It is time to spread the word about this place on Yelp. Several years ago I became interested in learning some real striking to complement my grappling, and after doing some research I stumbled upon this place by pure coincidence. At first I was trying to find a Muay Thai gym, and came upon the Long Beach Kickboxing Center through this article: http://www.presstelegram.com/ci_6273151 Needless to say, I was very intrigued and visited the gym shortly after to schedule a private lesson. I met Oumry Ban, the former Camobidan national champion of 5 years, who was a very nice guy,and just has positive energy. You just feel like you are dealing with a very kind person when you're around him. Up to this point, the only striking I ever did was Tae Kwon Do, so I really had no idea what to expect. The lesson was awesome, during the 90 minutes we went through the whole deal. First they wrapped my hands, then after putting on gloves I did punching work in the ring on pads, learned fundamentals of elbow and knee strikes, and started kick training as well. This is first class instruction, where the instructor is always watching you, correcting you, giving you advice, praising you when you're doing the right thing. It is one hell of a workout, be forewarned. This was years ago, and now all the strikes are pretty much second nature to me. This is the kind of training that will actually work real world situations, this is not for show. People use it to compete in MMA, in Muay Thai bouts, and for self defense, and it works. Everyone here is cool, there has never been any of that clique or insider vibe that I've seen at some of other fighting camps. Theres thai boxing gyms that are a lot closer to where I live, but I happily drive out the 20 miles or so to get quality instruction from a world class champion in a great environment. Whether you want an insane workout or want to learn striking, (or any of the dozens of reasons people start) it's definitely worth your time to give this place a shot. It has changed my life in such a positive way I can't really put it all down in this one review.

Best place to train kickboxing the Cambodian way. If you want to be a lethal weapon out there, this is where you must train.

If you want real kickboxing training this is the place to be. Wish I didn't have a weird work schedule I would go everyday.

A place that isn't toxic, that has respectful regulars who aren't territorial, a place where people offer their hand and give their name first before asking for yours. You'd be surprised at how openly hostile, rude, tribal, clique-y, and toxic a fighting gym can be. (Or maybe you aren't) Regardless, the rare places that aren't like that, you gotta hold onto. Not to mention, you have to have a coach who took the time, paid "the dues", and is passionate about the art. The DEN, I can assure is one of those places. If you're curious about the art of 8 limbs, or if you're somebody who wants to fully get into it. Stop by the Den! 10/10 would recommend. On a side note.....Coach James is one of the great "what-ifs" of the sport. In my mind, he could have been an incredible professional fighter. But, in his own words, "I never liked the spot light and I don't like getting too much attention." But "I just love Muay Thai, and I'm getting to do what I love." But don't let the sentiment fool you. He's an absolute beast in the ring, and guys nearly 20 years his junior have a hard time keeping up with him when they spar. The gym also is quite "Spartan", no frills, no expensive machines, one punching bag, a few weights, a bathroom, an equipment room, a mat area, and a ring. That's about it. Everyone gets nice a close on a busy day, but for me, that's kind of the charm of the place. No crazy amenities, just a temple dedicated to the striking art. The regulars, including the guys who have been coming for years, are remarkably laid-back individuals. No real chip on anyone's shoulders, no one is trying to prove anything, just a bunch of real enthusiasts of the art. Case in point, I'm surprised to find that after a few weeks, a bunch of them even remembered my name, gave me a fist bump, and welcomed me back. But again, don't let the sentiment fool you, if you punch hard, they'll punch back harder, and if you think you keep up with them, they'll take you to depths you haven't been before. There are levels to this game, and there a people there who are going to be 2-3 levels above you. My advice, be friendly, be consistent, be respectful, and stay humble.

Our daughter Delilah has been training here, and we've decided without hesitation to keep her enrolled long-term. From day one, Coaches Warren, Alex, Jefferson and all the coaches at BTT have been nothing short of phenomenal. They've shown an incredible amount of patience, dedication, and care with Delilah, and it's clear they genuinely love what they do. What really stood out to us is how they treat each child as an individual, recognizing where they are in their journey and guiding them not just physically, but emotionally and mentally as well. They give each student personalized attention while also nurturing a strong sense of discipline, confidence, and respect. The environment is supportive, structured, and full of positive energy. You can see how much the kids are enjoying themselves while learning real skills. There's a beautiful balance here between focus and fun, and as parents, that means the world to us. We're so thankful to have found a place that not only teaches technique, but also reinforces character development. Brazilian Top Team Long Beach has already made a lasting impression on our family, and we're excited to see Delilah continue to grow here. Thank you again to Coaches Warren, Alex, and Jefferson and all the coaches at BTT for everything you pour into these kids. I was immediately hooked. This is a two part review as we have two members in the household: Kids Classes: There are two kids groups. 4-8 and 9-13 My daughter is in the 4-8 class. The coaches are attentive and incredibly patient with the kids while still pushing the kids to be the best versions of themselves. Since signing her up. I've noticed a big boost in my daughter's confidence, attentiveness, and there have been benefits in the classroom as she does a better job staying focused and listening to her teachers. Adults: I had prior experience from a different academy when I was younger and was turned away from jiu jitsu till coming to BTT and now I'm obsessed with this beautiful sport. The instructors are all incredibly detail oriented and do a great job of breaking things down starting from the fundamentals classes to the more intermediate/advanced classes. The original goal was to help lose some weight and that has happened, but the greatest accomplishments have been helping find an outlet for the normal stress/ anxiety of a parent along with finding and befriending an incredible community of people that are there for you on and off that mats. If you're even thinking about giving it a shot. Do it. You won't regret it.

He has challenges with focus and self-control at times which is precisely why we wanted to enroll him in the Krav Classes. He started in the Lil Dragons program, and after about 4 months he was promoted to the Juniors program because he was doing so well. HERE is where it gets sad...he was told we would "trial" the Juniors class to see how he would do. After 6 weeks, he having difficulty with focus and self-control in the larger setting, but was making improvements over the last few sessions based on staff report and my observation. This past Tuesday, he wasn't paying attention and accidentally punched another kid in the face with his glove on (not hard but I'm sure it still hurt...he apologized to the child and resumed the class). I recommended that we put him back in the smaller class considering that my son was thriving in Lil Dragons, and he was consistently practicing safe partner work in Lil Dragons so there is no reason he would not thrive there again. Trying out lil Dragons to see how he does again posed no risk to anyone's safety. He just has ongoing challenges with focus and self-control which impacted his performance overall in the larger class. My son in a smaller class size would have more adult support and less distractions which would ultimately help him focus. This issue with the partner work the other day was not aggression, it was a lack of focus that resulted in a punch to someone's face (focus is precisely what a smaller class would support and DID support as of 6 weeks ago). 360 Krav's response was that he wouldn't be appropriate for the Lil Dragons class either (even though he was doing so well there 6 weeks ago that he was promoted!)...effectively expelling him from the program altogether. How 360 Krav has handled this is totally unacceptable. You promoted him to "try" out a new class...it was not a good fit, and now you are not letting him go back to the class that he was successful in. This is a disgraceful way to teach...you are literally punishing a child for being brave enough to try something new and then failing at it.
