Excellent food - One of my favorite meals in Mexico City! Meroma is listed in the Michelin Guide, which didn't really matter to my dinner guests but I was excited to try Meroma. Started with the foie gras - great pairing with the walnut bread; zucchini flowers in tempura batter; steak tartar; sourdough bread with chili butter; romaine lettuce salad ( a little over dressed). Main entrees were the Mahi Mahi, pork tenderloin (excellent), mushroom pasta. Birthday celebration for one of the guests and was served the dessert - cinnamon crisp with whipped cream. We stayed in an Airbnb that was literally next to Meroma so were frequent visitors during our 5 night stay for cocktails only. The bar has a nice indoor area, along with outdoor seating which we took advantage of due to the wonderful weather. While we only frequented for drinks, they make wonderful craft cocktails and the staff was consistently wonderful. read more

Overrated and caters to an elderly population with no taste. We came for our anniversary and completely regretted the choice. Cocktails took forever to come out and then were a juicy sweet mess. Zucchini blossoms were heavily battered and poorly fried, leaving a soggy oily bite. Same with eggplant focaccia. The lamb mergez pasta was overly buttered and felt like a very heavy adult Mac & Cheese. The catch of the day could have been the saving grace, but too late. Save your money and calories, if you are 40 and under go to Bar Mauro around the corner instead. read more

We never dined at Meroma. We sat at the street level bar drinking cocktails and wine for a couple of hours. Roma Norte has become too trendy and popular. I wanted to enjoy several new cocktail lounges in this hip neighborhood. However, they were all crowded on a Thursday afternoon and had no room for two older gringos. That included Brujas and Tlecan. The street level bar at Meroma is ostensibly the restaurant's bar, where groups await their tables. Yet, we were welcomed by Victor and crew and were treated well. Meroma was probably better than those trendoid joints anyway, and Victor was a master mixologist. My cocktails were great. Meroma was amazing! Every dish was served family style as we had a big party but it was all so fresh and delicious! Every dish also had unique ingredients that I would not normally pair together but it worked out well. Meroma was really delicious and a welcome change from the more traditional Mexican food we'd been eating for every meal during our trip. I had the meroma mule to drink, which was super refreshing! For food, we ordered the baby fried artichoke snack, tomato salad, zucchini starter, and the orecchiette. The pasta was by far my favorite, followed by the zucchini. Both were super textural with unique flavor combinations. I could've easily eaten a second order of the orecchiette! The tomato salad was also good, but it wasn't my favorite. Meroma's interior is very sleek and trendy. That said, the service would be a main area for improvement. The setting on the outdoors upstairs patio was very romantic and entertaining. We thought the service was oddly slow. Maybe there was some language barrier? We ordered four dishes, including the pink shrimp, the pork belly, the fried artichoke, and the agnolotti. our favorites were the agnolotti and the shrimp. The food is also a little pricey for some smaller portions but not to the point where it is a dealbreaker. I took my friend here for his birthday. The food was delicious, but the portions are very small. The trade off is by ordering multiple plates, you get to try a variety of dishes, but it comes at a cost. This place is not cheap, but it was packed by 7 PM on a Wednesday night. I tried to make reservations, but they were booked so we went early and we were the only ones there for the first hour or so starting around 6. Finding it on The Washington Post's By The Way Mexico City guide, I made a reservation online at 5 p.m. on a random July Wednesday for my five-year-old daughter and I. Here's our experience: 1) Food: The menu is organized around small bites, appetizers, mains, and dessert. Since I was with my five-year-old daughter, we got the shishito pepeprs, the celery and fennel salad, roasted wild mushrooms with farro risotto, and trofie with white beef ragu. All were excellent, but my favorite was the celery and fennel salad with torn parsley, mint, pecorino romano, fried pistachios and sherry-dijon vinaigrette. My daughter's favorite was the trofie with white beef ragu. 2) Drinks: They have cocktails, beer, and wine. The sauvignon blanc was delicious and they pour generous portions. 3) Service: From start to end, it was on point. 4) Space: They have a little bar/lounge area, outdoor sidewalk seating and a second floor seating area with balcony seating. I can't say enough good things about Meroma! I came alone on around 3 pm and was immediately seated upstairs. I ordered 3 appetizers - the shrimp focaccia, the carrots and the fish collar. All three were delicious, though my favorites were the focaccia and the fish collar. It was a beautiful, peaceful place to sit and read. At the end, I needed a dessert that was dairy free and one of the owners came out to help arrange a special coconut ice cream without the caramel - delicious! Absolutely recommend. read more

This used to be our go-to for reliably creative and tasty fare when visiting Mexico City, but its sadly gone down hill. The current menu is uninspiring, even the standby dishes do not taste the same and all the wine by the glass selections were rated mediocre (ie Vivino 3.5). Also disappointingly is the service: some old staffers are no more and you need to try hard to flag down a waiter even when there are few diners. We won't be returning. read more

