Took our rescue dog for a long overdue nail trimming. He was abused & neglected & we tried to trim his nails at home he became very panicked & traumatized & tried to bite us so we took him here. I warned them ahead of time & they decided to put a muzzle on him & I thought oh boy this is gonna traumatize him, but he did really, really well. He shook the whole time, & was extremely happy to get back in the car! Thank you Bark Avenue for doing an excellent job! Love the name (BARK Avenue) and the fact that it's on Park Avenue. Cute! It's kindof tough to find the entrance- the address is for the "back door" which features a sign that tells you to go around front to the entrance- doh! A sign at the edge of the parking lot on Myers (where the main entrance is located) would be helpful for customers. They managed to fit in my two small poodle and shih tzu mixes at the last minute on a Saturday (which is great in my book!) and they were friendly and didn't seem to rush upon our arrival. They seemed to genuinely care about my pups and let me escort them back to a holding kennel (which featured a small blanket/pad for them to snuggle up on) and kept them together, yet separated from the other dogs, which I liked. The facility seemed pretty clean, except for the (expected) hair from trimmed dogs, and I like that it was large and open; you can see the pups as they receive their treatments. I was a bit concerned however, that they didn't check over our vet records to verify vaccinations, etc., which makes me wonder if they typically check, but maybe were just in a hurry since they squeezed us in? Either way, I hope that they are usually more strict about checking vaccines/records for the health and safety of all the dogs they see! Other than that, check-in/drop-off was pretty painless and hassle free! After discussing the cuts (poodle feet- to eliminate places for foxtails to hide; all-over short but rounded, slightly trimmed faces; trimmed tails; trimmed ears) and special instructions/concerns for each dog, I left and hoped for the best. It took a few hours, but I received a phone call when they were all finished to come pick my precious pups up. Upon arrival, I didn't even recognize my babies because they were sooo cute! Great cuts, exactly like I asked for (except one of the two had her tail left long, but that's no big deal), fluffy, shiny, and complete with bows! They seemed really happy and well cared for, in addition to looking and smelling great! I also immediately checked their ears and nails, to ensure that they had been cleaned, plucked, and trimmed- they had. Their cuts were so even and well done, and the bows were just an adorable touch! I think I paid about $72 plus tip for both dogs' services (brush, shampoo, condition, blow dry, ears cleaned/plucked, nail trim, anal glands expressed), which is a great deal given the level of service. I've taken my Great Pyrenees to Bark Avenue twice now and I've been very pleased both times. My boy, Caius, lives life on the rough side. He gets rainy, muddy, dirty and matted like no other. On top of that, he weighs 135 pounds and is very shy around non-family members. I make my appointments at least a week in advance, generally for Wednesday afternoons. The staff is friendly and clearly loves the pups. Prices are VERY reasonable. I have been quoted as much as $90 for my dog's grooming (Petco). I don't even spend that much on MYSELF. Bark Avenue charges only $50 to wash and brush Caius. At 135 lbs, that is a very good price. They do not accept checks, though I'm not sure about credit cards or debit. I always pay cash. I don't have a lot of experience with pet groomers, but the grounds seem clean to me. When I arrive the staff lets me take Caius to a holding kennel where he gets a clean blanket to lay on until it's his turn. When I pick him up he is always in good spirits, and even better looks. This last time I asked for them to shave his tummy to help keep him cool, they didn't charge any extra and they got it exactly right. He literally sparkles he's so clean, it's a joy to pet him. Everyone 'oohs and ahhs' over how gorgeous he looks. The soap the use doesn't smell too strongly, but it does smell pleasantly clean. They always offer a treat on the way out, Caius wasn't interested in the jerky strip but we took it home and our Saint Bernard loved it. (she inhaled it, actually) I really, really love this place! I love being able to help a small local business, and Bark Avenue has the price that allows me to do it! read more

