it all. I love that I get to enjoy every bite to my heart's content--and sharing those moments with him makes the experience even more meaningful. Great food, a beautiful setting, and an even better partner made this one of the most memorable dining experiences of my trip to Puerto Rico. I only wish I had discovered this place sooner! read more

I had high hopes for Bacoa Finca; but ultimately, the experience and the food fell short, rolled down the mountains of Juncos, and left us with terrible stomach aches. For drinks we got El Huracan. Excellent drink. Never had one like it. Starters: "sorrullitos de maiz" (corn and Parmesan fritters) and Carne ahumada al guarapo (smoked pork with tostones). The sauces were mixed up when served, so we got a mayo ketchup sauce with the corn fritters and the smoked sauce with the pork. Once we figured that out, the apps tasted excellent. The smoked aioli really took the fritters to another level. The pork had a nice salty/smokiness as well and the tostones were just alright (not crispy like the ones we make at home) but a good base for the juicy pork. For our mains: this is when the experience and quality fell to quite low depths. The "Pesca Fresca al buren" was good. One side was cooked perfectly, tender, and the cilantro topping was delightful and citrusy. But the other side of it was overcooked and dry. It came with coconut rice. But if you didn't tell me it had coconut, I'd think it was just plain white rice with concon (crispy rice)...that's how burnt the coconut flakes were and how bland the rice was overall. We also got the Arroz del dia - which was a rice with rabbit. This was awful. There were large chunks of rabbit in the rice with bone. The rabbit wasn't cut well because there were bone fragments throughout the rice. This was just a horrible textural experience. On top of that, the rabbit was dry and gamey. Despite it being marinated in wine, the gaminess was way too overpowering. We speak Spanish and the waitress asked us if we liked the dish. We said "no." She didn't press for more info, but asked if we wanted to wrap it up to-go...we politely declined. Now for dessert, we were so excited to try the "Budin de pan." When I tell you this too was such a let down. The ice cream came almost completely melted and the bread pudding was eggy...I don't know if this was just an off night. But we also left the bread pudding basically as it arrived. Again, the waitress noticed this and asked if we wanted to purchase something else....strange service. Overall, the quality is not consistent with the reviews I've read. Given the long drive, the higher price points, the lackluster execution of the dishes, and the horrible stomach aches we had, I wouldn't recommend visiting. There are better options in terms of value, quality, and service in Puerto Rico. read more
The views from this place are amazing. Such a cute farm to table restaurant. Came here for lunch after a coffee tour so we were hungry. It was a. Nice breezy day and we got to sit right by the pond. The service is a little slow so we were a little rushed at the end eating since we had a 90 min drive back to the Arecibo area for a tour. Our waitress was nice but seemed a bit busy/distracted. So we didn't get as much attention to order quickly and have our drinks come out, etc... We ordered drinks to start. We also got a water for the table and just remember you have to pay per person for waters... we ordered a few apps/small dishes to share including the tomato with balsamic which was basically a caprese salad.They were out of the watermelon salad (which was a pitty after she told us about it and it was a special and we were then craving it. They had not opened until 11:30 which is when we went so just seems like they didn't have the ingredients/plan for the ingredients). We also got the LENTILS WITH TOMATO SOFRITO, COCONUT WATER, ANNATTO OIL, HERBS, AND CRISPY PLANTAIN. SERVED WITH COCONUT RICE. This was my absolute favorite dish. Just so much flavor butting in your mouth. I had gotten. Mojito drink which was also very refreshing. For my meal, I was feeling the fish since it was one of the popular dishes. It did take a while to come out but it was deliciously seasoned and garnished. It came with a side and I had gotten the beans and rice. I just could not finish it all since we had to rush to a tour since the food took a while to come out. Overall, we all had full tummies and enjoyed our food. The service could have been a bit better with the waitress being more attentive but it was a gorgeous day and we're glad we experienced this place. read more

My favorite restaurant in purto rico. The food is next level and made with love and all local ingredients. Its the eye closing head back felling while the food touches your pallet. I chose to have the chef cook for me by choosing what to feed me. Couldn't be happier. read more

Our server Brenda was great. We ordered a lot of food but not too much. We wanted to try as much as possible and expected some leftovers. The corn fritters and pastelon appetizers were our favorites but the cheese dish did not disappoint! The pumpkin soup was outstanding, 10/10. The local fish special was one of the best fish dishes I've ever eaten, with a cilantro pesto type sauce. The skirt steak and smoked pork chop were also perfectly executed and highly recommended. Drinks were fresh and well made, the Viejo Borinqueno was terrific! Can't wait to go back! read more