Even though our waiter was super apologetic (and offered us a few appetizers and dessert for free), we had to deal with A LOT of communication issues b/w the staff -- a couple was sat at the table we were offered; our order was taken but never placed; andthe food took 45 minutes to come out; etc. Perhaps I'd recommend coming to eat when they're not too busy! There were lush green trees lining the streets and the vibes were really calming and peaceful. For the food, everything we ordered was presented beautifully. The portions were just right and the flavors well-balanced. The cocktails were also same in presentation and flavors. The servers were very attentive and friendly. One of my more memorable meals. The photo's aren't great, I was on the roof deck and it was dimly lit. Started with the ahi ceviche which was somewhere between ceviche, tartar, and poke. There were flower petals, cilantro, a touch of sweet potato, sesame seeds, and more. The leche de tigre was mild but rich and smooth with a touch of heat. There were interesting flavors I've never tasted before and it all blended together well. I had the catch of the day for the entree and it was Dorado, or Mahi Mahi. The photo looks like a messy salad (I forgot and ate a bit before taking the shot) but don't let that mislead you. The pieces of fish were tightly wrapped in a thin green leaf that was crisp, and the seasoning was perfect. There was citrus, cilantro, avocado, I think a nut cream, and again nice ingredients that I just couldn't name. For desert I chose the plantains with macadamia parfait over chocolate ganache. I don't normally go for sweets but I love plantains, and the parfait was delicious. Some chocolate on the bottom, a little sprinkle of salt, a touch of crisp sweet caramel. The atmosphere was low key but quite nice, the staff was pleasant and attentive, and the presentation of the dishes was graceful and understated. If you like interesting, delicate flavors balanced together in complex dishes, then I would highly recommend Meroma. And I've only tried three things on the menu, which appears to change regularly. read more

The food at meroma is different from al the other high end fresh modern cuisine spots in a much more interesting way. Good portions, balanced flavors, super fresh. A bit pricey but worth the experience! Ambiance is gorgeous in the evening, but I bet it's better with sunlight pouring through the skylight ceiling. Pro tip: start with the alcachofas aka artichokes. My least favorite vegetable served in a way that makes it taste incredible. read more

This was a good meal, but it wasn't quite the 5* experience my friend and I were looking for. I can't quite put my finger on it, but it just wasn't 5* food or 5* service. Don't get me wrong though, we both enjoyed our meal. We started with the steak tartare for 198 pesos (~$10) and for the main course I had the pato al horno for 358 pesos (~$18). Pato al horno is duck, but unfortunately it was duck leg that I was served and not the duck breast I expected. The pictures online led me to believe I was getting duck breast, but I guess the menu changes regularly. Oh well, still a good meal, but not what I was expecting. My fault as I don't speak enough Spanish to inquire before ordering. My buddy got a Mezcal Fresh (150 pesos) which I tasted and thought was pretty good. I wasn't ready to drink, though. Again, a good meal, but our other high end meal blew this one out of the water. Perhaps we just had an off meal, as everyone else seems to give this place 5*. read more

The short: a must-visit restaurant on any trip to Mexico City. Amazingly warm & welcoming staff, next-level food and beautiful ambience. The longer: we came for a weekday dinner on a drizzly night, and this spot was still crowded-- but the vibe is still intimate and personalized. We started our meal with a really interesting, organic Mexican wine, some shishito peppers, and bread with an incredible homemade butter with local chili spices. The beef tartar was stupid delicious; I could've eaten fifteen plates of the agnolotti with mushrooms; and absolutely loved my fish of the day. We tried two desserts - the goat cheese tart and the passion fruit chocolate dessert with coconut sorbet, and ate both of them even though we were totally stuffed. The husband & wife chef duo who own this spot have totally outdone themselves. We appreciated the opportunity to chat with them, learn about their food, hear their stories... and overall, we immensely enjoyed our experience here. I cannot recommend this spot highly enough and can't wait to come back when I'm in Mexico City! read more

They usually only just take reservations to be seated for lunch/dinner, but we decided to just grab some tapas and drinks. We ordered their foie gras, tartare, and mushroom risotto type dish. For drinks, we ordered shots, carajillos, and margaritas. Everything was delicious and refreshing. The staff was super friendly and accomdating. They even took a group picture with us, which was nice. Definitely recommend making reservations to have lunch/dinner here, or at least stop by for some drinks! Though had a confirmed reservation more than a month prior, we're seated on the sidewalk table (very unsteady - wobbly) with tremendous construction noise within 20 yards. Yes at 9 PM. This was because they had a private event booked also in the main dining. The guests on the next table were accommodated in the balcony upstairs halfway through their meal next to the private event. Rest of us three tables were not. Service was slow to start and vanished completely quickly. Uggh. On a positive note - decent cocktails, excellent tasting starters - some of the best flavors and ingredients. Slow roasted lamb in the Mains came out with quite a delay and was cold. Good flavor profile though. It's sad to see owner/management attitude - excellent kitchen, poor customer care. read more
