In getting the permits, carefully moving plants, extraordinary clean up!, Even to vacuuming in the attic area of where the new roof was put on, from the debris that had fallen through. What a great experience we had with James and Lord roofing. My dads house is about 100 years old and we had several leaks that were small but turned more worrisome with the last big storm. My husband called about a dozen roofers in the area and couldn't get anyone to even come out and look. When he finally talked to James he said they were extremely busy but he would try to get to us within the week. He kept his word and gave my dad an estimate of how much it would cost and how long it would take. My dad agreed but James told him he had a lot of jobs lined up ahead so he wouldn't be able to start for a couple of weeks. We had no choice but to wait. Fortunately he had a cancellation and was able to start the next day. The crew showed up on time, were professional and the job was done on time. About 3-4 weeks later we had a very bad rain with a lot of wind and we had a leak in the kitchen which we had experienced before. James came the next day and checked the roof. He took a hose up there to try to re-create the leak. It was not the roof. He noticed ther was a window up there that had a crack and said the water might be getting in there abd going through the wall. He had a recommendation of a man that could come look at it for us. He made the call and Oscar was there within hours. James went above and beyond for my dad. I can't recommend them enough. read more

I live in Marina and had an issue when a storm in the early months of 2019 blew the metal roof off my enclosed patio. That metal roof went flying through the air, down the street, and into the yards of my neighbors like a frisbee with the last little bit of remaining semi attached roof smashed up looking like an airplane had crashed landed on top of it. I googled roofers and made some calls. Some businesses returned my calls, some didn't. Those that did, and after looking at the remaining wreckage, informed me there was nothing they could do. However, they noticed that the main part of the house needed to be replaced. No other solutions were offered to me concerning my original reason for calling them out. Called James Lord, of Lord Roofing. He came by and observed the damage letting me know that even though he couldn't replace the metal roof he knew some people who could, A&R Sheet Metal. James never left me hanging. He would, however, be able to replace the shingles to the main part of the house, and the shed. He got in touch with that company right away and they came right out. When I told him I needed to find someone to replace my deck and fence, he also knew someone who could do that... Sampaolo (Joey) Builders. James Lord even knew an electrician who could help when I needed my lights looked at. James told me exactly what he could do, would do, and what the job would cost. He is a small business but he and his crew were on it. Every day. On time. They didn't play around on the job and had it completed in a very, very, short time. They were all very polite, personable, ALWAYS on time, cleaned up their work at the end of the day. And because they are Marina based, they often times work together and are able to keep the flow going, not leaving me hanging. I was never left out there by myself to figure it all out. So glad I didn't need to have a company drive down from the Bay Area, or someplace leaving jobs outstanding because no one knew who to call. I contacted Lord roofing this morning and left a message. James called me back in less than 30 minutes. He stated he was on his way to Salinas but could stop by to take a look at a possible roofing issue I was having. James took a look in the attic, examined the roof, removed tiles, examined the underlayment, flashing, etc. All looked good. James explained the water issue I was experiencing was most likely due to the rocks around the exterior of the chimney and not a roofing issue. Needless to say it was pleasant to deal with an honest and reputable individual. Our roof was in serious need of replacement and Lord Roofing and his staff did a wonderful job! We have had major leaks for the past few years. The owner, James, was so kind and helpful in informing us about what roof type to choose depending on our needs and location. He even offered to cover our roof during the rain to prevent further leaks before they could start replacing it. He also helped us with our gutter replacement as it was in serious need of repair. James and his crew did a fantastic job on my mom's new roof awhile back (sorry it took a little bit for me to write this review). He was quick to come out for an estimate and start the job. He helped with picking out the right shingles for the house and figuring out what needed to be fixed on her old roof. We were a little worried that it might rain during the process but he assured us that he would make sure it was taken care of and thankfully Mother Nature was nice and gave us some good weather for it. James and his crew were fast, efficient and clean. They left the ground around her house in great shape, picking up nails, sweeping up and blowing off the dust that came down while removing the old roof. Lord Roofing Review: Our est. 1450 sq ft, one story, 1950's era, Marina, California house was last re-roofed with tar&gravel about 1993. Last winter, a little leaking had occurred during winter rains. It was time for a new roof. I contacted about 5 roofing companies, asking for an estimate for a new roof. Several companies, the bigger ones, said they could send someone to take a look and give an estimate in 2 or 3 months. Two companies, Scudder Roofing and Lord Roofing, located closer, came by promptly to give estimates. Both professional and experienced outfits with top Yelp ratings (5 out of 5). Scudder Roofing had more customer reviews than did Lord Roofing. Scudder was a larger