One of the lifeguards constantly crossed personal boundaries and eventually called me an alcoholic because I did not accept his unsolicited medical advice. The aquatics director and CEO made me stand in his office despite me telling the CEO that I cannot stand or sit for an extended period due to chronic pain and my disability, and while making me stand and listen to him repeat everything he said over email, they both basically took the side of the lifeguard, suggesting without asking the offensive party that the lifeguard was "joking" and I was more or less holding a grudge. They even suggested that the Bayside pool wasn't the right pool for me because I was offended by being called an alcoholic by this lifeguard. They never asked the lifeguard to apologize to me after I requested an apology. I do not feel respected at this YMCA branch. Another issue is the staff don't tell you that there's an additional annual fee on top of the regular monthly fee and joiner's fee until after you've joined. I reached out to the same CEO and membership director about this issue, and have been met with silence for over a month. But when they didn't like that I complained about a lifeguard slandering me and his continued foul mannerisms towards me, the CEO wouldn't leave me alone constantly emailing me and demanding I go into his office when I asked for a phone call to accommodate my disability to address the issue.

Their family membership is an excellent value when you take into consideration the complementary child care. Their pool and locker facilities were recently renovated and are very nice. The YMCA offers a wide variety of classes, and although the selection might not be as robust as other facilities, I have enjoyed them. The cardio/weights room, where I spend a lot of time has been updated with brand new equipment and is well managed - there are typically available cardio machines in the busy morning hours. This Y is also located next to the East Bay Bike Path - so one can easily bike here, and go out running during or after a visit. Bottom line a good value, a good facility for the area.

The service at this gym is personal, the environment is friendly, the equipment is well maintained, the showers clean and the dry sauna is great. The bonus is the food bar where nutritious smoothies are made. Highly recommend this gym to anyone looking for a good workout in a friendly atmosphere. Would like to give a shout out to Sherry L, the personal trainer I worked with. Sherry worked with me to develop a strength plan based on age, health history and goals. We used a variety of equipment including free weights, machines, TRX etc. Sherry is very knowledgeable with equipment technique and communicates in a friendly way. She is organized and had terrific follow up after each session. Worth the money to learn how to correctly use the equipment and prevent injury. Thank you Sherry.

Staff is friendly and accommodating. They are always looking to improve. A little pricier than other gyms in the area - if you aren't going to attend any classes, I am not sure if the added expense would be worth it. But if you like gym classes at all.... I think my favorite part about this gym is the excellent temperature control. Nothing's worse than a room temperature gym. All of the rooms for classes (each class has it's own room because the place is HUGE) are decorated, classy, and properly cooled. They have smaller sized changing room then is normal for most gyms, but it does have two showers, two bathrooms, and two sinks. Lockers and towels are free. There are plenty of machines, a room for women only, and from what I've seen it's never been too busy. 426 looks like a big warehouse, but they've done a really nice job with it. The manager, Paul, is also very nice - you can get a free 3 day pass to try out the gym and there are a ton of different priced membership/qasi-membership options depending on what you want to use the gym for. They have a parking lot off of Rosa street, with plenty of parking.

The staff are all SO wonderful! When I initially signed up it was hectic chaos surrounding us, but the admin at the desk was the most patient, informative, sweetest soul. They all are! You can tell employees genuinely enjoy one another here and are passionate about their community. This gym might be older but overall has everything you need, plus it's clean and they make all necessary updates. This gym and the people here restore my faith in humanity most days; finally, a gym to get excited about walking into :)

This is among the better gyms in the area, and it has a lot going for it. Staff are fantastic,…read moreequipment is very clean and well maintained, the amenities are nice, and the overall environment and vibes are great. However, it also has a big issue holding it back from being a truly great gym. Despite having among the highest fees in the area, equipment variety is lacking for both machines and free weights. For the latter, the problem is pretty simple: there's only one squat rack and dumbbell weight only goes to 100 lbs. Several of their competitors in the area have multiple racks and dumbbell weights that go to 125 or 150. If you need to squat or overhead press and someone is using the only rack, you're out of luck. If you want to incline bench with safeties, do rack pulls, or do Romanian Deadlifts without conventional deadlifting the bar up to the starting position then you prevent anyone else from squatting. It's unfortunate. Their machines are largely a mix of Nautilus, Precor, Icarian, and Paramount, with the Precor pieces being the newest and by far the standouts in terms of quality (for example they have easily the best preacher curl machine in the greater NB area). The Paramount machines are well-maintained, but they're quite old and have relatively low amounts of weight on their stacks. The Icarians basically all work great despite their age, and the Nautilus machines run the gamut from fantastic to kind of awful. For the most part the bases are covered, and there's a few exceptional pieces mixed in like the aforementioned preacher curl machine, but there's certain holes: 1. No hack squat, which especially stings since there's only one squat rack. Nautilus makes a great hack squat, it'd be nice to see one. 2. Both identical seated leg curl machines use a really uncomfortable and unusual design instead of the standard thigh pad you usually see. Swapping one for a different machine that uses the typical design would go a long way. 3. No pec deck 4. Unusually low stack weights for several important leg machines like Leg extensions, Calf raises, Adductors, and Abductors, all of which max out at weights 50-100+ pounds less than what many of these types of machines usually have. 5. Both of the identical nautilus chest press machines (the only chest machines in the whole gym) are quite underwhelming, which is ironic since Nautilus also makes IMO one of the best machine chest presses on the market in the form of the Nautilus Leverage Flat Press. This really has the potential to be by far the best gym in the area with just a few investments in their equipment, and they could appeal fully to trainees of all experience levels and motivations. I hope to see them do so, but in the mean time it's an unfortunate unrealized potential.

Best time to go is in the mornings, as the late afternoons/evenings seem to be busiest at this gym. Gym is super clean with well-maintained equipment of various types, from dumbbells to barbells, cables and various machines to work out the different muscles in your body. Also has some group fitness rooms and a basketball/raquetball court which looks really nice, as well as a cycling studio. Locker rooms are pretty clean with showers and a sauna. Lastly, there is the hydromassage machines which were really relaxing to use, however they cost extra aside from the regular gym membership. Gym staff is very friendly and accommodating, from the personal trainers to the people that work the front desk, as well as the fellow patrons that attend this gym. For those looking for a good gym in the area, I would recommend this place for sure!
