As a person who has gone to this vet office for over 30 years, I have to say how sad it is that I will NEVER go back. They are charging 30 dollars a pet for a missed appointment! EVEN IF YOU TELL THEM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! I had a horse in the trailer on the way to the ER vet ( as they no longer have a vet that does horses) and texted them BEFORE they opened (this is their preferred method of contact) appointment was not until 4pm, they had all day to fill the spot! ITS ONLY 15 dollars at my Human dr office for missed appointments! There was no understanding whatsoever, just wanted the money AND CHARGED A FIVE DOLLAR "interest"!!!!!! unbelievable .. AND you cant even talk to a Dr the little girls upfront are running the show and its very obvious they are more interested in their phones. read more

Update: 9/28/2024 The latest encounter reinforces my point that they are understaffed and forced to try and multitask which they are not successful doing. On 9/23 I requested a copy of my dogs vaccine history to give my new Vet. It came quickly by the end of the day however it was for some else and their dog. Its disturbing on several levels since it provided me with all their personal info, name, address, phone and dogs name. It also shows a lack of attention to detail. I replied that evening to the email stating the attachment wasn't me or my dog and would they please send correct info. On 9/26 I had to request the information again since I hadn't gotten any reply to the 9/23 email. At the end of the day they sent the correct records without any message with the attachment. My only advise to Look Ahead is for the office manager to actually sit and do each job in the office to experience what they are asking of the staff and only then will positive changes occur. Too late for me but may help for future clients. read more

We have been taking our frenchie here since he was born and they recommend getting nose surgery when we we're going to get him neutered. So time came around to get him neutered and they also recommended removing a pallet in his throat so without any warning of anything that might go wrong and them just making it seem like it was a simple procedure we get everything they recommended done about $1500. We had the procedure done on Wednesday and took our dog home only to wake up on Sunday to find our dog, best friend dead. The only thing they were able to tell us was sorry and even tried to change us more money on top of the $1500 they already charged us just to cremate our dog. They did not offer to refund any of the money the charged us or even do an autopsy on our dog (they did say they would do an autopsy but it would cost us) so basically they just want the money for any procedure they can do and don't care about your feelings or your pets life as long as they get paid. Ps we got this dog when my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer to help her get through chemotherapy and keep her mind occupied this was her first dog and she was so devastated. read more

Staff lacks the ability to answer phones or messages despite two big signs hanging on front windows telling you to call or text. 8:02 Send text message asking if they see cats that are in need of medical assistance. 8:30 Send same message 8:41 Call and no answer 8:45 Walk in despite signs saying not to enter. Greeted by two employees at front desk laughing about something and was asked to exit. I asked if they even bothered checking messages, one employee picks up phone and pushed two buttons and hung it back up. Needless I left building and property pissed and went to different vet for assistance. 9:19 Arrive at different vet. 9:21 Cat being taken in by staff for medical attention. 9:40 Look Ahead finally returned text recommend different vet. 9:50 Look Ahead states they do not take pets in for emergency medical attention. Front counter staff needs to be kicked to curb and replaced if they can not answer phones or check messages. read more

Called in on a Wednesday looking to get my horse in that's not been eating like she usually does. They tell me they don't do house calls so I'll have to bring her in. Ok when can I do that? "Hold please, looks like my equine doctor is out until next week so we would probably suggest you take her into uc Davis." "Wow that sounds a little extreme. I don't think it's that serious just yet so she can probably hold out until next week" "Ok what's your name and number?" "Blah bleh blah blah" "Ok we will give you a call next week when the equine doctor gets in and caught up" Ya never mind. Not sure if they are out of touch with technology to not have a better idea of when someone will be back in or just horrible communication. If the doctor is out on a family issue that's open ended then just say your vet is out and you are not sure when they will be back in right when I call rather than drag it out and tell me you'll call me in a week or whenever. They got my dog in the same day that I called. Unfortunately, he had to be put down. They were very helpful and compassionate throughout the process. I could tell that they really care. I normally don't believe in using a vet, I just let nature takes it's course. I didn't have the heart to end my dogs life. It's not cheap, but I'm glad that I took him to them. read more

This vet center is so welcoming. During COVID it has been rough on everyone, but they figured out how to keep everyone safe and patient (pun intended). Dr. Prather never feels rushed and listens to pet and owner. And vice versa. Definitely try! I'll be loyal for a long time. read more

