    The tasting menu
    Karen Z.

Went to celebrate friends birthday, they almost forgot to send us the complimentary cake at the end :( we asked our waiter whether there is a cake and he said no. Later we saw another table eating a cake with candle on it and asked again (a different person, seems to be the manager) and he said cake is coming. A little disappointing. The dishes are very creative, my personal highlights are the eggplant and the last dessert with honey on top. The steak is also good, but a bit too hard to chew. With 1800 peso and relatively easy to get a table I'd say it's worth the price! Cocktails are all really good. My group tried almost all the drinks on the menu and they were all really good. I especially liked Yellow Bird, is very fruity and refreshing. Waiter all speak understandable English. One note about tipping - in my previous research, for some reason I saw 10% is a very reasonable %. However, I later learned that 20% (or closer to 20%) would be more appropriate for fine dinning, but it was too late for us to go back :( I think the service is definitely beyond average and the waiters were all very patient in explaining the dishes and ingredients to us.

I came across Lorea when looking up places to eat in Mexico City. I think there are some good things about this place for sure. The ambiance and decor are really chill. The cocktails were actually very delicious. For food, we opted to not do the tasting menu and started with the Huitlacoche Quesadilla Soup which was delicious. The roasted Leek was our other starter which was unique but very good as well. The sauce and Parmesan cheese all made for very delicious bites. The house made bread with butter was also very tasty. The issues I had with our meal were two fold. First was our entrees. My wife had the pastrami which she mentioned was way over salted. Keep in mind she tends to enjoy saltier flavors so her saying that was surprising. I got the Huitlacoche Tacos which were just ok, not as good as the soup. The second issue was service related. Granted we didn't choose the tasting menu but it felt like we were an afterthought, and initially there were only a few folks there. Also, every time our water was filled, they just, didn't fill it enough. We had to keep asking for a normal amount of water which I thought was odd. Plus the table next to us was getting normal water refills.

This was fabulous, as this was the best service, food and pairing of wine ever! We had our 31st anniversary here and they treated us like royalty. The 8 or so course tasting menu with wine is so worth it! Loved the ambiance as well. Next time will sit at the bar area to watch the very accomplished cooks do their work. I was so happy that after my reservation I go a personal email from the staff asking if there were any special requests, so I asked for an English menu and servers who spoke English. The menu also had Happy Anniversary on the top.

What a beautiful experience- not just a great meal or great service but an artful experience filled with intuitive service, thoughtful dishes and meaningful combination of each through each dish. The total experience starts with all the steps that let you know Lorea is waiting for you. After making the reservation but before the dinner, I received an email to determine what type of experience I would like (e.g. service in English or Spanish, tasting or any dietary restrictions or preferences). When you arrive at Lorea, it feels like an entire family has been waiting to greet you- specifically and with eager hospitality. This is the type of service one even hopes to receive at many of the Michelin star restaurants I've frequented at the point at which great restaurants simply miss the mark. Lorea stands out in not just meeting expectations, but exceeding them at every turn. The first bites are some of the best bites I've had- and I've had the pleasure of eating at great restaurants all around the world. Chef Ulises is amazing and so is the rest of the team. They work in total harmony, sharing the story of each dish (not just the name and/or ingredients). This was my second or third visit to Lorea and I make it a point to go now each time I'm in Mexico City. This time, it was my first stop for dinner. I am so grateful to the team there who makes me and so many others feel welcomed, and then gives such an artful food experience. I would recommend single diners, couples or groups. The ambience is nice, the volume of the restaurant is usually low with diners in amazement at each dish. I prefer to sit at the chef's bar top to watch how meticulously they prepare the dishes and to watch the team at work. It's always great to see how much detail they put into everything and how well they work alongside each other. The calmness yet urgency with which they work demonstrates the order, talent and skill they possess. What comes out are some of best dishes anywhere!

A return trip to what has become our favorite restaurant in Mexico City. Trust chef Oswaldo Oliva and his team to sweep you away with their amazing tasting menu. Take their advice on the drinks (for us cocktails, Spanish rosé, Mexican red, Tokay). Splurge on the additional truffle course. Marvel at the last morsel offered -- and I'm not telling what it is. Such a pity that we have to jump on a plane to get here.

