Was in the area and was hungry for a quick slice. Price was $3.50 which isn't bad but was one of the worst slices I've ever had. I sat down and after my very first bite, I wanted to throw it away. They had trash right by the door, but I didn't want them to get offended, so I found a random trashcan outside on the way to the car to dispose of the garbage that they called Pizza. Hardly any sauce and the smallest amount of cheese I've ever seen. The other thing I noticed was that the pizza was very uneven towards the crust. It was super bread maybe about an inch and throughout the slice the thickness varied. Regardless I'll put this on my list of places never to step foot in. read more

"Oh yeah....Hold on, I'm thinking of Lazaro's on South Street. I'm confused." And so we set out to try them all on a pizza crawl. We shared a cheese slice at each stop in order to pace ourselves. Lorenzo's was our last stop. I don't think I'd ever had their pizza before. After the gargantuan slices oozing with cheese at the other two places, Lorenzo's slice was aesthetically the least impressive. The slice was a reasonable portion--I can't call it small--and was just $2.50. (An XL 18" pie is only $14.) But what it lacked in looks this slice made up for in flavor. We both liked it best of the three. The sauce was the secret weapon. I found something comforting and familiar about it. It wasn't sweet and had more tomato flavor. You could also see the herbs and spices on the slice, which improved the flavor. The crust was a bit thicker than the others but was crispy and good. read more

The first time I ate at Lorenzo's was because there was a crazy long wait at Angelo's a few blocks down. They offered similar food without the crazy wait and since I walked about 40 minutes to the Italian Market area I wasn't leaving without something to eat. Preferably a cheesesteak. I actually ended up getting a regular and a chicken cheesesteak. I must say I've had cheesesteaks at several places in the Philly area. Lorenzo's is the only one I keep coming back to. Not only is their steak delicious with your choice of toppings, of which I tend to keep it simple with just some friend onions. It's all well seasoned and it's crazy affordable. I returned just last week and got a chicken cheesteak with pepperoni, which adds that little extra "umpf" to an already delicious meal but the service is usually quick as well. There's seating indoors but I normally just order at the window and take my food to go. I don't need anything fancy just some good food. And Lorenzo's is it for me! read more

Not impressed with the pizza here. Dough was raw, the pizza bland, it was thrown on two plates and called a day. There was no love in the slices, just staring blankly waiting to be consumed like a man on death row waiting for his execution. Just get it over with already. The only reason it gets two stars is because the cashier was nice and honest and said Lorenzo's on South St has bigger and somewhat better slices. Actually thought I already reviewed this place and very surprised to find out I haven't. For starters: this is NOT TO BE CONFUSED with the Lorenzo's on South Street. If you call to place an order, they'll remind you of that, "Lorenzo's on 9TH AND CHRISTIAN." I love it. With that said, it's not Lorenzo's big ass slices, buttery crust, and sweet sauce, but then again, what is? I'm also not trekking up to 3rd and South, so this is where Lorenzo's on 9TH AND CHRISTIAN comes in handy for my solid, tried and true Friday night pizza takeout. I've both called ahead and ordered at the takeout window and staff has always been friendly. Pizza is good, thin crust, nice balance of sauce and cheese. Fries and cheesesteaks are also good. One of those "you can't go wrong" joints. (P.S.: Now that I'm here, I just have to get off my chest that over my Christmas break in college during the Winter of 2008, my mom came to visit me where I lived at the time, 17th & Christian, and we ordered from this Lorenzo's for delivery. I love the sauce and crust here, and they have all of the crushed pepper, garlic, parm, and salt/pepper sitting on the counters so you can customize your slice that way. Boxes cost 50 cents if you want to take your slice out, or the slice comes on two paper plates for you to eat right away. Impression: After shopping around Italian Market and was about to hop my Uber back home, I decided to try my first Philly and what better place than at an Italian joint that specialized in strombolis, Phillies, and sandwiches, and pizzas here! Not to mention, they were ranked top 10 Philly sandwiches in Philadelphia, so I was sold! Philly Cheese Steak: For 7$ I got myself a roughly foot long Philly and it was certainly very good. They make the beef straight on the grill so the flavors are fresh and not too oily as if though it's overnight stuff they just heated up. The cheesesteak was not too oily and was appropriate in terms of amount of cheese and beef. It was large for me, so I recommend splitting it with someone if you're not too hungry or don't want to end up feeling too full and uncomfortable from this amazing meat and bread concoction. I think a beer or cold coke would have gone nicely with this sandwich. Pizza: if you have a large party then I recommend their extra large pizzas that are almost 18 inches in diameter and are hand thrown and made. IT's one of those thin crust places- I don't recommend getting the cheese pizza bc it looked a little bland but go for their fun toppings like anchovies, tomatoes, olives, etc- very Italian choices to have to cap off your Italian Market Experience Again, like everything else in Italian Market, they only accept cash, so bring cash if you come out to Italian Market. read more