The food was a revelation. Vegetarian as well as vegan options that are far from the same old thing. Delicious and beautifully presented. There have been several write ups in notable publications, including the NY TIMES, declaring Bacoa as the best restaurant in America. It would be really hard to argue against that statement after eating there. The setting is idyllic. You're transported to a simpler way of life in a humble yet beautiful surrounding. The food is far superior to what is expected. Every dish we tried was spectacular. Treat yourself and explore dishes you may not be familiar with. You will not be disappointed. The staff are excellent and very friendly, as you would expect in Puerto Rico, they'll guide you into quite the culinary experience. A+++ can't wait to visit again. read more
Reserve-Reserve-Reserve Location is beautiful with a small pond on the side. Service is fast and attentive. Most have the home made bread !!! The Jacquita rice was very good and unique in terms of the flavors and ingredients. T-bone was cooked to perfection. Finally, the passion fruit frappe was organic and delicious. This restaurant is fantastic. I came across it in an article while researching places to eat in PR while I was on vacation. Service was great and the atmosphere was fun (it is not air conditioned though) everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Dishes are cooked over an open fire and have that great wood fire taste. Everything tastes fresh and was seasoned perfectly. We ordered so much we enjoyed it all the next day. Pork, octopus, rabbit, papaya salad, dessert. It was well worth the drive to get here, I would definitely come back. read more

No tiene aire acondicionado y creo que necesitan tener un método alterno de refrescar el área del comedor. Servicio excelente esta ocasión Brendalee. Lugar para ir con calma y no tener prisa. Si tiene hambre pedir un trago y aperitivos. Ambiente familiar. Personas con problemas para caminar los pueden dejar en la entrada del local y luego te estacionas. This is going to be one of my new "you gotta go" places for Puerto Rico. This restaurant was a bit of a drive, for us, and left me feeling a bit car sick but it is absolutely worth the ride. We had a late night, large group reservation and the staff took such good care of us, as if we were their friends and family. The open area seating area makes it a beautiful and relaxing dining, even when we had some rain roll in. We got so many items to share, and with all of us eating I did not get any pictures sadly of the food and due to the person who wanted to go there I am not 100% sure on dishes names as he ordered for the entire table. The meat was delicious, juicy and smokey.. I could have just ate meat and been happy. There was not one bad plate and the highlights were the drinks and deserts so make sure to leave room for those. I believe their items rotate quite a bit based on what produce is currently flourishing so finding a menu can prove hard to do until you get there. Sadly during the rain early that year they lost their plantain trees so we were not able to have any plantain dishes. We also regretted our late reservation as we were too late to tour their property and next time I will get to see the farm. read more

I think I had high expectations of this spot because I read a BBC article about how this might be the best restaurant in the U.S., which is admittedly a high bar. I think some things were five stars - the pumpkin dish with nuts and the acerola (Suriname cherry) juice. The bread with pigeon pea (gandules) dip was yummy, but not enough I'd go out of my way to get it again. The prime rib was so disappointing to me - an unexciting steak at a really high price, which I think really lowered my experience of the restaurant (def 2-3 stars). It is a pretty restaurant and lots of greenery around, and the service and staff were great. But I don't think I'd go out of my way to eat here again or recommend folks do (maybe if you order better). read more

I write this review with mixed feelings and I'll tell you why. After reading the BBC article on Bacoa and it being considered one of the best restaurants in the United States and in PR I figured it was worth a shot - of course expectations were set high based on the article. Upon arriving we were greeted and seated right away. Began our drinks order with a piña colada and mojito. Simply put, drinks were spectacular - best piña colada I've had in Puerto Rico so far. For appetizers we had the beets dip, bacalaito (cod fritters), and watermelon salad. I can't tell you how insanely delicious the beet dip and fritters tasted ( I was not a fan of the salad). Moving to entrees, we had the prime rib steak and whole branzino. Both dishes were beautifully presented and looked mouthwatering. Prime rib was cooked as ordered and pretty tasty. Branzino had some very fishy tasting parts and some with no flavor. I also didn't think the mango slices pair well with the fish. Lastly for dessert we had a very original dessert - almond flan with a thick layer of shredded almond found at the bottom of the custard dessert. Never had a flan like this before - muy yummy. You might be wandering, why the low rating? I enjoyed our apps and drinks more than the entrees because it was fresh and tasty. However, I struggle with this restaurant being considered one of the very best in the US and it's territories. Although, service was great, we informed our server from the beginning that we planned to share our entire meal and for the prime rib steak we only got one steak knife. Our experience can be described as good, but not remarkable. Food can be described as good, but not outstanding. As I mentioned at the beginning of my review, I'm conflicted if my three star rating is because expectations were set very high and they were not met. read more

A definitely must go to Restaurant. There is a twist to the way they prepare their food and I will tell you, it is amazing! We ordered the smoked pork chops, pumpkin dip, lentil entrée, and all of it was excellent. Not to mention, their service was excellent. read more