Do not take your dog here. They have no knowledge of a Northern breed. Shaved a husky bald! Unprofessional response if I can't glue the hair on! Rude and extremely unprofessional staff. After waiting a week to have my cat groomed due to someone being out with a migraine we were finally able to get him in. They then called to tell me that the refuse to groom him as he is "mean as shit" and dangerous. Which he absolutely is not dangerous or mean. I will never be coming back here. read more

I have read the reviews before I tried them and to be honest I was a little nervous. However, to make a decision it needs to be your own decision and not someone else's on how you feel. After all, no one the true circumstances. Anyway I am SOOO GLAD I went. Groomers are super nice and my baby came out PERFECTLY groomed. She was even offered a treat. The fact that it is open to see the grooms being done and was even able to walk her to the kennel. So STRESSFREE I will be going Back. Check For yourself. read more

I've always been very pleased with the way they've taken care of my dogs but this recent grooming was a disappointment. I was in a hurry when I picked up my dog and didn't notice until we got home that her nails weren't trimmed, nor was her rear end. When I brought her back I was told that I had to specifically ask for that. I said that I had asked and then I was told that if I wanted her rear trimmed to ask specifically for a back trim. I was happy with the job when it was done the second time but it left me wondering what happened to the person that did it before? They did such a good job and didn't have to have any specific direction. Plus for forty dollars I would have been ashamed to have a dog leave my shop with long nails and shaggy feet. Have been taking my FIVE POUND Pom Bella here for a few months now, she has some separation anxieties so I always stay and everything was fine. Last time I stepped out to take a call & she said she behaved better when I was out so today I stayed outside until I heard her crying like a newborn baby. Not yelping, not barking, CRYING. I came in she said she don't like the blow dryer. Ok so I walked back out & waited. They called me in when she was done and I didn't examine her as she ran to me in a hurry to get away fm her. She went to bed when we got home and I checked on her a few hours later to find she had big red sores & bruises all over her belly and a scrape/cut on the end of her whowho along w some blood around the bottom of it. I took a flashlight and checked thru her fur and she had more cuts & bruises all over her body. I know a vet won't help for bruises & will give me cream for the cuts so my husband won't let me take her in. Please don't take your pet here if you love them... read more

I've always taken my 5 pound 4yr old Pom to the groomer & stayed with her. We've been here a handful of times, not our usual but convenient and nice, or so I thought. Well, last time I stepped out for a phone call and the owner of this place who was grooming her said she behaved better when I was out so yesterday I took her & hung out outside, UNTIL I heard her crying like a baby. Not barking, not whining, CRYING like I've never heard her do before so I went to check & they said oh she don't like the blow dryer. I said ok and stepped bk out listening to more cries almost crying myself. She finished her up and let her down, I paid and grabbed her & walked out. When we got home, she went straight to bed where she has been for the last 24hours since, I checked on her a few hours after getting home & found she has some severe cuts, bruises, and abrasions all over her as well as a huge sore on the end of her whowho & dry blood all around it. I saw them on her belly clearly then took a flashlight to check all over and found about 10 more under her fur. A friend who used to groom said it looks like pinch marks and the awful red lesions look like someone roughed her up with the brush. I wrote a review on yelp, I filed a complaint with the better business bureau and now this. My next step is to have giant posters printed up and sit out front showing everyone who goes in what they did to my poor baby. I have taken my yorkies here for a couple of years, The girl that always cut their hair have moved on, so the last 2 hair cuts have been with different girls. I specifically asked for the whole body shave with teddy bear faces with tipped ears. When I went and picked them up there whole body and faces were completely shaved, NO teddy bear face or tipped ears. I will never take any of my dogs here again!!! read more

