P A I N F U L It pains me to even recall our brief encounter here. We ordered an appetizer & a side of French Fries as just a snack to tide us over till dinner. What a joke. To start with, there weren't many tables with customers, and sufficient staff was on the floor. We were greeted with scowls and crappy attitudes. Not very welcoming if you know what I mean. So after ordering, we got our mozzarella stick that were hot and tasty, but, a BIG But...... We were served an oval plate, not platter with about 10 french fries that didn't even cover the plate! For it being Saturday and 1:30pm I love that we were seated rather quickly! Looked clean but bathrooms needed a lock that worked. The food was decent, we had fried shrimp and it was tasty. The tartar sauce was too much Mayo more than anything. Fries didn't taste fresh but were alright for a last minute lunch spot. Our waiter was kind and patient, somewhat attentive. When in this area, I was given the names of three restaurants on the Port Isabel side of the causeway/bridge. Los Cabos was one of them, along with Isabel and Manuel. They are not really a trifecta, though. Isabel and Manuel are breakfast and lunch places, while Los Cabos stays open until the early evening and one can have dinner there. Los Cabos is right on the main drag, just a little ways inland from tacky but fun(ny) Pirate's Cove. You might immediately like the name, thinking of places like Cabo San Lucas, to which I've never been but would like to see. However, I'm going to go with 3 stars on this one, though I would have wanted to give them 4 stars. I'm more okay with doing this because Manuel's is no longer operating, leaving Isabel's and Los Cabos as the "go to" Mexican eateries. Los Cabos has parking right in front in its off-street lot. The interior is spacious and clean. They had quite a bit of selection on the menu, of which there were several based on what you wanted to eat and when. I had a combination platter somewhere in mid-afternoon when it was not crowded. I liked most of what I ate and the portions were nicely sized. My only issue was with the cheese on some of the items. Who doesn't like cheese on their pastas, enchiladas, or salads, for example? Based on appearances, it looked good - like a cross between shredded cheese and crumbles. However, I can't say I like the way it tasted and would have preferred to have the items on my platter without it. But that's an easy fix. The service was not that upbeat. It was a little slow and they weren't that friendly - I'm talking both the person who did the hosting and the server. They need to ratchet that up a little bit, since the other places in Port Isabel have, or had, the art of customer service dialed. There is a little service charge for the use of plastic, but it's minor. (At least they accept credit cards.) The prices at Los Cabos are fair. read more

Since we last been here the prices rose just a little like .75 cents a item and still very affordable and worth the prices, which aren't very high for anything you get here. We came in to eat and waited 25 minutes for chips and about an hour for our food, food came out cold and there was a wrapper in the cheese on our quesadillas. The lady taking our orders never checked on us and was very rude giving us attitude even when we explained that a wrapper was in our food. The food that didn't have wrappers in it wasn't even good anyways, I would've rather just ate the wrapper filled quesadillas. I have to say Los Cabos is taking extra precautions during COVID. The cups are styrofoam the utensils are plastic. It smells very clean. It is a little quiet, (no music) until the mariachis came in. Ambiance is quite plain. Tables are a bit wobbly and chairs dig into your love handles. The tables are covered in plastic and the menus are under the plastic which is quite ingenious. Lack of cross contamination. I had the Texan chicken enchiladas, the chicken was kinda bland and the tortillas needed a thicker coated sauce. They were ok. The rice was light and traditional, it had a great consistency. The refried beans are good, but they had a little more spice than I usually get from other restaurants beans. My husband had the nachos, if you don't like lettuce you might want to have them keep it off because removing it is a pain. Boys had burgers, they said they were good. Fries were excellent. WOW.......to say I have never been treated this BADLY in a restaurant doesn't quite cut it. My family and I were treated as if we were invisible, that would be a more appropriate description. We walked into a full restaurant on a Sunday morning, one couple was standing and placing a to-go order, every table was full but it looked like 4 or 5 of the groups were finishing up breakfast and no one else was waiting. 5 employees were on the floor plus a manager yet no one acknowledged our presence for better than 5 minutes, as we stood at the host stand. I stood there trying to make eye contact with someone but not a single employee would speak or look at us. Abruptly the manager/(owner?) walked past us and said "the wait is going to be 30 to 45 minutes," without even making eye contact. No offer to put us on a wait list and really no interest in accommodating us was At all....so we left. I am a 20 year veteran of the restaurant/hospitality industry and rarely, if ever post a negative review. The majority of the time I can understand what challenges an operation faces and don't post a review because quite frankly I've been there before, sometimes to spite your best effort you underachieve. This felt much different, it felt like we weren't welcome, it felt like they didn't want us there. If this was my restaurant I would be conducting a major retraining effort at the very least. A great little find in Port Isabel, TX. Los Cabos is marketed as seafood and Mexican food. We ordered the Chicken Monterrey and the Mexican combo. Both were really good. The chicken tasted fresh and not previously frozen. There was plenty of food on both dishes to fill any stomach and then some. Prices were very affordable for any budget. The atmosphere was cafe style and simple yet clean and pleasant. It wasn't the best food I've ever had but at it's price point and level it was very good and I will return in the future. read more

After discovering that the "authentic" near-by restaurant was closed on Mondays, we decided to check this place out. So happy we did! The staff was attentive and the food was delicious. After you're seated they bring over the standard chips and salsa, but also a small bowl of fresh frijoles charros. The servings are generous and fresh. The only thing I didn't care for was the shrimp cocktail- too sweet for my taste. Personal preference. The next day we visited the almost 5 star "authentic" place, and it did not compare. We were a family of 8 and they had 5 open tables that could accommodate 6 or so each. We asked if they could put a couple together for us.