I love this vet. My friend told me about this vet after i was searching for an answer to my dogs skin condition. I was going to a different vet on oro dam bld but they woukd just charge me for the lies they would give me.. Look ahead vet is the place for honest truthful answers. Craig brown is my favorite veterinarian i have EVER MET. He helped my dog with the skin condition . Prescribed the right medicine and brought my best friend back to life. I have recently moved and unfortunately my dog was attacked by a stray dog, i called around to see if i could get advice on how to treat a puncher wound. The vets here in Sacramento said they CANNOT GIVE ME ADVICE! I did not no what to do except call Dr. Brown and asked for advice on what do, how to treat the wounds. My review of this place is months overdue. We followed Dr. Prather her from CAH back in January when she transferred, and it's literally the difference between night and day! When we first started going here we were totally thrown off because we would call and, miraculously, someone would answer the phone and NOT put us on hold for a half hour or forget about us altogether or disconnect us (that happened to me no less than twice at our old place). We literally talked about this for the first two months we started coming here because we were so confused by well, being treated with respect! The staff manages to remain friendly, even if it's a literal zoo in there and everyone is super busy. What we appreciate the most is that they have always been able to get our critters in the door in a timely manner. We got used to planning at least a month ahead to get in for annuals (and then they would sneak schedule us with a tech at our last place when we were expecting our vet), and in the past few months we've had several emergencies come up and they were able to get us in right away. It's a farther drive for us, but so worth it. Between the stomatitis kitty, the one that gets annual UTIs and needs full-body shaves, the one that can't eat grass apparently or she'll manage to jam it behind her teeth, and our pup that we were starting to think was allergic to life, it's crucial to have a good vet, and I trust very few, but we adore Dr. Prather and are so happy she's at Look Ahead. The prices are more than reasonable, they don't push unnecessary treatments, and we never know what kind of critters we'll see when we go through the door. read more

I brought my German Shepherd/ St Bernard X in for his skin reaction to fleas. He's 110, well trained but naturally very sensitive! He did not feel comfortable with our last vet. The vet didn't really like him either. My dog was terrified! I had to find someone else. Anyhoo, we are happy we met Dr. Brown. He's so nice and comforting for my boy. Everyone in his office was very kind and I felt they took the time to hear me out. Did not feel rushed. They where even very understanding about my 4 yr old son, who is a bit hyper. And, they are so reasonably price! I have worked in pet rescue, boarding, owned a pet store, I have fostered many dogs and delt with many vets. I can honestly say I am very happy with their service. I came in a few months ago the first time because I had to get my other dog updated on rabies so I can get him licensed. They got me in right away, no vet check first, just gave him the shot. It was under $20! (Can't remember the exact total but I paid in cash! First time at a vet for me!) If you have a sensitive HUGE dog, you can understand what a relief it is to find a vet that works. I am so grateful to have found this vet! They were recommend to me by a friend after a less then pleasant experience with another vet here in Chico. I will never take my dog anywhere else. I was first blown away by the friendly professional demeanor of the front office ladies! Not only were they sweet but also knowledgeable and obviously love animals. They answered all of my questions, booked my appointments and never seemed rushed or in a hurry to get me off the phone when I call. Then I met the dr! he was incredibly warm and friendly. I was so nervous to get my puppy spayed, I had her ready at another vet but couldn't go through with it because I didn't trust that they would treat my dog with love. That was not the case here. You can tell this whole staff loves animals. They called to let me know her surgery went well and that I could pick her up in a few hours. When I did the assistant brought her out in her arms and you could tell my pup had been taken care of and treated well. They just keep getting worse. My daughter takes her dog, she has not had complaints. I take my cat, and it's rude, inconsistant, lack of knowledge and responsibility to the max!Two weeks ago, I took my elderly cat in because of weight loss. She was examined and said needed blood work. I was told they would have to sedate her. When she brought to me, the tech stated my cat was groggy and to just becareful as she might be wobbly. That was all she told me. I took my cat home, she ate and drank water, then threw up MANY times. Look Ahead was closed, so I called Valley Oak. I was told I should have been given more info on home care. The next day, I called to find out the lab results since I was told I would here by 11 and had not . I was treated very rudely. When I asked about the sedation, the girl was rude, stating my cat was NOT sedated. She argued over this. 2. Still no word on labs the next day. When I called, the girl thought I had all ready picked up the meds ( I had no clue why she would say that). After that got cleared up, I waited a while to make sure the meds were ready. When I got there, the receptionist was on the phone. So a tech helped me. She looked at the meds MANY times and seemed confused, she looked on the computer several times, walked to the back a few times, looked at meds, still confused and then walked off! The receptionist started to bag up the meds. I told her I wanted to speak to someone in charge, as the other girl was so confused and I don't want to take the wrong meds. The receptionist went in the back, came out and started to charge me, the confused girl poked her head out the door, asked what I wanted, said Ya, it's fine and took off. No one in charge came to talk to me! That was on Thursday. On Saturday, they called me.I thought it would be to see how my cat was doing on the meds. NOPE, I let the girl rattle on, telling me that my cat had thyroid issues, would need meds, the cost of meds, the frequency, and return visits. I about lost it, does this vet NOT know the irresponsible, unprofessional staff he has? I told the girl, that she really should be more alert as my cat has been on the meds for two days prior to this now phone call! She made so many excuses, it was so sad. I again asked to speak to someone in charge, that was ignored. TODAY, my cat is having some side affects from the meds of almost two weeks. I called at 9 am. I was told by Haley that the tech was busy, but would call me back in about 20 minutes. It is now 3 1/2 hours later and by no surprise, no return call! By the way, when the meds were handed to me, no one told me what to look out for. Go somewhere else, this place has no clue what they are doing. read more

