They sat us at the far corner of the restaurant by the window and it was very hot there. It was so hot in there I was sweating a bit. The food itself is ok. 2/5. The hot sauce was the only thing I really liked. Also didn't realize the tacos are almost $20 each. I'm ok with paying good money for food but these aren't worth what they charge. And the prices aren't on the menu for a reason. More disappointed than anything with the whole experience. Definitely will not return here.

The woman who opened the door (who turned out to be our server) seemed bothered she had to open it. There were no prices on the menu so we braced ourselves. My husband asked why there were no prices on the menu and the server simply advised there were no prices on the menu. We ordered coffee and water only to have our server tell us they only had bottled water ($). When she brought our drinks, she also brought a small bowl of animal crackers??? (There were no children with us). It was disappointing to have the coffee served in melamine cups AND wasn't very good. My husband ordered a plate which came with eggs, ham, 2 biscuits, and hash browns; I ordered the oatmeal with toast. It took a long while for our orders to arrive yet there was only one other couple in the restaurant (who had a different server than us). The 2 biscuits on my husband's plate looked as though they had taken 1 biscuit and split in half. He said the ham tasted like Spam and the hash browns were greasy. The eggs were okay. My oatmeal was okay. To their credit, it did come with raisins, pecans, cinnamon, and butter on the side. Neither our server nor the other one working were very friendly which didn't help make the food taste any better. The sign said this is Doña Carmen #4; maybe 1-3 are good.

We did have to wait a few minutes to be seated, and weren't sure why we weren't given menus. But we saw signs indicating to order at the back counter. The food took about 10-15 minutes to come out, but it was warm and delicious. My husband got the blacked mahi sandwich, I got the Iron Skillet Shrimp (pictured) and a Turbo Pelican Colada. Everything was delicious! The iron skillet came with 8 huge shrimp and I opted for garlic butter, which gave a dipping sauce. The fries were HUGE! Our kids loved the fries, burger and hot dogs that they ordered. The drink I ordered was strong and tasty, the toasted coconut was the icing on the cake. The drink came with a beautiful drink decoration, which my kids found cool to play with. We would visit again and plan on it.

It has become one of our favorite places to eat on South Padre Island. One of my favorite things is how genuinely pet-friendly they are. They even have a dog menu, so our dachshund, PeeWee, gets to enjoy lunch with us too. It's refreshing to find a restaurant that truly welcomes the whole family, including four-legged family members. After watching the KRGV Take 5 segment, I loved learning that the new owners were the cooks before taking over the restaurant. You can absolutely tell they know what they're doing. The quality of the food, the consistency, and the atmosphere have all been elevated under the new ownership while still keeping the laid-back island vibe. If you're looking for great food, excellent service, reasonable prices, and a place where everyone--including your dog--is welcome, Mahi Nic is the place to go. We'll definitely be back again and again with PeeWee and the rest of our family and friends. Highly recommend!

We opted for a few small tacos and a few large. Small is still BIG!! Barbacoa was delicious. The cheese used was more Velvetta like, but still not overwhelming or too rich. We will be back, hopefully to sit down and eat there.

Trying new places in the area around SPI - 2 of 2…read more I haven't been to SPI and the Rio Grande Valley that often, but I've eaten at several of the casual eateries on the island and in Port Isabel. If wanting a reasonably priced and filling Mexican breakfast, it used to be Isabel's and Manuel's. Isabel's was much to my liking but I wanted to try somewhere new. Manuel's closed and it has supposedly reopened somewhere else. I'm not going to ask, "Mexiquito ... where have you been all my life?" I thought it was new(er), but was assured it had been there a long time. I didn't make it in for breakfast, but I did make it in for lunch. Inside, it is very different from Isabel's, where they have plainer walls, a lower ceiling, and fluorescent lighting. Mexiquito has the darker woodwork, the green and red colors found on the flag of Mexico, and dimmer illumination that some Mexican locales have. Mexiquito is right on the main drag, so I've obviously driven past it on previous visits to the area. I had one of the combination platters with rice and refried beans. I asked for chicken as the filling for my items inside tortillas. Remember that, if you don't specify the filling, it may default to ground beef. The platter was plentiful and it was fairly tasty. They also bring on the chips and salsa. I had a cup of coffee and a glass of ice water. It's good that I asked for the ice water. Normally, it's to cool down from the coffee. Here, they only feature one type of salsa and it was too hot for my taste. Another reviewer mentions it, so I think I'm on track. I was not going to go with 5 stars to begin with, but only offering that one type of salsa with that much kick doesn't make me a fan. Dial it down a little to something more "middle of the road." Otherwise, if you like spicier salsa, Mexiquito is a reliable eatery with friendly personnel and fair prices.
