I've had an absolutely terrible experience being a member here thanks to the woman with the black hair who works the front desk during the week. I'm inclined to think she must be related to the owner because I have no idea why else you would keep someone so incredibly rude to customers working at your establishment. I hear the owner, Scott, is very nice but I will not be renewing my membership based on the multiple terrible experiences I have had with this woman's attitude. I had otherwise been enjoying my membership. Many other members seem to agree with trying to avoid her based on her attitude. Very disappointing! I'm sorry Scott, but she is NOT an asset to this gym. She is rather very much a hinderance to business. I won't contribute to a gym who keeps someone like this working there. read more

they have a lot of machines. Way more than most gyms. I haven't been in the sauna yet, but I know they have one for the women and one for the men.. I like that the women have a place where they can work out without men being around but if we want, we can go downstairs and work out with the men as well. I think they need to brighten up the place up a little bit. Well, "a lot a bit". it's kind of dark and dingy. Also a little more expensive than most places. With that price, they SHOULD have a swimming pool but they DON'T. Then again I'd be afraid the swimming pool would be as dark and dingy as the rest of the place. read more

There is a new owner (Bought the place in March 2020) who is always incredibly friendly and has been doing some incredible things here. He's constantly updating and maintaining gym equipment, adding new pieces, and has upgraded the place tremendously in the last year and half. As a PL/BB, this place has literally ALL the toys: a huge variety of leg, back, arm, shoulder, and chest machines that make fulfill any lifters dream. Lifting isn't your thing? There is an entire upstairs FILLED with cardio machines and a running track. Are you a female who wants some privacy? There is also a women only section that has a boat load of machines and cardio equipment. This gym is pretty special. read more

this gym is the best i have ever experienced! The staff is amazing, and welcoming. Scott takes his time to chat with people when he can. This place is great the vibe is what I'm looking for. Im a healthcare worker and work all day, about 10-12 hours a day through out the week. My only down rating is that they're supposed to be open till 9:30 and there is one employee and when it's her shift at night she closes the gym 5-10 min early. For someone who tries to make it here on time after working all day it's aggravating to lose that extra 5-10 mins. I've heard a couple of gym goers say the same thing. There's plenty of equipment. Best Gym in Fall River. Making the place look better by the day. Renovating little by little. Bringing in new machines, apparel, and look to the gym. Scott is a great owner. They added meals to the shake bar which is a huge plus if you're in a rush. 2 Floors full of equipment, women's only section, abundance of different classes, and great trainers. The gym itself is nice & spacious, good for a workout, but the downside is that everytime that I'm there, I never see people cleaning the machines, GROSS! After being a member for 2 years, I decided to give somewhere else a shot, since this gym was out of my way, I paid my last month there, canceled my membership, seemed easy enough. 2 months later I receive a letter at home from twin oaks stating that I didn't pay $40 for my last months membership! Now everytime I call I get the run around, and when I've gone in person, they tell me they can't do anything only the owner can (who is apparently never there). I recommend General Fitness over WOW in Fall River for a few reasons: 1) GF posts their prices on the board at the front desk - no BS, no "let me get my manager and see what we knock off car - dealer crap 2) GF has every piece of equipment known to man - full icarian, strive, hammer strength - what gym has a room for arms or a room for shoulders 3) They have a women's only area and a pretty robust class schedule. 4) Parking situation is better than WOW The negative on GF for some people is that they are intimidated and/or consider it a meathead gym. So if you're the kind of person that is intimidated instead of motivated by an "intense" gym atmosphere to say the least, this might not be a good fit. Been coming here on and off for 10+ years and have always found the rest of members willing to lend a spot when needed or tell me where something is if I couldn't find it. read more

I have been going to general fitness for a few years and I was very satisfied until covid hit and everything shut down they never notified me when they were opening and that they were going to take money from my account they've been taking money from my account every month for a year without my acknowledgement without me even signing the yearly renew a year lease I notified them they assured me that my membership was canceled but they are still taking my money out of my account to the point where I had to cancel my account so they can stop taking money from my account I have not been to that gym since March 16th of 2020 and every month they continue on taking money from me no one wants to contact me regarding this issue so I had no choice but to go through the Attorney General's office they are horrible people read more

The Pros: The place is enormous, comprising 2 floors of an old mill. There is ample equipment, weights, machines, plus well-attended classes. A very good combination of weights and cardio options. The Cons: The place is lacking in maintenance, with far too many of the machines damaged or inoperable at any given time. In management's defense, it doesn't help that the membership includes a fair number of individuals who disrespect every basic tenet of civility, courtesy and hygiene. read more

The gym is cool especially for the more serious Trainers. It's huge and you get good service there. My only issue is how dirty it is. I get that there's spray for machine and wash clothes, but it's soooo gross putting your water bottle in the cup holders. omg!!! Disgusting & I've never been to a gym that dirty. Other than that I like. expect some rudness, it's a fall river thing. read more

I've been going to General for about a year now. I agree with the above review in the fact that it can be a bit intimidating, as there are a lot of BIG dudes that go here, and a few women. Scott, the owner/manager is an awesome person. He pretty much knows everyone by first name and was surprised when he remember my husband and i after our first week. He's a no BS kinda of guy and they definately do not have you sign any kind of contract. In fact, they just lowered their prices and included tanning, classes and day care. There is an all woman's section (which is huge) if you feel weird about lifting with guys. read more

I like this gym a lot just hate t h at it closes at 9:30pm. More serious lifters like stated in the other reviews even more of a reason it should stay open til at least midnight. I agree. Scott, the owner is a really nice guy. Any issues take it eith him...he cares. Womens section is huge, ghe entire gym is huge. I never had to wait for a machine. Weight r old & they coukd do a better job cleaning equipment. Can sometimes smell bad & know its bacteria all over. I suggest you visit all local gyms before deciding. read more

Have been going to GF on and off since 1998, Its what a real gym is supposed to be, not your modern coorporate groan metered gym.. The place is huge, has every machine known to man..Yes, there are some big guys in there that are very serious about their workouts, I tend not to be intimidated by it, but rather be motivated by it !!!! Everyone there minds their own business, and does their own thing.. As for the employees, I could'nt even tell you their names !!! lol.. Whenever I go to the service desk either to buy something or ask something they are always helpful.. I met Scott the owner a few times,and spoke to him on different occasions, seems like a good guy and a straight shooter.. I was impressed because he called me by my first name when I did'nt even know who the hell he was !!! As for the hours, I wish it was open a little later especially on the weekends, but its all good, the hours work for me... The $25 per month in this day and age, is really nothing to complain about.. read more
