Some 20 years ago, living in Pacific Grove, I used Turbo Tax on my computer and ending up having to pay $2,000 to the IRS. A friend suggested I go to Jeffrey Wreidt, CPA, in Salinas, CA (about 25 miles from where I lived). He did my taxes and I received a refund of $3,000. You can bet I've used his services ever since even though I moved to Laguna Woods 2.5 years ago. And to boot, Jeffrey Wreidt is a great guy. He's honest and excellent at what he does. Take a chance. For a number of reasons, our taxes as a married couple filing jointly are complicated, and the charges have never been more than absolutely fair. The advice Mike has given us over the years has been invaluable. We trust him down to our cores. He has become a true friend. He has supported us in times of family tragedy and celebrated with us in the happy times, both personal and financial. He is funny, caring, compassionate, and an excellent accountant! The office staff has always been responsive and courteous, down to an individual. On the investing side, we couldn't be happier. Suffice it to say that even in the 2008 and recent downturns, we have had complete confidence, which I'll add has proven to be well-founded. Scott and Brandon take excellent care of us. They are patient, but realistic about our investing needs as we get nearer to retirement age. They care about us, even though we're not high rollers, and give us time and attention as if we were. I'm sorry to read that Bob and Peter had bad experiences. All I can say is that their stories are completely foreign to anything we have ever encountered at Hayashi and Wayland.

Spent about half the time rambling about people we knew and things going on in Salinas. The bill was ridiculous. All Francis told me was that he bills $330/hr for accounting. My question was, "Did you do some paperwork that I'm unaware of?" He will not get my future business nor the business of my family and friends. What a rip off. Follow up: After seeing my yelp review they decided to write off my bill for the short meeting. The meeting to see if I wanted to use this tax firm. I got a call advising me of this and the caller seemed upset. I was lectured that they bill for time and the caller told me that he did not want my business. Yes, they bill for time doing accounting and I completely understand that. For example, if you buy an ice cream...you pay for the product, the ice cream. You are not billed for waiting in line...that would be excessive and unreasonable. The fact that the caller did not realize this doesn't make it any better.

While I was happy for him (as I believe in doing what one loves and the rest will fall into place), I was also disappointed because this meant finding someone new to handle my taxes. Yet, as a woman of faith I trusted that God would help me find a new tax preparer. . . After a two-week search, I am very thankful to have chosen Ms. Rebecca Barrett. I'm old school when it comes to my taxes so I appreciate tax preparers who are willing to meet face-to-face (especially the first time) to review my documentation (i.e. my prepared spreadsheets). I don't like the idea of sending my documentation to a business via email (even with a secured site) or dropping them off to an office. When it comes to business, money, and/or financial planning, I want to sit across from a seasoned professional and have a conversation. Ms. Barrett was on-time, courteous, knowledgable, friendly, and patient. Those are just some of the superlatives that I would attribute to her upon our first meeting. Now that my taxes are done for 2024, I can celebrate and enjoy the rest of my Spring Break!! Thank you, Ms. Barrett, you are a blessing! Clap, clap!!! :).
