Richard Lord is very likeable, and fair and honest (which is not really common in my experience at boxing gyms).

I'm halfway to my goal of 150 workouts at Easley this year, and I'm not just happy with the results I see in the mirror or how I feel day to day, I'm happy I've found something that motivates me and challenges me with a community that is supportive and demanding, relaxed but energized, chill but focused. The real deal. This is not a HIIT gym. This is not an indoor…read morecycling studio, or fitness class in a dark room with neon lights. This is a boxing club; but don't get me wrong, it is fun as heck! I struggle keeping up with gym routines or high intensity classes because you're only ever doing it for the feeling afterwards, or for how they promise you'll look, if only you came back 3+ times a week. Do you know what that's called? You're using those classes as a means to an end. But not here. Not boxing. For me, at least, the very activity of boxing is an ends in itself (that just so happens to give me the fitness and body I've been after all along). It's hard, with tricky combos and footwork, coupled with exhausting, 2-minute stretches of nailing a bag with uppercuts. It keeps my mind buzzing, trying my best to keep it sharp and get the combos right (or helping my partner with their's), and forces me to reach deeeep into my reserves to hit, weave, and power through those moments when you just want to say "I can't". The gym is a no-nonsense, warehouse style venue, with plenty of bags and floorspace for the size of the classes, and a pretty decent split of men to women (though I think there's also a dedicated Thursday class for women?) Any notion of it being intimidating go away completely the moment you introduce yourself to the person next to you. This gym keeps true to what it set out to do, and I think for that reason it attracts that kind of person; no pretenders or showboaters or other such characters. There are some pro looking people, and some very green looking people (like me), and some in-between. People come here because they enjoy the thing they're doing. They're not here to just enjoy the after-effects. Classes are Mon, Wed, Fri, and I hope I can continue to make them all! (And when I don't, boy do I miss it!)

Every session is a great workout, but more importantly, you leave feeling like you're building real technique. It's clear he's learned from some of the best in the world (Ask him about it!), which shows in the way he teaches. I'm glad I found him when I moved to Austin -- highly recommend his 1-on-1 sessions to anyone looking to improve fast with the right foundation.

I've been severely out of shape since Covid because the gyms shut down, and I didn't feel safe going into a gym once they did open up. I was at my absolute heaviest weight I'd ever been, and getting back into shape seemed daunting. With Olivier's help, I am now building muscle, upping my cardio, and shedding weight. He focused on technique above power, which was really important to me because I came in knowing absolutely nothing and of course I don't want to get injured. Now if anyone were to put me in a threatening position, I know I can knee them in the head, teep them, and/or give them a nice punch to the liver. I feel more confident in my abilities, and I feel like I have a healthier, better body.

This gym is tucked away in a small plaza but it is quite homey. There are a few punching bags available. The class setup is typically a warm-up, shadow boxing, partner work, and then bagwork followed by stretching/cool down. They started added a conditioning class twice a week as well which focuses more on strength training over technique. Fernando is one of the owners and he's very kind. He's very positive, encouraging and is patient when helping you or others with technique. This must be contagious because I find my classmates equally encouraging and helpful. I find the price to be pretty reasonable too. I used to go every day and have definitely seen positive changes with my body. Now, I try to go maybe 2-3 times a week to cross training with pole :) If youre looking for a great cardio workout, this is the place to go!
