I stopped in for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon around 4 PM. The restaurant looks great from the outside, and the interior is updated. It appears that they're going to create a substantial outdoor seating area, as they had it all staked out. The dining area was about half full and I took a seat at the bar. That's where my trouble began. It took almost 10 minutes for anybody to even recognize that I was sitting at the bar, even though there were four or five people working behind the bar. I finally got someone's attention and ordered an amber beer. I got my beer and asked for a menu so I could order lunch. I spent the next 20 to 30 minutes trying to get someone's attention so I could order lunch, all to no avail. I then tried to get someone's attention so I could cash out because I obviously wasn't going to get the meal I was expecting. I couldn't get anybody's attention, so I ended up having to leave $10 at the bar to pay for $4.50 beer that I only drank a quarter of. For those of you who are math majors, that's over 100% tip for poor service. I obviously can't comment on the food quality, but I really hope they get their hands around the service issue, because another quality place in Dewitt would be welco. read more

I really want to like this place because I grew up in DeWitt and never imagined there would be a brewery downtown. The way they converted the building and the outside looks great. The beers are pretty good from what I've sampled but I have yet to have a good meal here. This was my 3rd and will be my last time eating here. Every time the food has taken forever for come out. This time I actually clocked it and it took 47 minutes from when I put in my order to when it showed up. Waiting that long for below average food is not acceptable. I've had the brat, brisket, pit beans, cornbread, mac and cheese, French dip and fries. The only thing I would recommend is the pit beans. Not sure how you can screw up mac and cheese but they pulled it off. Go for the beer but do not eat here. I'm super bummed out I can't give this place a good review but I gave them 3 chances and they blew all 3. read more

I really want to like this place since it is very close to home, but it seems like every time I try it, it's just an okay experience- food is good but service is bad or vice versa. Decided to give it another go yesterday since they advertised ladies night discounts and trivia. Our server Skylar was not friendly- I honestly didn't see her crack a smile the entire evening. We tried to give the benefit of the doubt that maybe she was having a bad day, but there was an issue with our bill and no apology, no explanation, nothing. Not what I would have done (and yes, I was a server for many years) and not the type of customer service that will bring repeat patrons. She failed to give us the advertised ladies night discount ("she forgot") and I realized today that she still added on the additional fees for no cash payment even though we specifically paid with cash to avoid. We still tipped her 20% on the original check amount, though in retrospect, it was too much. Food was just okay. I think they need to fine tune the main menu instead of rotating in new specials. I like the beers and think I will stick to only popping onto the patio in the summertime for a drink. read more

Decided to come here with some friends. It was a Saturday night and was a little busy. This place used to be an old church and is very cute on both the inside and outside! They have games you can play while you wait for your food. There were five people in our party. Drinks came fast but refills took a little longer and especially for water. We waited about 45 minutes to get our food. The server told us when our food was coming out and apologized because their kitchen is small. I ordered the Mac and cheese was not that good. It was kind of a soupy Mac and cheese. The pulled pork was pretty good but tasted luke warm compared to the Mac and cheese below it. We've been here many times and on average it's OK. I was happy to have a brewery open up in this town. The inside flax Ambience but the outside patio is nice. The beer is okay in the menu changes but is pretty good. Our last experience was terrible. We got there at 8 exactly first thing they did was say they were not serving food anymore which it doesn't stay on the website. Second of all by 8:20 I had one waitress mopping under my chair, literally hit my chair and apologized. And on the other side of us a waitress was counting her tips. By 8:30 both bathroom doors were open and being clean and not accessible. We felt rushed and uncomfortable the whole time. The girl at the bar was clearly eager to rush everyone out. I commented on how bright the lights were and she said she had to turn them on to see the floors to clean. There were 12 to 14 people still in the restaurant it's not like we were holding them up. On a road trip for my daughter's swim team and found a cool corner in the town of DeWitt housing a brewery in an old church. Amen! Saw a great assortment at our table of the beer and food items they offer. Tasted most of it. Really great stuff. The brews and ciders were top notch. The barbecue centered menu was its absolute equal. The only thing that needs a tweak is the speed of the service. We waited a long time for the food to arrive which started getting folks a bit antsy, but luckily we had cold beers and got conversation to see us through. read more