outfit. Lord Roofing smaller and only started in 2017 but by two partners with decades of roofing experience between them. Both Scudder and Lord impressed me. Scudder gave a $17k estimate. Lord gave a $12k estimate. Our house roof wood had areas of dry rot and termites, missed by Planet Orange. Planet Orange is a very good pest control company but different areas of our roof were near impossible to reach. Scudder said the extra "carpenter" work, replacing bad wood found would be about $90 per hour per worker and replacement wood (plywood and beams of 2"x4" and 2"x6" would be cost plus 35%. Lord said the extra work, not found in the initial estimate would be about $65 per hour per worker and that they would charge only their cost for materials. This was for any bad wood discovered after the job was started and not found until the old roof was removed. Lord's cost estimate included some bad wood we found in the initial inspection. Scudder's cost estimate did not include bad wood replacement we found in the initial inspection that I could tell. It was tempting to go with Scudder with their proven track record, but I ended up choosing Lord Roofing for the roof replacement job. Why? Despite both Roofing Companies giving me a very good impression during the initial inspection for purpose of giving me an estimate, .1. Lord Roofing included a handful of areas of bad wood found in the initial inspection, in the price of the job estimate. .2. Scudder's work crew would be experienced employees. But Lord's work crew would be Jim Lord, the Company owner and his partner (and Mr. Lord's adult son). In my experience, if the Company owner is there on the job, the owner makes sure the job is done well and with little wasted time. This was the case. Even our neighbors commented that the Lord Roofing crew (mostly the owner and his partner) worked very hard and quickly without wasting time. It became clear that Jim Lord and his partner were master roofers, who had wanted to stop being employees for bigger companies and to start their own roofing company. .3. Lord Roofing's estimate of $12k was more affordable, than Scudder's at $17k. So, in less than a week, we had a new roof of better grade shingles on the more sloping parts of our roof and composite on the more flat portions. Bad wood replacement (there was quite a bit) cost a bit over $2k. Also installed were rain gutters and drains and rain gutter protective screens to keep the gutters from getting clogged by the leaves of our tall, backyard trees. The gutters with the optional covers added another $1k. I inspected the work and saw the workmanship was excellent. Edge matching was precise. I have worked in the area of quality control in my own field of employment, and Lord Roofing's work was indicative of master level roofers. Much to compliment. Nothing to criticize. Every day, they cleaned up any mess before leaving. The job was done beautifully. I was impressed enough to tell them that they could use me as a reference. I did screw up though. Although I had had the pest controllers Planet Orange, check and treat any pest-containing wood, some months prior. We missed one large dry-wood termite nest that was big. I found it and even though the roof was done, Lord Roofing came back, removed the roof where the termite-infested roof beam was, replaced the roof beam and area siding and plywood, and re-installed that part of the roof, in one day, for modest price. I messed up in assuming pest control inspectors always find all the pests. 9 out of 10 is very good, but that missed #10 was a big enough nest, an entire roof beam had to be replaced, plus plywood 4'x8' paneling and facia wood. I thought it a 2 day job. Jim Lord and his partner (I forgot his name, I am embarrassed to admit, but the guy was VERY good at both roofing and carpentry), did it all in one. I selected Lord Roofing based on Yelp reviews... and I was not disappointed. When I first met, James, the owner, he climbed on the roof to get a good assessment of the situation. He pointed the areas that needed to be looked at, while giving me options to manage my costs. This made me feel he knew his trade quite well but also cared about my budget. He also pointed at some unknowns but specified the additional billing rate for them. All throughout the 10 days of work, he kept calling me to keep me informed of the progress and review my options, and report on the extra costs up to date. They fixed tiles, underlayment, facia boards, valleys, chimney flashing and gutters. I verified their work on the roof a few times and in the end, I was very satisfied with the results. His crew was very friendly and left the place very clean. I definitely recommend them. read more

I'm a retiree who has never posted a review before but felt I should let people know what an outstanding job Lord Roofing did on our house. We're doing a little remodeling & have had some other trades people act as if our business wasn't important. James, the owner of Lord Roofing, treated us as if we mattered. When I first met James his bid was competitive, the project was explained in detail & he was honest enough to tell me that our roof was in good condition & would probably last 3 to 5 years. However, I wanted to get rid of the tar & gravel roof & replace it with asphault shingles. When the project was put on hold & delayed because of the rain, he was courteous enough to keep in touch & we worked on rescheduling. Once the project began, James & his crew of Brian & Javier always showed up on time, cleaned up the grounds at the end of the day & were always polite towards my wife. The roof looks great & they went the little extra in painting the flashing & fixtures to match the roof. Any additional costs, such as wood rot, was explained & shown to me by James. My wife loves the skylight that was installed & it makes the dining area so much brighter. We could not be happier on how such a major job on our "retirement" home turned out.
