A trip to Pirate's Landing is basically a must for my partner and me anytime we're in Port Isabel. It's his favorite fishing spot, and honestly, it's become one of my favorite little traditions too even though I don't like fishing, I go for my man! There's a long pier you can walk out on to fish, and we usually catch red drum, hardhead catfish, and sometimes even crabs. Most of the time the fish are too small to keep, so we throw them back, but it's still such a relaxing and enjoyable experience. It's less about what we catch and more about spending time together. I really appreciate the setup. There are picnic tables and chairs where you can sit and hang out, which makes it easy to spend a few hours comfortably. There's a convenience store stocked with fishing gear, a concession stand (which I still need to try!), and even a fried chicken spot nearby if you want something quick to eat. Plus public restrooms, which is always a huge win when you're out all day. They also have a great restaurant and bar, so whether you're there to fish, grab a bite, or just relax by the water, you really have everything in one place. I've been here more times than I can count, and it's always part of our plans when we head to SPI. It's just the best place to go. Keep in mind that you have to pay for every fishing pole that you bring in. You also have to pay to be a spectator. read more

Stopped on the way out of South Padre Island for an early lunch. The restaurant is so fun and full of photo ops. Great location cute shops nearby. The restaurant had live music. And the soccer game going on. The staff was friendly and attentive. There was quite a wait for our food. But we had appetizers to keep us company while we waited! The portion size was pretty decent. I had the shrimp Poboy, which could've easily fed two people. I like that it was on homemade bread. We will definitely be back to try some libations and more nom noms! I loved everything about this place! The service, the food, the atmosphere! We had a large group and we walked in and were sat rather quickly. We had multiple servers and they were attentive and friendly. The food was quite good and the portions generous. The coconut shrimp was crispy and the pineapple dipping sauce was on point. Our leftovers held until the next day. You get a beautiful view of the lighthouse and outside there is a gorgeous view of the ocean, South Padre Island and the Queen Isabella bridge. Food was absolutely terrible, I lost my appetite first when I drank the water It tasted like I was drinking dirt water , order 2 apps the crab cakes an the ceviche the crab cakes tasted like freeze burn the ceviche was so dry no sauce no flavor . We had fish tacos that were amazing and the most amazing was the maple bacon wrapped shrimp, it was to die for. What a great place with a great view if you get a seat by the window. They also have outside seating if you don't mind the birds coming up to you, lol. I also saw a very large round table for good size groups. I have ate her twice and I've had delicious meals both times. The first time I ordered the southwest chicken sandwich with waffle fries. The waffle fries were delicious and there were a lot of them! The sandwich was also delicious and served on homemade bread. It was a grilled chicken breast, Swiss cheese, a big slice of honey ham, mayonnaise, and homemade salsa. It also had lettuce and tomato on it. This was a huge sandwich so you better bring your appetite! My friend ordered the blackened shrimp tacos, and said it was the best she's ever had. The second time I opted to get the lunch special, which was waffle fries and a half of the Caribbean chicken sandwich. This was fried chicken breast and it was huge! It had grilled pineapple bacon and Swiss cheese on it with a Caribbean sauce. I would definitely order this again as well. You sure can't beat this meal for $9.99. They have early bird specials Monday through Sunday 2 to 6 PM. They also have happy hour specials during that same time where a margarita is only $3 and a beer is only $2. Bonus! Both times that we were there for lunch they had live music plan. The staff was wonderful and quick to serve us and everything was delicious. Pirate's Landing at Port Isabel is one of our regular dining locations when we visit South Padre Island. The food is always good and the wait staff is very friendly. This restaurant has a large menu with daily specials. We tried the Southwest Chicken Sandwich with waffle fries because it was a daily special. It's good, but I prefer the fried Chicken Breast Samich. The chicken and ham on the Southwest Chicken Sandwich is skewered with long wooden picks which I learned was to keep the food in place.The large slice of chicken with the ham kept sliding off the bun. It does have a nice salsa dressing. The Chicken Breast Samich includes crispy fresh lettuce, a large slice of tomato and pickles on a toasted bun with waffle fries. Very tasty. My dining companion had the fried red fish with waffle fries. This is a large portion of friend red fish. Also very tasty. We had A a very friendly waiter both times that we were there. This is a very large restaurant with a lot of people coming and going. Live music is provided every day from 3pm to 6pm. A nice selection of cocktails. I recommend the Key Lime Pina colada. I was very pleased to see that the restaurant allowed a man to sit in the outside area with his dog. It was a cold windy day and I worried about them sitting in that wind. The manager allowed the man and his k9 companion to dine inside the restaurant. They sat on the north side away from most diners, but I congratulate the manager for allowing a customer to be comfortable while enjoying the food. His dogfriend was a charmer. But what was worst was Waitress never checked for refills of our drinks or asked if we needed anything. Really nice seafood restaurant on the bay. My wife and I were here on a Friday evening for dinner. Were seated right away next to lg. glass window with a spectacular view of the bay. Oscar was our server and quickly took our drink order. In under 5 min. We had our drinks and Oscar took our dinner order. My wife wanted their Crab Louie and I ordered a 1/2 pound of peel and eat shrimp