Our first dinner in Mexico City! My flight arrived late and we managed to get a reservation at 9:30pm. We took an Uber to the location, it is a safe area. You will see the bright sign next to the door. So you ring the doorbell and someone will come get you. Pretty cool. We were seated next to the open kitchen. Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the drinks and menu. He was very friendly. First he presented us a box with a little story about the place. Then we received our set menu, 14 delicious dishes. Wow I am truly amazed with all their food from grilled steak sirloin with potatoes to soft shell crab and honey frozen yogurt. Everything was tender and perfect. We ordered a bottle of red wine. The dessert part was very cool because we got to meet the chef at the kitchen. He explained to us about how the dessert was made, I do not remember the whole story but it was super tasty. In the end the whole experience was spectacular! I accidentally ordered a bottle of wine which cost us more than our entire meal. Oops.

Truly a highlight of our trip to CDMX. We sat at the chef's counter and loved watching them work, and being able to speak with the staff. The service was impeccable, and the tasting menu was one exquisite flavor after another, the fish dishes were in particular sublime. Great price point for what it was, and we would definitely come back again soon!

It was best suckling pig dish we've ever had, and probably the single best taco of our week long food tour of CDMX.

We then kicked things off with the arancini, which set the tone right away--crispy, flavorful, and perfectly done. For mains, we shared a spread and honestly couldn't pick a favorite: the Octopus Tacos were tender and packed with flavor, the Rabbit Tacos were unique and delicious, and the roasted seasonal vegetables "al mojo de ajo" were simple but so satisfying. The marinated pan-fried salmon and fresh trout were both beautifully cooked and thoughtfully seasoned. Every dish felt intentional, beautifully presented and well executed. But the real showstoppers were the desserts. The fresh goat cheesecake with orange, grapefruit, and lemon was bright and perfectly balanced, and the whisky chocolate crème brûlée was rich, smooth, and unforgettable. Desserts truly knocked it out of the park. Bonus points for the cocktails--my hubby was a huge fan. Great food, great drinks, excellent service and relaxed ambiance made for a wonderful overall experience. Highly recommend adding Temporal to your Mexico City dining list.

What really says it all? We loved it so much, we went back the very next day. This was the only restaurant we repeated during our week-long stay, which should tell you everything. The menu is extensive and thoughtfully curated--fresh, flavorful, and something for everyone. We tried the croissant sandwich, salmon deli nut sandwich, chutney mango deli sandwich, santos ahogados, fig chipotle deli sandwich, pear honey deli sandwich, and the spicy tuna deli sandwich. The sandwiches came with a standard simple salad. Every single item was delicious, well-balanced, and satisfying in that "clean but filling" way. The tables had two delicious spicy chili oil like condiments which elevated each of these dishes. And the juices--WOW. So refreshing, vibrant, and clearly made with high-quality ingredients. The perfect complement to the food and ideal for starting (or resetting) your day. If you're visiting Mexico City, Ojo de Agua is an absolute must. With such a wide menu, you're guaranteed to find something you'll love--and very likely come back for more. Highly recommend!

We tried a few juices, the chicken tomato salad and the salmon tacos. The salad was huge with a big portion of chicken, avocado and many toppings for a reasonable price. It seems like this place can get super packed and busy, which I would think is a good sign!

Served with flour tortillas (which are refillable) and black bean dip, you'll be instructed how to compose perfect bites. Then, choose your own adventure! We also had both the 4 piece each shrimp tostadas and tuna tostadas. Radically different so getting both doesn't duplicate. The pasta (spaghettini) with clams was buttery and garlicky and the pasta was surprisingly not overcooked. Biggest surprise was the grilled soft shell crabs (with corn tortillas). They came pre cut then reassembled so it was easy to pick them up and pop them in your mouth. The grill flavor was fantastic and we were all impressed. We finished with a slice of coconut cake which was like a caramel coated macaroon. Perfect! Large wine list by the glass and bottle, many cocktails, sangria and beer to choose from. Definitely a place to visit when in Mexico City. Sorry for the lack of photos-- we forgot because we dove into each dish (we were hungry and they looked so good)! Got one good one though...
