Everything about this place is perfection! Attentive staff, beyond friendly and welcoming, the food is bomb, the salsa is hot, and lunch felt like a big party. If flying into Harlingen on your way to the island, I highly recommend a stop here!

We were on our way back to Houston from Brownsville, so we searched for best Mexican Breakfast in Harlingen. It was a little off Hwy 69, but worth the detour. My husband had the menudo/barbacoa plate. The menudo/barbacoa plate gets 5 stars from my husband. The menudo tasted like my mom's. Excellent! I ordered the pork chop/egg plate. It came with generous portions, of potatoes and refried beans (flavorful). You may order the pork chop plain as pictured or in ranchero sauce. It came with two homemade corn tortillas. Delicious! The coffee was perfect. The service was very attentive, courteous and friendly to all. Abundant parking. Highly recommended!

Driving back from south padre we wanted some breakfast. Figured it would be nice to hit a mexican restaurant for the authentic feel. Saw the reviews here and decided to go. I mean. The food was edible. The ice tea was good. The chips and salsa was good. But that was really about it. The tortillas were homemade they seemed but were tough and chewy. Eggs didnt seem cooked and were runny. Pork chop was well a baby pork chop and un flavorful. Idk. I just figured well this place has been here since 1950. Must be good. I left thinking. How have you been open since the 1950's. Staff was slow. Took more than once to ask for something before we received it. First it was water. Then tea. Then silverware. Then salt and pepper. Idk. Hopefully we just came on a bad day.

Stopped by on our way home from SPI. It was Sunday. The place was busy. We had a small wait for 2 people. The staff is friendly & the place is clean. The food is good. Where I feel this place needs improvement is hiring a bus boy to clean up tables to seat your guests who are waiting to be seated. You've got 2 girls trying to do everything from serving, seating, taking orders, cleaning tables, checking up on the customers who are already seated to see if they need anything else. Extra tortillas are $1.99! We had the Huevo Ranchero plate with Barbaquoa. Our waitress never came back to check on us. She forgot our extra tortilla. We had to get the attention of another waitress. You are given a pitcher of coffee at your table I guess so they don't have to come back & serve you. I needed limes had to wait. We had to get her attention for the bill.

The service was horrible, and the lady waitress brought back my ranchero plate with no sauce , apparently she said they didn't have the sauce ... she never ask if we needed anything.. my kid bacon and egg taco was not cook properly it was very chewy and way under cook. When I got to the cashier ask if everything was ok .. I said no and I voice my concern and simply just gave me a 10% off the ticket , mind you she said the sauce is optional!! I guess if my daughter gets food poisoning I have evidence..and the owner was just behind her and he didn't say anything... be careful people .

My mother and I came down from San Antonio for business and this restaurant caught our eye. We had an amazing experience, food was fantastic and the service was great! The wait was not long at all we were very satisfied with our breakfast.

Blanquita's is a place I visit every time I'm in Harlingen. They have fantastic breakfast and lunch specials. Today, I got the tampiqueña which comes with beef or chicken fajitas with 2 enchiladas (your choice of cheese, beef, or chicken) and rice and beans. The chicken enchiladas were my favorite thing to eat of everything On the plate. They were perfectly seasoned and cooked. The beef fajitas were awesome as well. Not too chewy. Definitely an amazing place to try!

    Enchiladas de pollo

The people are friendly, and the environment is nice for Covid restrictions. Dine in is allowed which is a huge plus. As far as the food goes. The seasoning is bland. We came with a group of 6 and tried various different dishes and our favorite part was the rice and beans. The rest of the dishes were okay I guess. I probably would not come back.

I ordered a plate that had a cheese enchilada, rice, beans, guac, a beef fajita taco and I got a carne guisada taco on the side just to try it out. I also got chips & queso because I wanted to try that, too. I think I'm too used to crappy fast food Mexican food like Taco Cabana, because I was expecting everything to be on the smallish side. I was dead wrong. The tacos are large and the carne guisada one was stuffed to overflowing. Two people could easily split the dinner, and the extra stuff was just wasteful on my part. I ate a fraction of what came. As far as the food goes, the rice is seriously good and so are the beans. That's typically where most restaurants just throw some filler on the plate and call it a day. The guacamole was good, too. The homemade chips are also delicious. I did enjoy the queso, but wouldn't put it too far above average restaurant faire. The fajitas were very good as was the carne guisada, although I thought the beef chunks were extremely large. I didn't care for the enchilada sauce, so I ended up not eating those. But, that's just personal preference, so take it with a grain of salt. Overall, I thought it was good food at a good price and I'll probably order it again when I come back through Harlingen.