Went here for the first time for dinner and trivia night. They serve great beer and cider. I had their amber, which seemed more like a brown ale that wasn't too heavy. I loved it. My wife had a cranberry cider, which she loved. I'm usually not a fan of ciders, but I liked the cranberry cider. The food is good. It's primarily BBQ fare: brisket, chicken, pulled pork. They make their own slaw, which was fresh and hit the right balance between creamy and vinegary. Their pit beans had a rich flavor. My only disappointment was that they were out of corn bread, which was supposed to come with my meal. Looking Glass is in a renovated church. They've done a nice job repurposing the space. The entire community was excited for this place to open, which happened about six months later than they advertised. We should have seen this as a prophecy. I've gone several times by myself and also with my family and tried most of the beers and the food. The beers taste good, maybe a bit too drinkable, but all the types taste the same. All the ales taste the same and all stouts taste the same, etc. I'm told the wine is good. I liked the salmon and the Rueben and the cornbread, but everything else is just meh. And don't order the $9 bratwurst, which is a basic Johnsonville on a Wonder bun with a couple tablespoons of meh kraut and a meh side. The main reason I'm giving one star is because the service just outright sucks. It can take forever to get your first "Hello" and a table, forever to place your drink order, forever to get that drink, forever to place your food order, and forever x2 to get the food, and forever to get the check. And the service staff need to act a lot friendlier and try smiling more. Another reason for the poor rating is the atmosphere. It's very cavernous and loud. Impossible to hold a conversation without yelling if the place is more than half full. I know it was a church previously, but dang. I tried talking this place up in the hopes it would improve, but everybody is still saying the same thing - slow and loud. You have to wonder if the owner even gives a hoot because he has to hear this feedback constantly, but seems to do nothing about it. This place could be great if they made the obvious changes needed. Instead they had a Street Fest in early August which was a rip off. The music sucked and the beer was overpriced. In addition to the $5 cover, they sold $5 beer tickets, so to compensate for usually different priced beers, they had different serving sizes. I paid $5 for what ended up an 8 ounce beer. I drank it before my wife was even served her beer. The crowd was cool though for DeWitt. And the website sucks and the social media presence is like an eight year old boy got ahold of his parent's phone. Nice bathrooms though. read more

One star because the beer is good. Got there at 5:20pm. Waitress was super slow. Place was not even half full. Ordered our food and it didn't come until 6:30. The ribs were so over done that they were leather. The beans were so under done that they were crunchy. They sent the food manager out and he took it off the bill. The Waitress apologized as I was the third patron of hers to send back the ribs. So by 6:30 (the beginning of peak dinner) that one waitress had three people who sent back the ribs. Midwesterners often won't complain as we are nice people but three did before dinner hour really even started. Asked the waitress at 6 for at least our kids food and she said she would get them their food or chips and salsa. She did neither for 30 minutes. I was reluctant to give this place a try (even though I live two streets away) because the customer service reviews were so abysmal. My parents were in town for a visit so I took a chance and brought them here for lunch (on a Saturday) and let me just tell you, my fears were immediately erased! Came here to try their food and the food was very good, nice place with a nice outdoor seating area, loved the food but the service was HORRIBLE! almost felt like the waitress was offended we even exist. nothing but smiles, thank yous and please from me, nothing but ok ya ok k ok, k , k and no smiles, no thank yous or anything from her, not even a refill on my coke (ordered it, sat down to eat for an hour, 20 minutes after that and ZERO refill or even "how's your food" absolutely NOTHING. When i asked for the check and she brought it back i tried handing her the card she opened the card holder book and said put it here, basically refused to take my card by hand and wanted me to put it, i usually do not complain or review bad experiences because at some point i was a waiter too and know how it is but she was just unprofessional and rude with my table, goes to the next table and shes funny, nice, friendly smiley and cool. I still don't understand why she was this shi**y specially since we didnt even do anything or ask for something complicated but hey I guess she simply didnt like us and thats fine, just know that she lost you my business because i truly enjoyed the food and everything about the place except for the service and thats the impression i have about the place now. read more

