He had a Chicken Club Wrap (grilled chicken breast, bacon, lettuce, red onion, cheddar, cajun mayo served in a flour grilled tortilla) and a side salad and I had wings with medium sauce (they were big!). COVID Rules: Came here during Covid with 2 friends, one of them came a bit before us and was able to secure seats in the patio. - we were asked for names and phone numbers for contact tracing - food menu is through a QR code Atmosphere: (4 stars) Patio is spacious and pleasant, it is in the back of the building so there is not any noise from the street. The chair on the patio were plastic, due to covid They had one tv which was showing a raptors game. Food: (4 stars) Food was good, not great. Nachos to share (with chicken) - 4 stars - came with salsa and sour cream. Lamb burger (with fries) - 3.5 stars - the lamb burger was really tasty, but it did have a few hard bits (likely cartilage or bone), the fries were good, but a few of them were not fully cooked. With 3 beers and the nachos split in 3, the cost was $50, 58 after tip. Draft beers were 8.50$ Service (4.5 stars): friendly, gave us suggestions for food (did not disappoint). read more

Great patio. Great service. Went for drinks last night with a friend and we stayed late. Hadn't seen each other in almost 2 years due to covid travel restrictions. Was so happy the bar staff didn't mind that we unintentionally stayed on the patio wayyy past closing. Thanks to the kind staff. Patio itself was lovely and quiet. No street noise could be heard. I really would like to give this place a 3.5 star rating because it's better than OK but I can't justify the 4th star either. While there is absolutely nothing wrong about this place and nothing for me to really complain about it's not much of a stand out except for the back patio. The menu for food and liquor are pretty standard fare with nothing that's really unique or a draw. The staff are either competent or really awesome. If you are in the neighbourhood and just want a nice patio to hang out on you can do a lot worse than Loons. read more

The only thing worth coming to this place for is the patio in the back+beers. The food was really lack luster and there was 0 service. The bartender seemed really tired and I don't blame him for not being attentive, but there was a perfectly free and available waitress that kept walking back and forth and never bothered to ask us if we needed anything. When we spoke to her about getting the bill, she seemed annoyed and confused and would rather check her phone. We're never coming back. read more

Great Patio, you can beat it and the wait staff was also very friendly, the food on the other hand was disappointing I had to write this review. I ordered the turkey avocado sandwich which sounds great and with a $16 price tag for a sandwich it better be good. Wow I thought it was a joke when I received my order, absolutely terrible. Attached is a photo of half of the sandwich, the other half I ate. You can make your own judgments, but that's not worth $5 in my opinion. Had lots of beer here and I got really drunk! The atmosphere he was so much fun, people in the bar were singing and the patio in the back is just fantastic. One Irish chick was having so much fun she tried to lite up a smoke at the bar! Some old guy got up out of his chair (he was playing cards) and started yelling at them. She eventually needed to be carried out the front door by one of her friends, that just shows you how much fun Loons can be!! I will come back here for sure! It's a really great place and I don't think too many places like this exist in the city anymore, swing by this summer with your friends and rock the patio. I know I will. Cheers! After waiting 15 minutes, I walked from the patio to the bartender and asked for a beer, cutlery, napkins and glass of water. Slow service, bad food, and floaties in the drinks. I came here to enjoy the back patio on a beautiful and sunny Sunday afternoon. My friend and I were greeted by the slow server about 15 minutes after we seated ourselves. We were parched so we asked for water (and beer). Unsurprisingly, only the beer arrived and there was no mention of our neglected water. I ordered the poutine which was clearly described in the menu as containing "cheese curds". My pet peeve when it comes to poutine is when its made with shredded mozzarella, as it was here. News flash: that is NOT poutine! That is just an order of cheese fries. False advertising. On top of that, both of our drinks had weird floaties in them but our server was far to absent for us to mention this to him. He finally came back around when we were ready to pay our bill but the credit card machine was broken so we were advised to go pay at the bar. No apologies for the inconvenience. Customer service? Terrible service tonight! Waiter seemed put out because we chose to sit on the heated patio. We ordered Bourbon Sours which tasted like a very tart lemonade...asked to change it only to be told that "sour" was in the name of the drink! Food was okay, the patio itself was very nice with lights and heaters. At the end of the meal we had asked for two bills but then decided that one person would pay the whole thing. The waiter actually walked away and crumpled the two bills AS my friend was explaining that she would gladly pay the two bills instead of having to make a new one. Nothing standout about this place, though I've heard they have a good patio and may stop in for a drink in summer. They list wheat beer on their chalkboard out front, but didn't have any when we were there, nor did they have any blonde ales. I was being pouty about Bleucheesegate... and while it's still thin and not bleu cheese but sour cream mixed with milk... that still shouldn't deter you from going here. Not that I ever intended that. Because, seriously? Loons' wings are among the best in the High Park/Roncy strip, and maybe even among the best in the city. Large pieces, excellent sauces. Loons Restaurant came highly recommended by my fiancé who sat on the back deck earlier having a beer. He was meeting with friends slash colleagues and said it was a great spot. Definitely true. Has muskoka chairs out back and tv's in a few corners to catch the jays game. Low key group of people. Limited servers on the back deck and got the sense that many were finding the service slow. Aside from that, the samosa, the turkey avocado club, and the pulled pork sandwich were solid. I'm fries obsessed and the Loon's fries are great. Easy to find parking as well. read more

The Loon has a shuffleboard! The great game of shuffle-boarding brings me back to my youth where i spent hours on my grandparents board. The Loon is like many pubs in the Polish hub...OK. Now they have a great multi teared patio out back which is great for hanging out in the summer. The wait staff is not afraid to stir up it - as we once had a debate over how the Loon was our national animal. She claimed it was the Beaver?! But it's nice to have a pub where the people have personality! They have some good live music on some nights, and they always have beer. So its on my list of places to drink beer! Cheers! read more