Wow, while this place lacks flair, it far exceeds fair!…read more I've been scared of trying this janky-looking establishment out of fear of the wrath Montezuma would likely revenge upon my butt. Although the place looks like something to be feared, it is the closest restaurant to me, and last night I didn't want to venture far for my Mexican fill. After three months of driving by, I finally built up the courage to stop, and I am glad I did! Although the interior decor matches the plain and homely exterior, with no decorations except a few of the free posters and some mismatched tables and uncomfortable chairs, the food and service was among the best in town. First, the service. There were several waiters for this tiny establishment, and they could hustle. The drinks never went empty, and anyone who knows me, knows I drink a lot! Probably had five or six glasses of tea, and I never sat for even a moment, parched, at Platillo's. The hostess was nice and more-than-accommodating at one of my special requests. Next, I asked for hot sauce and jalapenos, as I often do, and the waiter asked, "Tabasco good?" I am not a big fan, but that seems to be number one standard in the industry, so I usually agree. However, on his own, he brought me the hotter, tastier, house sauce! Had he not took it upon himself, I would have never known it to exist. The only place to offer up a house hot sauce down here, and it is was worth that alone, because it was amazing. Which leads me to the food. The food was excellent! Homemade chips with great salsa. None of those bagged chips from the restaurant supplier. The salsa had a great deal of cilantro and was chunky like my girlfriend prefers, had the "wateriness" and and freshness I prefer. (However, still on the "too mild" side for my tastes, as is everywhere.) The salsa is is right between Los Asados and Las Vegas in taste and consistency. The sweet tea was great. The beans weren't my favorite, as I prefer them a little more runny, but to be fair the last few times I have ate at my other favorites, they too were more lumpy. The rice was good, but I've had orgasmic rice back home. My chalupa was good, right on par with everywhere else. The taco meat was the best I've had in a great long while, maybe the best ever. The enchilada was awesome, right on par with Las Vegas and Los Asados as the best enchiladas ever! The panchos were sub-par, I think it was their average cheese and their lumpy beans that bumped it down. My girlfriend loved her flank steak fajita, and she adored her mole. I tried the mole, and it was delicious (although I lack much experience for comparison on mole). They also provided our favored type of floured tortilla, rich and caramelized. One of the great tortillas, in my book. (I don't remember the other places with tortillas as good.) I also polished off her taco as she was full and their tacos can't be beat in the valley. I will be sure to visit again, as I am having a tough time sorting between Platillo's, Las Vegas, and Los Asados as "best in town". If you like these other two, give Platillo's a try. It might even be cheaper! Once again Harlingen has showed me to not judge a book by its cover: So many restaurants in the valley have taught me to not consider every eatery with a down trodden or plain appearance to be in cahoots with Montezuma. I've always liked "hole-in-the-wall", but also stayed away from places with holes in the wall. Yet, some of the best food in town is also very cheap. Cheap food, excelling in quality, served with great staff means the establishment has to give somewhere, so they give on decor plain and dilapidated establishments. Bonus: I learned that the stars on local restaurants are from a local news critic. So, watch for stars!

The service was amazing. It's a small restaurant so you better get here early. The food was pretty…read moregood. Will be coming back to Platillo's very soon.

Everyone seemed to like what they ordered. My Two Meat BBQ Plate had brisket slices and some smoked turkey breast. The turkey was a little dry but had good flavor and there was a lot of it. The brisket was nice and moist but unfortunately two slices were sliced incorrectly WITH the grain instead of across the grain. This made them tougher than they should have been. Kind of a rookie mistake. But the flavor was good. The grandson's spicy fried flounder was very good. He loved it! The spicy Chicken sandwich was excellent and shared between two of our party. Overall the food was good and the service was very good. The place wasn't busy because it was midafternoon which was nice since it's usually packed on the weekends.
