What a phenomenal find in the middle of nowhere just north of the Florida Georgia line from Hilliard FL. Family style restaurant with Americana clientele and 100% Spanish speaking staff. You can't go wrong. Chips and salsa were devine. The guac is to die for and my shrimp fajitas was the ultimate fajita. The fifth star is because in a dry town this is the only place allowed to serve margaritas. And they were deliscious. If you are nearby, go here. read more

Love to eat at local restaurant's. In town for a few days and came here for dinner. Very clean and the staff were on the ball. Hustling around making sure everything was done. We ordered and the food came quickly. A la carte chicken tacos and a chicken quesadilla. The chicken was very flavorful and moist. I think it's the best quesadilla I've ever had. When the most positive thing I can say is the colorful curtains were really pretty in the afternoon sun, that tells much. This was probably the worst "Mexican" food I've ever had. I'll get to that later but let's start with the good things: The food came quickly, it was cheap, and the waitress was nice. That's it. Based on food alone this is 1 star. But I did finish the meal so considering the few positives it barely earns a 2nd. Complimentary chips and salsa were provided. The chips were warm and were ok but the salsa resembled nothing more than canned crushed tomatoes in flavor and texture, albeit with a little heat added; no detectable spices. For entree I chose the Guanajuato: a steak and shrimp combo with fried onions, cojita cheese. There really wasn't much else to it. Absolutely nothing to suggest "Mexican": no spice whatsoever. Just fried minute steaks, seasoned with salt and (perhaps) pepper, lots of fried onions, and the sautéed shrimps. The steak was a bit tough in spite of the thinness, being overcooked. The shrimp was better: they were medium-sized, tasted fresh, and were cooked correctly. And the onions were fried to tender, browned but not to the point of caramelized. The portion was adequate. But just no flavor. Maybe I should have gone with a standard Tex-Mex item? I wanted something to add some flavor so I asked if they had any hot sauces. A bottle of a common brand was brought over - after I had finished most of the plate! They were not that busy so there was no excuse. Served with refried beans and rice on the side. Neither were memorable. It also came with a "salad". In quotes because it was not. What it was was iceberg lettuce shredded as if by a cheese grater, a single thin tomato slice, some cojita, guacamole, and a dollop of sour cream that was almost as big as the entire quantity of vegetables. No dressing or other flavors. I attempted to remove the sour cream and ate the rest, seasoned as best I could with salt and pepper. I couldn't even have a drink because it was Sunday. I learned that Folkston has backward blue laws stricter even than the state of Georgia. The staff were all speaking Spanish and appeared to be Hispanic. But not one of the customers. The room was about half full with diners I took to be locals; all of them families with young children. It's a popular place apparently, but unless they dine elsewhere on occasion they will never discover what true Mexican food is like. read more

Recently moved to Hilliard from Jax beach area. This is the closest authentic Mexican restaurant that has margs with tequila (no liquor license for most places near us). Another employee (maybe owner or manager) came to table to assist with the order. They just were not accommodating. Very stern. I ordered a Crown and diet, needless to say, there was a little confusion but on the plus side, it was quite tall and $5.99. To be fair they were clear that tequila was readily available. When I first saw this, I was almost reluctant to give this a try, because Mexican food in a rural area just does not equate. That is until somebody reminded me that Floridians and Georgians make some of the best Mexican food outside of Texas, California, and the other southwestern states. Lo and behold it was really good. I got the burrito grande and it was plentiful in every aspect. Cheese, meat, vegetables, guacamole, it was all delicious. It reminded me of what I once had when staying in Florida. Even the salsa with the chips had a nice bite! I liked and I was happy. Even better if you can speak Spanish to the staff. That just helps you get better food, and better service. read more

We live in Callahan and everyone keeps talking about Los 3 Mariachis so we made the 25 minute drive and it was worth it!! My husband took our son Friday night and got a seat right away. The service and food was perfect so much so that he brought the entire family back Sunday for us to try it out. I highly recommend their chicken, it was AMAZING! I got the cheezee chicken, YUMMM! My husband got the steak quesadillas and had soooo much meat. My mom is a vegetarian and got the veggie fajitas! She's been eating on it for days she got so much and it was delish! Delicious tacos, authentic and nice service. So unexpected, but we ate here after paddling on the Okefenokee swamp for most of the day. I had the tacos al pastor, which were three pineapple marinated chopped pork tacos on corn tortillas. They were the best al pastor tacos I've ever had. Tortillas were delicious, pork was tender and sweet. Hubby had steak tacos and they were also very good. We ordered Mexican rice on the side and margaritas. Everything was great. Just go! read more

They serve tasty authentic Mexican food. We usually eat here when we are in town and it has been consistently good. They have a pretty extensive menu that covers all the normal favorites - enchiladas, burritos, tacos, fajitas, quesadillas and nachos. My tip for going to a new Mexican place is to eat whatever they list first under their specials - unless they list them alphabetically. In this case it is the enchiladas and they are good. I ordered the supreme and that covers one cheese, one bean, one beef and one shredded chicken enchilada. These are really delicious when you mix them all together. We also get the chorizo queso. It is white queso with diced up chorizo and it is good with their warm chips. They have chips and salsa at the table and I like that the salsa has a little kick/spice to it. Keep in mind, if you think ketchup is spicy you'll want to stick to the guacamole instead of the salsa. The service is quick and the ladies that work here are really friendly and attentive. As I said, we've eaten here a few times and I've enjoyed the burritos, enchiladas and fajita nachos. If you like authentic Mexican food you will likely find something you like here. Where do I even start? My first and last time here. The chips were served cold. The queso was served lukewarm. The salsa was a redeeming quality. Excellent. My meal came out quickly, a plus! I had soft beef tacos. Not enough cheese on them. Thankfully, I had queso, so that I could pour it on the tacos to get cheese on them. Greasy. AVOID -Visited this restaurant a year ago when they opened & the food was decent for a small town. Returned for lunch a few months ago & the enchilada plate was served dry & cold. Meat inside was cold, beans were cold. No sauce inside the enchiladas. Ate very little, informed the waitress, then she brought the check. Tried it a 3rd time for a take-out order. Went inside to order a simple burrito w/no veggies inside. Waitress insisted I order the burrito supreme which had several ingredients I did not want. I told her firmly what I didn't & did want inside my burrito. Once I got home w/my $10+ burrito, it was loaded with onions & peppers & very little meat (I basically wanted a bean, cheese & chicken burrito).