I have had nothing but good experiences with look ahead. The employees are always very nice, and almost every time I go I walk in with my dogs, cats and horses and I am always seen within 20 minutes or so. They even gave me packs of flea meds for my cats for free! And that stuff is expensive and the gal just gave me one. It was very nice of her. My roommates cat had a wound from the previous night. We were trying to take him in on Saturday and called almost every veterinary place that most could not squeeze in. Some wanted to tack on a lot of shots/vaccinations that the cat already has....My friend referred me to Look Ahead Veterinary Services and I am so happy she did. They accommodated us right away, they were so calming and really took the time to care for the cat. I am very impressed and will refer anyone here. Hands down the most caring vets I've ever been to! I came to them under grave circumstances, my dog went into anaphylactic shock after another vets office gave him an injection. Look Ahead was the closest to my house so I raced my dog over and they saved his life. They were open and honest with me the whole time as to his condition and you could tell how much they care about the animals brought in there. Very comforting to distraught owners like myself as well. Once my dog was all recovered he didn't even want to leave them! They will be my regular vet from now on!! read more

WE just bought a mini-pig a couple of months ago and I wanted to have her spayed and couldn't find any vets around here that would do it and one person suggested Look Ahead Vet on Clark Rd. Well I've pretty much lived here all my life (with cats & dogs) and am pretty familiar with all the vets in the surrounding area but had never heard of this one (not even the name) so I Googled it and was happy & relieved when I read the reviews so I called them and they pretty much got me right in. I was still a little worried because it was a vet I wasn't familiar with BUT I really didn't want to traumatize Mildred (my pig) with a 2 hour + drive to the Sac. area or up North and with all the g00d reviews I went ahead with it and I'm sure glad I did !!! They were extremely fast, VERY kind & informational, AND Mildred is super happy and glad she's out of heat and won't have to deal with it ever again. The girls were all super nice in the office & the techs and I briefly spoke to Dr. Brown? and he was VERY nice and seemed VERY caring towards ALL the animals that were in there. I would highly recommend Look Ahead for anyone looking for a new vet !!! They treat large & small animals and I'm really thinking about leaving the vet I've been with for years and transferring my cats to them. The vet for large animal service was great. The one star has to do with the girls up front handling billing. This is the second time in a row a refund due to me was screwed up. The first one was a credit due for an over charge. This credit took nearly a month for the billing girls to get the refund correct and issued to my credit card. The most recent refund was issued to a credit card they had on file but it was not the one I used. I spent over an hour on the phone with the credit card company trying to straighten out the issue. There will not be a third issue as I have decided to change vets, not due to the vet but due to the office personnel. read more