Our first impression was not good. The noise, I'm sure due to the high ceilings was deafening. Conversation was impossible without yelling. Seating very uncomfortable. The beer was so-so and not cold enough. The service was very disappointing. I asked if they had horseradish and was told yes and that it was made fresh in house. Perfect! So I ordered the Reuben sandwich. They served the sandwich and I asked for the horseradish. The server said I'm sorry we don't make that anymore. What? The cabbage was not sauerkraut it was sautéed cabbage and the corned beef was tough. How do you mess that up? Then we asked for butter for the cornbread and we were rewarded with four slices. That's good. We get our bill and noticed it was $.50 per slice of butter. Get out of here!!! Really? The other meals, pulled pork and salmon were okay but not great. I placed a take out order online on 8/3 and was very disappointed. I have ordered from Looking Glass numerous times before, but after this experience, I am unsure if I will continue to. We had 2 sandwich orders with tots that were both soggy and had odd little chunks attached to them even when picking up on time. We had sauce for a sandwich which was leaking all over in the box. In addition, we ordered the BLAT salad which came with 1 sliver of avocado, and also stated came with a protein of our choice. We requested chicken online and then were told when we went to pick-up it was an additional $5 for the chicken, which they stated needed to be updated on their site. The chicken was one thin breast which was not even cut. When we went to pick up there was no hostess, and 2 servers were standing around. The bartender finally recognized us standing at the hostess stand and asked if we needed help. The hostess came from somewhere to assist and inform us of their new pricing while the servers just watched. Overall 3 food orders, each with underwhelming results. Poor food, poor service and false advertising. Will take my business elsewhere. read more

Nice addition to Dewitt. The beer is good and the BBQ very good. I had the Reuben for lunch and it was a unique take on the traditional. The DUG sauce was a nice compliment to it. Brisket and pulled pork were also good. Both the sweet sauce and the Hot sauce were traditional and hot the spot. Facility is LOUD! Started with chips and salsa- which was basically canned tomatoes and corn- then I got the brisket sandwich which was OK, but probably wouldn't ordered it again. We had an opportunity to go back to the Looking Glass Brewery. My husband ordered the chicken because he loves chicken, and said it was very good. I guess I misunderstood him the previous weekend. We again had a wonderful selection of brews and foods. I ordered the exact same meal as before, and the quality was just as great. Went to dinner tonight with my family, and the waitress spilled a full pint of beer on my lap. Soaked my winter coat, pants, shirt, and shoes. Not only did they charge me full price for the beer, they didn't take anything off of my bill or offer to pay for the dry cleaning bill on my wool winter coat. We drove 30 miles to try this place. Ordered an appetizer, beer and our meal. The drinks and appetizer came but no meal. People around us who came in later had received their meal. I asked the waitress about that and was told that was not her section and their waitress turned their order before. That would be difficult to do since they came in long after we were there. Finally our waitress told us that there was a computer glitch and our order was lost. Apparently ours was the only one lost as everyone else was eating. Go figure!! The manager did give us a 25.00 gift card but still we have to drive 30 miles to use the gift. read more

