We just woke up from having a great night on the island and were super hungry. I found El Papa's on Yelp with a bunch of good reviews so we decided to check it out. We walked in and were immediately greeted by the friendly staff. We sat ourselves and enjoyed the quiet bustle of a mom and pop restaurant. I ordered the Spanish Omelette with hash browns, frijoles and a flour tortilla. All of it was delicious! Hands down the best meal on my visit to Port Isabel. Wow, amazing meal for such an unassuming restaurant. Flavorful food, great service, and of course meals are always better when you are with family. I would definitely recommend this hidden gem to anyone in and around SPI. read more

This was our second time coming here in the past 2 vacation trips to port Isabel. Super friendly service. Food came out quickly. We went 2x for breakfast during this years vacation. It's the perfect place to start our morning before heading to the beach. They do get busy quickly, so the earlier the better. The tacos are very big, kept us full throughout the morning for sure! Went for a few breakfast tacos and was not disappointed! The flour tortillas were soft and fresh and they were not stingy with filling them at all! The staff was very friendly and attended us quickly! The restaurant was small but cozy and the second sitting area seemed to come in handy because it got busy pretty quickly and for good reason! This is a small personal cafe. The wait staff seem like family but the food is great. We had the breakfast taco. Mine was the one with all the meats and Jeanie got the fajita one. The homemade flour tortillas are the way to go - probably makes the whole meal. They even had hot serranos they grilled and added to our meals! I love hot stuff. We will be going back. read more

Went for a midweek breakfast. It was busy but we got a table right away. Both got the breakfast tacos and a cup of coffee. Tacos were more like burritos as they were huge. Delicious too especially with the salsa. My husband had chorizo and egg while I had bean, egg, cheese, and potato. All of the their food is always awesome. We're from Fort Worth and we come here at least twice on our annual short week at South Padre. Their refried beans are a standout. Best you'll ever have. If you want breakfast taco's this is by far the best of the best. We ate there every morning during our stay as we will next year. They are very gracious with their food portions. Our family enjoyed their French toast w bacon Wed breakfast special (only 5$!) and I had their breakfast taco (more like a burrito). There was a little wait for the food around 20-25 min but it was worth it. Food was really tasty and no corners were cut. Tortillas and salsa were on point. French toast was top tier. Even the bacon it came with was thick cut and crispy, not at all skimpy. Prices are low. BEST breakfast. Tortillas are great, beans have the best flavor. We have been here a few times and the food is consistently great. We were only here a week but came here twice because it's so good. Husband got a side of shrimp with breakfast and said they were so good and fresh. Elda, the young lady who waited on us was super friendly. Always smiling and greeting everyone. Such an amazing spot to eat it! Mom had the Big Mama plate, sister had the fish tacos, and I have the Carne Guisada taco. Everything tasted homemade and so good! The taco was bigger than the plate they served it on! The one thing that was even better than the food was the hospitality the workers gave! We had 2 kids with us as well and were told it would be around a 45 minute wait and were considering leaving because the kids were hungry and the server told us they would get out the kids plate fast and in a hurry if we did stay! Make this resturant a stop when in area. Our order included breakfast burritos of machaca, bean and cheese and potato and egg. They were large. They were tasty. Very hot (temperature) how I like it. Fresh home made tortillas. The food was not overly salty or greasy. And the salsa was perfect, flavorful woth out over doing the heat and just tasked good. Great little family business. A very nice & "down home" family run restaurant for the last 35 years! Staff was attentive and very friendly but not over bearing. We went on a Friday for lunch & the special for the day was fried shrimp or fried fish with either French fries or rice & beans. Shrimp was excellent with a nice crispy crust and was not heavy on the batter. My wife chose the shrimp special and I could not resist ordering the "Texas size fajita taco" with lettuce, tomato & avocado slices!!!! The flour tortillas are freshly made in-house and huge. I highly recommend it! We will definitely be back when we're in the SPI / Port Isabel area again. By the way, their menu prices are very, very reasonable and you get a nice generous serving each time!!! read more

The restaurant has kind of a hole in the wall feel to it but it was clean and the staff was awesome. We enjoyed our food, the beef in the taco was a little bland. The kids liked the food a lot too. I wouldn't call it as seasoned as we would have liked but it was good food overall. read more

A family run place for 50+ years. The cashier, who is very charming, is also the main waitress. Her mother is the cook. The there décor is casual. We ate breakfast there on a Tuesday and a Thursday. On Thursday a guitarist played a few songs which was nice. The food is very well priced even if you don't order the daily breakfast special. Over the course of the two trips there I ordered a veggie omelet and chilaquiles. Both were great and were fairly priced. Do yourself a favor and skip breakfast or for that matter just about any meal on the island. Instead take the short drive across the causeway and seek out great little truly local places like this one. It will be worth it. read more