for our appetizer and the Red Fish Rockefeller for my entree. Our order was ready in under 10 min. And looked delicious and they were. My Red Fish with Rockefeller sauce was amazing and the vegetables were done well. My wife's Crab Louie had plenty of crab meat which she shared with me. This is a kid friendly restaurant, prices aren't bad at all. Casual ambiance. Right next to a long boardwalk and pier which was a good little walk w the kiddos. Our food was average. My husband enjoyed his flounder with Pontchartrain sauce, this is a creamy sauce w shrimp in it. I had a shrimp dish which had a salsa type sauce in it. While the portion size was generous, it really wasn't my favorite. Felt the sauce was just lacking and heavily tomato tasting. Service was good. Husband had their regular house sangria and this was actually disgusting. It tasted exactly like cough syrup with ice in it, like you couldn't tell a difference. I had the mango sangria and this was fortunately better, on the sweeter side but tolerable. As this seems a touristy place they do have a photographer who comes around and offers to take your picture, you get 1 for free and then pay 20$ for each postcard which they make afterwards if you want. This place was a longtime family favorite years ago, so we were excited to revisit after moving away. Unfortunately, we were disappointed with the overall food quality. I ordered the yellowfin tuna, which was supposed to be sashimi-grade and served rare, but it came out fully cooked and tasted more like standard ahi tuna. The other orders were stuffed mushrooms as the appetizer, coconut shrimp fried fish, shrimp and oysters and grilled salmon. All entres were ok but not great. While in town for work, some colleagues and I decided to grab lunch. Not a lot of choices in Port Isabel, so one colleague suggested Pirate's Landing. Said colleague said she frequented this place while in town on other ventures, so we all decided to give it a try. We all strolled right in. Very festive coastal themed area, well kept looking restaurant. A look that probably appeals to tourists. We all were seated promptly, and presented menus. Our drink orders were taken and we were left to peruse the menu. Our drinks came in decent time, along with some honey drizzled rolls that were pretty tasty. Only one person, so it was just enough. They were pretty tasty, and wish more were offered. Looking at the menu, it was quite busy. Meaning there were too many things to choose from, and the organization and flow of the menu was a tad confusing. I was in the mood for fried shrimp, but their menu did not have it on there. Or, I missed it. I opted to go with the bacon wrapped shrimp. Shrimp wrapped in bacon, jalapeño, and cream cheese on top of a bed of rice. Also on the shrimp was some sort of raspberry glaze. I chose fries, and a salad as my side. Having second thoughts about the salad. I changed it up and got fries and onion fries. I wasn't really hungry for two sides anyhow, so I was not really concerned with the second side. I'm also picky about my salad and did not know about the freshness of the salad. After a long wait, our food arrived. My plate was presented just like the menu. Busy. This was to be expected, so not a biggie. Time to dive in. While planning my method of attack, I tried the fries. A crisp, well seasoned waffle fry. Delicious. Then an onion fry. Bad mistake. Soggy, limp, and bland. Eh, no harm. I should have stuck with the salad. Now, for the star of the plate, the bacon wrapped shrimp. First bite into the shrimp in. The bacon was chewy, the cream cheese sweet, then the burn of the jalapeño. I was waiting for the taste of the shrimp, but it never came. I saw shrimp in there, but my mouth was too on fire to catch the taste of the shrimp. I reached for my drink to douse the flames of the jalapeños. I ate about three more of them, and had the same results. I threw in the towel and gave the remaining three to my colleagues. All of them agreed the jalapeños packed quite the punch. Overall, I was quite underwhelmed by my dish. That is to say that it was not bad, I just had higher expectations for a $21plate. I also expected the shrimp to be more well balanced between sweet, spicy, and delicious. I have had bacon wrapped shrimp before that did not light my mouth on fire, like this one did. Maybe they forgot to remove the seeds? Not sure. But, overall, not bad. Just underwhelming. Also, feed the onion fries to the sea gulls. I do not regret my choice to come eat here, but I cannot say I will be back. The service was great, the food was just blah. This to me was a one and done type place. We've been here two times this year and the food has been excellent. I had the jalapeño stuffed shrimp. Oh me oh my, how good it is! They had a Mariachi band there today that we really enjoyed. So, it's been about 3 years since we quit coming here due to bad service and average at best food. We decided to give it another shot. Nope. Still bad. We came at 4:30 and got seated after a short wait. No problem. Our server was personable and clearly trying hard but had too many tables. We got our drinks (sodas and water) and orders chips and queso and fried pickles. We got the biscuits - which are amazing- and by far the highlight of the night. The queso came pretty quickly. The fried pickles took another 30 minutes to arrive and then they tasted like they had been soaked in salt water for a few years - almost inedible and certainly not like most fried pickles were order. We ordered a second chips and queso - it never did come. Our entrees literally took 1:15 from the time we were seated - totally unacceptable. Several of us orders the shrimp plates with various types of shrimp and they were soggy and had obviously been sitting somewhere for awhile. They 'forgot' two orders and had to bring them later; got several sides wrong. My granddaughter ordered a baked potato with her meal and - after it took 1:15 to get our food, they said the baked potato wasn't ready! . It just was pretty much a disaster after the biscuits. We have now formally written this place off - permanently and for good. We were hopeful that the passage of time improved them but sadly that was not the case. read more
