My husband had the menudo/barbacoa plate. The menudo/barbacoa plate gets 5 stars from my husband. The menudo tasted like my mom's. Excellent! I ordered the pork chop/egg plate. It came with generous portions, of potatoes and refried beans (flavorful). You may order the pork chop plain as pictured or in ranchero sauce. It came with two homemade corn tortillas. Delicious! Tried this Mexican Restaurant for breakfast today for the first time and I'm glad I did. It's definitely a little hidden gem in Harlingen. The decor is quite bright and the staff is very friendly and welcoming. I chose the Migas Locas (tortilla chips, chorizo, scrambled egg and yellow cheese) that came with refried beans and cubed potatoes with a choice of a flour tortilla. Sounds "weird" but it was pretty good. Let's just say it's easily the only meal of the day. The prices will seem high to some, but food prices are higher. I took off stars only because the restaurant was freezing cold and refills were hard to come by. The women's restrooms were also a bit difficult to get in and out of. The food was edible. The ice tea was good. The chips and salsa was good. But that was really about it. The tortillas were homemade they seemed but were tough and chewy. Eggs didnt seem cooked and were runny. Pork chop was well a baby pork chop and un flavorful. Idk. I just figured well this place has been here since 1950. Must be good. I left thinking. Stopped by on our way home from SPI. It was Sunday. The place was busy. We had a small wait for 2 people. The staff is friendly & the place is clean. The food is good. Where I feel this place needs improvement is hiring a bus boy to clean up tables to seat your guests who are waiting to be seated. You've got 2 girls trying to do everything from serving, seating, taking orders, cleaning tables, checking up on the customers who are already seated to see if they need anything else. Extra tortillas are $1.99! We had the Huevo Ranchero plate with Barbaquoa. Our waitress never came back to check on us. She forgot our extra tortilla. We had to get the attention of another waitress. The service was horrible, and the lady waitress brought back my ranchero plate with no sauce , apparently she said they didn't have the sauce ... she never ask if we needed anything.. my kid bacon and egg taco was not cook properly it was very chewy and way under cook. Today, I got the tampiqueña which comes with beef or chicken fajitas with 2 enchiladas (your choice of cheese, beef, or chicken) and rice and beans. The chicken enchiladas were my favorite thing to eat of everything On the plate. They were perfectly seasoned and cooked. The beef fajitas were awesome as well. Not too chewy. Mmm just finished eating my pozole and picadillo gordita and it was super good. First time eating pozole and I will order this dish in the future at Mexican restaurants. I'm wondering if their prices were updated as the spread costed me almost ten dollars but the yelp menu said it should cost 8 plus tax. We were visiting Harlingen in 2016 from Arizona, our family members invited us to meet them here for breakfast on our last day in the valley. Everyone in our group agrees that this was our best food experience while in Harlingen. We are going back in October and Blanquita's no doubt will be a must stop for us, at least twice! This place always comes up in conversation when any of us remember our trip to Texas. There was 7 of us from Arizona there and literally everyone bragged or talked about the plates they ordered. Do not order off the online menu. Called in an order for lunch using the websites menu and when I showed up to pay my total was 3 X the price. Ordered the panchos and a lemonade and paid $19 and change. When the menu online stated $7.99. Really disappointed especially since I actually recommend this place to clients. Order was also prepared carelessly, beans served only on one side, lettuce wilted and ships were stale. Blanquita's is a go-to for me when I want cheap but fantastic Mexican food, making this one of the more high-value Harlingen restaurants. With their soup bar you can choose from three different unlimited appetizers. I got their fideo and charro beans and enjoyed them, even though I always must add quite a bit of salt as a personal preference. I got their breakfast tacos and was pleased with the food and especially with how fast they arrived. The sweet tea is positive but isn't a mandatory drink here (like with Las Vegas Cafe). The waitstaff was courteous and attentive to our needs despite going at a busy hour. I recommend this to all, including those who have had Tex Mex their entire lives. read more

Actually, this review is for the Blanquita's at Old Business 83, which may be Blanquita's Number 3. The service today was horrible. There was no manager, just a waiter and waitresses. As a result, the business was in chaos. I asked a waitress if the manager was missing and she snapped that no one was missing. No one was at the cash register. People who wanted to pay were just standing and waiting. People with to-go orders were standing and waiting. One lady told me she had been waiting for 25 minutes and didn't have any idea if or when her to-go order would be ready. At the tables, people were sitting, do nothing. They had their drinks, but no food. The kitchen seemed to be mass confusion. I would not recommend going there if this is what the restaurant will now be like. I travel to the valley frequently for work. After arriving in Harlingen, I needed a quick lunch and randomly selected this place on Yelp and I'm so glad I did! I ordered two tacos, one on corn and one on flour. I ended up with three tacos somehow for $6 - amazing. And these were HUGE, and stuffed with quality ingredients. The corn tortillas are the best I've ever had - thick, fluffy, and flavorful. The flour was great as well although it got a bit tough as it cooled. My only critique is that the barbacoa was super greasy and could have used a bit more salt. But overall, these tacos were an amazing value and I have been talking up this place to colleagues. My wife and i have eaten here 4 or 5 times and it's always a hit or miss. We have only been for breakfast. The last two times the food was just ok. The prices are on the high side for these type of items. Seems to be as expensive as Ihop? Lots of old people here, maybe because of the nursing home?