Terrible service, not much atmosphere, Very cafeteria like layout! Was our first and likely last time there. Food was average but nothing compelling. Things began to go wrong when our waitress had to be flagged down to get another beer. This occurred throughout our dining experience. Then one time she only took a drink order for 1 of the four of us... (3 empty glasses on the table after having to be flagged down again) totally lacking hospitality awareness and courtesies. Almost made us feel like she was doing us a favor by us being there. To add insult to injury something happened with the waitress to where my wife's beer was spilled all over her shirt and pants and basically totally soaked her and my pants. No "Im so sorry" or anything. She did bring paper towels but my wife had to request towels. The waitress never even apologized for the incident, even if it was difficult to determine how it happened it was totally unsatisfactory for her to say nothing.... nose in the air as she walked past our table several times... I brought it up to the mgr and then she spoke to the awkward waitress. Then the waitress proceeded to go around the room to her other associates working that evening, pointing at us and embellishing on the incident. LOL Totally inappropriate. In the end the waitress stated while walking away from our table from 15' away. "I took off the beer that spilled". WOW! LAUGHABLE and thank you for giving us a real reason to come back. Not so much I'm afraid. I'm known for tipping high around town as my wife points out. If I go to Bravo or Capitol Prime certain people remember me because I believe in rewarding good service no matter how stock the restaurant... have even been known to give random 100 tips to cooks to make people's day. Not today. My wife and the other couple we were with were all shocked at her lack of caring and consideration for what one of her guest just went through. Bottom line accidents happen as we all know... but what we do when they happen makes all the difference (or not!). The thing that infuriated us the most I think was her walking around the room pointing at us to her coworkers and embellishing on what occurred. Totally inappropriate!! Where was management when this was going on?? A shame that we had this experience because we were hoping for a new place to go for drinks and dinner. Most decidedly a thumbs down and you lost the 4 of us and well more as possible customers. Bad news travels fast Im afraid and from what I've been reading, many others have experienced bad service there as well. I came with four other people Saturday evening for dinner and drinks. I ordered the Hazy Shade (a summer wheat). It was good. Unfortunately that was the only positive of the evening. I understand this is a new business, but a lot needs to be worked out. Namely their food vendor. If the food is catered I don't know why it took 1.5 hours to get our food. The menu is small, mostly bbq. It should only require scooping it onto a plate and sending it out. The food was okay. I ordered the grilled chicken plate. The chicken was fine. Nice smoky taste, but nothing I couldn't have accomplished at home. Fries were well seasoned. Mac and cheese was a pass--not much flavor. Two people ordered the reuben. No sauerkraut, swiss cheese, or thousand island dressing. Not sure if this was just their take on a reuben as there wasn't a description on the menu and the manager (?) didn't know what came on the sandwich. The restaurant was also very loud. Our party had to yell to have a normal conversation. Combined with the long wait it wasn't a very relaxing evening. I would return at a less busy time to drink a beer, but would pass on the food. read more

Oh, my goodness. I thought I had found the best fried pickles. I was sadly mistaken. This place has 'em! We started out with their session IPA, Veteran's IPA, a rye especially brewed for our elite number that served for us. Very tasty. Since I am a hop gal, I also had an IPA new on tap, ElDorado Crush. Very citrus, hoppie goodness. Went SO well with those delicious pickles! Just enough breading to say it was so, then the sauce...oooooh, la, la! We continued our meal with a French Dip special. Honestly, one of the bestest, I have ever eaten, word from the chef, it is destined to be on the menu! The beef was flavored so beautifully - on could savor the sagie goodness! I also was naughty, and got a 1/2 pour of a double IPA ( yes, I REALLY like the hops!), King David. So very good! The BEST! Even if I tried hard, I don't think I could find a bad thing to say about Looking Glass Brewery. We sat at the bar, our most favorite seat. The barkeep was great, knew his brew, kept our glasses full...what more could a hopgal want?! Most definitely shall return! read more

LGB Co is a energetic new brew pub/restaurant in DeWitt, MI. Very exciting to have yet another choice in DeWitt for food and beer. As mentioned by a previous reviewer, the restaurant was noisy but we didn't find it frantic. We were a little surprised the majority of patrons were in their upper 50's or older; although, we were there on a Tuesday around 6. We also later found out it was the restaurant's ribbon cutting ceremony, so perhaps that had something to do with who was present. I'm not much of a craft beer person, but found the Cream Ale very good. I would order it again. My partner will not drink craft beer, and since there was no wine or liquor selections, she drank water. We shared the nachos with meat (brisket). Although the chips and possibly the brisket were salty, the dish was very good. It wasn't loaded with a bunch of ingredients so you were able to taste everything on the plate... brisket (smoked on sight), beer cheese (very good), jalapeños, pico and sour cream. There may have also been cilantro or perhaps it was in the pico. This was plenty for two no-so-heavy eaters. The service was exceptional. Every staff member seemed psyched to be there (could have something to do with the ribbon cutting) and attentive to the customers. The mood was very upbeat. The seating is such that you can visit with neighboring patrons. It was a very pleasant evening. I will certainly return and recommend LGB Co to my friends. read more