The food was completely average, my 14$ quesadilla had a slice of the tortilla missing from it, having only three pieces even though it was cut in quarters... probably eaten by one of their inept staff members. We wanted to go originally because of them having a Golfen Tee Golf machine, but probably should have skipped it and gone to a classier restaurant like McDonalds I ordered an additional order of sweet potato fries because of the tiny portion of food guven in the original order, and that ended up being 8$, to which when we asked an explanation about, the incredibly rude waitress said "they are so expensive because," (and i am not joking) "they are not home made." I literally rolled my eyes fuether then i thought possible. She then had the nerve to say that WE were being rude, which is hilariously ironic. Apparently they are not allowed to tell customers that their sweet potayo fries are more expensive than they likely are at Harbour Sixty steak house because "it might imply that we don't think they can afford them" Which in turn is almost insulting becausr I am not missing any teeth and actually wasn't wearing my Walmart hoodie on this occasion. If McDonalds is too far out of your way and/or you can't make it to the soup kitchen then Loons is the perfect place for you. read more

The waitress was nice and kindly warned me that my burnt hamburger would not be replaced anytime soon, because the chef had disappeared. My fault really; I walk into this dank interior with a vague memory of a well - seasoned burger on an afternoon now long ago. That was then, this is now. The people around me seem to know that the mini pitcher happy hour is the reason to be here. You can huddle over your brew and relive the glory of 80s rock while trying to decipher the scrawls knifed into the table. I'm wondering; does that baby's mother know the babysitter brings him here? Forgot the duck in my "Duck" poutine, and never came back to ask how things were. After 10 minutes and the fries getting cold, we took it back. They apologized and said they would fix it. They microwaved some shredded duck and served it steaming hot on top of cold fries and gravy after another 10 minutes so my wife had eaten but I had not. The duck was chewy and the fries and gravy cold. We returned it and the insisted on charging us for half the poutine even though we had only had about a quarter. Cheap move! No Class! It's possible this is a theme bar, and the theme is "Suburban Business Park". We went here on a Saturday evening, when the Local down the street was too full. In here you won't find the stylish 30 somethings that inhabit most of this part of the city. This seems to the natural habitat of the corporate-branded windbreaker set. Even on a Saturday night there aren't enough of them to make the place appear vibrant. The walls play silent sports (to be ignored), in favour of a depressing sounding satellite radio station that switched between 80's Pop and 90's Rock. There's shuffleboard. The food was well below average. The menu is limited to only the items that you could also find in the zellers restaurant in 1992. It's exclusively things that can be fried from frozen, and then dressed with something extracted from a tube. We ordered anyways, as it was cold outside and beginning to snow. Everyone regretted it. Chewy chicken, dry burger, cold soup. Everything was previously in a freezer or a can. I went here. I went here so you won't have to. There's no reason anyone else should go here. Ever. Surely it will close and in its place there will be a coffee shop. Everything around here turns into a coffee shop. We're just batshit for coffee. read more

Alas, something about Loons doesn't quite click. I've been here both for an afternoon beer, and an evening, um, series of beers, and while it's not a particularly bad bar, somehow it never stands out for me. The food is fine, although they can't compete with the prices of the ethnic eateries further down Roncesvalles; they also have standard bar deals like tall-boy specials. The patio out back is quite spacious, so definitely head through the bar to there if the weather is nice, as the interior seems a bit gloomy even during the day. read more

We had heard from a few friends about this place, and decided to check it out one evening for some good ol' fashioned pub fare while we were in the area after being by the lake. Great thing is that this place parking behind the pub, so it's easy to get to. After being seated pretty quickly, we were overly impressed with the service and the quality of the food! I was a bit skeptic about going here as it's in my neighbourhood and I had never heard anyone say they'd been there before. But it turns out it is perfectly fine. The reason we went was we wanted to eat on a patio. The patio is fantastic. Service - our waiter was patient (we had kids with us) and friendly. It was quite busy being the first real patio day of the year so it was nice to see he didn't crack under the pressure, but he did forget to ask if I wanted my sandwich on white or whole wheat. Our food came in a reasonable amount of time considering they felt a little understaffed. Food - We ordered the following - turkey avocado club, bbq tofu sandwich, chicken fingers, pizza rolls, and grilled cheese. The turkey club was a 3 (wish it had come on whole wheat & the avocado was actually liquid not slices). My friend really seemed to like her tofu sandwich. The chicken fingers were a 4, but be warned they aren't breaded and my kid wasn't happy about it (she prefers Gabby's chicken fingers). The pizza rolls were happily consumed by one of the kids and came with a garlic sauce that had something I can't put my finger on in it that was awesome! Grilled cheese looked amazing, so gooey with cheese also happily eaten by a kid. The fries are very good, but the portions were small. The kids actually commented on this fact as well. Overall I'd say a little over priced for what you get considering the other pub food options this neighbourhood has, but it was kid friendly and had a patio. read more

This is a fun bar at night time, and I have been there a few times. However, they serve spillage - the extra foam that settles in a glass that is usually counted as waste at the end of the night. Had the special for lunch. Soup and Sandwich. Doesn't sound bad right? Well I got a thin fat filled peice of meat, some mushrooms then two slices of bread. With a side of spilled chunky chicken soup. The meat was chewy like a leather shoe. I had a flat coke to loosen up the meat that I was chewing. Awful. If at least had one slice of cheese or a peice of onion for flavour or at least some fizz I would be happy. Just drink the beer you can't mess that up. read more