They got us in on short notice, which was great! Very friendly! Large, bustling operation, which honestly surprised me. They were busy, which I'm sure made little Zoe (a Shih Tzu) nervous, but she was so happy with her fresh cut when I picked her up... and so was I! I really wanted to love this place!! I called late in the day on Saturday- 1:00 and asked if they could take three dogs!! I have one dog and my mom has two. To my surprise Christine happily told me yes bring them at 3:00. Upon arriving she let me know she misunderstood and thought I had said two. She still took all three and more than that seemed happy to have the business. I am from out of the area and usually take my dog to another groomer in town but they close early on Saturday so I thought I'd try Bark Avenue. Christine called me at 5:00 to let me know the dogs were ready. When I picked them up they seemed happy and clean. I didn't look closely and all seemed well. I left a 20% tip - pretty typical for me but Christine seemed surprised and asked if I was sure that amount was what I wanted to add to the credit card charge. I was. I brought all the dogs back to my mom's house. Again all seemed well. All of a sudden I heard a gasp and my mom asked if I had asked to have my dog's pantaloons cut off. I have a Japanese Chin - they are supposed to have longer hair - the ears, longer on the feet, tail, pantaloons. A longer haired dog. One coat - hair not fur. She had had very long pantaloons - almost to the ground which is how they are supposed to look. I unfortunately had to cut several inches off myself a couple months ago as she had some tummy trouble. I was a bit sad but it was necessary and she still retained the look of her breed. But upon bring her home I soon realized that all of her pantaloons were GONE - her backside was essentially shaved!!! She was left long in the middle and the front - her tail was left long but her pantaloons were GONE!!! I was shocked and not happy - this is not how this breed of dog should look. I couldn't get a good look though because she was carrying herself differently and well hiding her booty. I was really not happy. But - Ok - it's just hair and it will grow back - I was willing to let it go. But then I noticed my poor girl was scurrying rather than prancing around like she usually does and immediately upon getting to her destination she would quickly sit down. Her tail was down and she was just acting strange. I thought after a couple days she would acclimate and start moving around as normal for her. She tends to be a very sensitive and somewhat nervous little doggy so I thought maybe after a day or two things would get back to normal. Nope!! I wasn't really able to tell until I brought her home the following Tuesday - three days later. At my mom's house she is able to go in the yard on her own and I didn't follow her out to get a good look at her. At my house she needs to be walked on a leash. I was so upset when I took her out. She again scurried from place to place and every few feet sat down. She sometimes scooted which I had noticed earlier. OK - at this point I had to call the groomer. I called and asked to talked to Christine. Upon explaining the situation she listened but didn't seem overly concerned - not apologetic in the least. She said she would put a note in the computer. I brought to her attention that when she told me she was going to trim up the back - it wasn't clear to me that she was going to completely change the look of my dog and shave all her pantaloons off. I just really got the impression that she wasn't that concerned. I then expressed more clearly that I really was not pleased with the look of my dog's new cut. Again I didn't feel as if she was concerned. I expressed that I probably would have let it go if it was just the aesthetic piece - hair does grow back. I tried to make it clear that the change had significantly impacted my dog's behavior and how she carries herself. She then told me it was most likely due to issues with my dogs anal glands!! This is when I decided to write this review. My dog has been groomed numerous times - never has her hair been cut this short. She does not scoot around after being groomed. She is unhappy and feels strange with the fact that all the hair was cut off her "bum". I did some research on line and there are vets thats share that dogs can be sensitive to this and feel "embarrassed" by the bareness of their body. I am extraordinarily unsatisfied with my experience here and even more disappointed by how Christine handled the situation when I called her. She shaved the back of my dog without my permission changing the look of her - this hair will not grow back for at least four months - but more than that her carelessness has affected the behavior of my poor dog. She will not stand for long periods and will not walk more than a few feet without sitting down. I understand that things happen but it is how the error is handled that matters. I don't feel as if my concerns were addressed and rather than accept responsibility for her error she blamed my dogs behavior on her anal glands. Shame shame sham read more

I took my female doxy to Christine as a walk-in to trim her nails and the hair around her feet (she is a semi long hair). She did a good job and was professional. A couple of weeks later I brought both doxies to Christine to trim my short hair's nails and smooth the coat on the long hair and trim nails. She did an excellent job. read more