They have a small few seat dining area, a few tables outside and a walk up window. The staff was ok, not friendly but not rude. We ordered a cheese slice and a cheesesteak. The cheesesteak was delicious. The bread had a crispy exterior, the meat was seasoned well and had great flavor. The whole sandwich had a great ratio of meat to bread. We ordered 3 cheese steaks at 3 places: Lorenzo's, Geno's and Pat's King of Cheesesteaks, all found in Philly's Italian section. Geno's and Pat's lures you in with lots of neon light and later we would see lots of advertising. Buyer beware...advertising and flashy lights does not mean it is great. Lorenzos was a corner family type store and we thought their cheese steaks won that evening. In fact, we went to Jim's later in our trip and I am of the opinion that Lorenzo's won hands down over all! We did not try their pizza. But the cheese steak was awesome! read more

This is very decent pizza for the price you pay! If you don't like it thin, I believe they also serve a a thicker Sicilian slice. I've had their pizza as a kid when I lived nearby (13 years ago maybe?) and it was kind of part of childhood with my best friend at the time. After music class at Mister John's a few doors down, I took my baby to grab a slice. I don't regret it, since their sauce is slightly sweet and the pizza itself isn't heavy! I have purchased the Italian hoagie twice from Lorenzo's while walking through the neighborhood after visiting the music shop nearby. The hoagies were excellent. I skipped the peppers the first time but added the sweet peppers the second. Good move as these added to the flavors. Fresh veggies, quality meats and a tasty bun makes for a great sandwich. The cheese steak is classic Philly with perfect bread, juicy steak, and the appropriate cheese options, which are generously applied. Don't skip out on a slice of pizza while there as well because it's amazing. The crust has the perfect chew and the toppings always seem to be in the perfect ratio. Lorenzo's makes a cheap ass halfway decent pizza pie. A small is $6 and comes with 8 smallish slices. The crust is crisp, and the cheese level is spot on, the sauce has a good flavor but is a tad sweet and is missing that coagulation with the cheese that in my opinion can only be found in New York... but really though, very worth picking up. I have had far more abysmal slices in this city; this pizza was fully enjoyable. They serve battered broccoli, which I would be interested in trying on a later date. BEST LATE NIGHT PIZZA EVER. Hands down. I can't believe I haven't written a review of Lorenzo's until now. This place has the largest slices of pizza in the city and they are heavenly. They have the right balance of sauce and cheese and their dough is amazing. Their pizza is definitely not gourmet but rather what my brother's friends like to call "Friday Night Pizza"...in other words, it's semi-greasy and NYC style pizza. An entire pie is $25 but they package it in two regular size pizza boxes because they are so large. An entire pie can feed 6 hungry adults. I love going here late at night for a post-bar snack. They are open super late and the slices at 3am taste just as good as the ones you get at 8pm. They are consistently fast, courteous, and sometimes even friendly. Cheesesteak with Mushrooms Was told the wait was going to be 10minutes but after checking what time I checked in on Yelp, the wait was 35minutes. I would've left but I was also getting food for someone else. The cook used his bare hands which was touching meat to grab fries to put into the fryer and then used the same hands to take it out some fries and put it back into the bag... what if I was allergic to meat or onions that you've touched?? This place is unsanitary with the cook not washing his hands or not putting gloves on after touching rare meat. Got it for take out. Took it home with my friends and we began to eat. The meat was dried out that I had to chew it in my mouth for a long period of time and the french fries are clearly not real potatoes and was tasteless. --- WHY I BROUGHT IT DOWN -4STARS -1STAR because the meat was dry. -1STAR because of touching rare meat and not washing hands. -1STAR lied about wait time from 10minutes to being 35minutes. -1STAR fries had no sort of taste or real potato taste. --- Only good thing about this place was the cashier being very pleasant taking my order.
