The restaurants were fantastic (apart from Huck's, the food was cold here), with Strada being a particular favourite. Being just the two of us we spent some time in the spa, which although expensive, was very relaxing and got us into the holiday mood. We stayed in a Woodland lodge and I belive it is worth paying the little bit extra for this, they are much better than the comfort lodges.

Although we've been here at all different times of the year, we love coming here in the winter because after dark is when the place really looks its best - the path lights twinkle through the trees and the plaza dome looks like something from outer space! Swimming outside in warm water or heading down the rapids when it's dark and freezing cold is surreal, and even just watching is amazing - the steam rising off the water into the crisp winter air is magical. The only thing that stops me from giving this place five stars is the price - it's not the cheapest holiday, especially when you factor in eating out, activities and all the shops that you have to get the kids past on the way to and from the swimming pool!

Horse world is a fantastic day out. Horse world rescue,…read morerehabilitate and rehome animals who have been abandoned, neglected or ill-treated. You can Touch & Groom the Animals watch show and take a tracter ride. All the horses have information about them on their stable door which is interesting, they are all very friendly and love beening stroked. Horse world as a play area for the children indoor and outdoor. A very good cafe and the staff are very friendly, and enjoy taking to you about the animals.

This…read moreis my favourite of the UK based venues - the rest of the family are big fans of Elveden - flatter and more compact. It rained all week on our last visit but didn't stop the fun. They all have great pools - the kids love the rapid runs snaking outside. Make sure you book your activities early to make sure you get the slots you want - on our latest visit we competed in badminton and pool tournaments, sampled archery, dared to face the aerial challenge including the zipwire over the lake, got splatted at paintball and relaxed in the aqua sana. We have come home for a rest. Accommodation is decent and staff friendly - the grounds are well kept and yes there are lots of hills here. Manageable without a car - only a short trip from Warminster Station. Its a bit like a visit to waitrose in a forest...lots of guardian reading middle class parents struggling to cope without mobile reception.....Already planning our next visit......

In walking distance to downtown. 5 min to the Roman baths and all the shopping. Had dinner here the first night. Can get pricey. We ate at pubs in town the feast of our stay. Had breakfast package. Breakfast is a wonderful spread with hot dishes on order. Staff can get a little mixed up for delivery, but adds to the charm. Would stay here again. American in England

Avon wildlife trust's main education centre on all matters green is great for kids and parents with a thirst for knowledge. The gorge, woodland and meadow around is prime dog-walking territory, so frolic in the wildlife garden and spend an afternoon flexing your environmental muscles - you'll feel renewed!

This is a lovely relaxed little place which is perfect for a gentle bite and a relaxing stroll…read more Would it be bad to admit that I generally gravitate towards this place when hungover? Basically they do a big, cheap fry up which is just the job. And what better way to walk it off than by taking a quick stroll to see exactly where your food came from? They also serve up simple soups, baguettes, etc and when the weather's nice they've got a nice big outdoor area with a view of the farm. This lovely little place is under threat of closure at the moment, though, so you may need to get in while you can.

She…read moreloves looking at the ducks and chickens, goats, sheep, pigs, rabbits and the lovely calves who are being reared for veal (a meat I am incredible passionate about) The farm has a lovely little cafe which sells light meals, sandwiches and jacket potatoes, where possible they use produce from the farm and all meals are very reasonably priced. There is also a really lovely playground with a great sandpit and climbing tower for bigger kids. The farm is free to visit but I always put a couple of quid in the collection box as it is run by volunteers and is funded by donations.
