First year of club is coming to an end. We have had a great experience here. Micha and Christine…read moreare coaching and have done well. The season started with tryouts and all parents (from what we noticed) received one on one time with the coaching staff. I assume so we could all get to know the staff and start to open lines of communication. Micha also shared his expectations for this team so that all parents could know what we were getting our families into. Back office stuff was smooth. Brittany was on top of payments and merch that we asked for. Calendars, uniforms and group chats were all communicated without prompting by us. Interpersonal dynamics between girls was positive and pleasant. Coaching and goal setting was set from the beginning, as a parent I appreciated this as our goals aligned. During practice and tournaments the coaching staff was always professional and coached the players with development in mind. U14 is almost done. Stay tuned next spring for the U15 review as the best reviews have follow ups.

Don't waste your money- Paid 3k for this club on October 1st (season didn't start till Nov/Dec) End…read moreof October we lost our home and had to move pretty far. I reached out to the owner Micah, told him our situation. Season had not even started, he asked me to send him an email and he'd refund my payment. Sent several emails and never heard back from him. Very inhumane, dishonest and disappointing. Do your research and read reviews before considering this club.

AREC is a super social running group. I just moved here from Chicago and did a bit of research on…read morethe local running clubs, and chose to test out AREC for the first year or so. I like how the running clubs in LBC seem to be friendly and don't charge if you want to hop in for a weekly run. The annual dues are dirt cheap compared to my other running clubs, and include marathon or half marathon training. I also got a running shirt out of it. Definitely worth the money. The runs start and finish at Buster's Beach House, and it's a very casual atmosphere. You can run any mileage that you like and everybody meets up at Buster's for some good old fashioned fun after their run. (hehe, that rhymes). The club also has fun themed runs on holidays and kitschy runs like their annual poker run, where you collect 5 cards during the run and whomever has the best hand wins, so I gather. I'm happy with my choice, and I've made a few friends already!

This is a great running club in the heart of Long Beach (group meets near Joe's Crab Shack) and you…read morecan't beat its $25 annual membership fee. The group has multiple runs per week, with its longest run on Saturdays. It is very well organized with aid stations along the way. Maps are emailed a few days prior so you know exactly where you are going (plus there are many other runners on the route). One of my favorite things about the group is that the runs start promptly at 7 a.m. The runners are very friendly and membership includes discounts!!! I've been part of other clubs, and this is certainly my favorite.

This means they'll have priority registration, mandatory study hall, tutoring, and a group of peers with similar interests! They'll also be able to graduate on time! Many of Ohana Water Polo Academy graduates also went on to play in college and continue to get together when home on break. Thanks Ohana WPA for teaching my children discipline, loyalty and the benefits of hard work!

Excellent place to learn the game. They are also very competitive and sent several groups to the National Junior Olympics in NorCal this past summer. The high school age groups regularly have kids graduate and go on to play polo in college..very pleased with the whole program here, and so different from the other 'clubs' we have been a part of. Thank you Ohana!

We came here needing to shave off about 40 seconds in his swim time for the test and he was able to do it after just one week in this program! The coaches are so caring and approachable, and they really work on giving feedback on all aspects of swimming. I could see an improvement every time we showed up to the pool. I cannot recommend this program enough, thank you to all the coaches for helping my son pass his test! We couldn't have done it without you!

Horrible swim lessons for kids. Communication is poor and through emails/texts only. Alyssa who is…read morein charge does not provide clear instructions. My kids have ASD and there's different teachers each week; no consistency, no feedback. These instructors are young, mostly high-school students who have different styles and don't really have a lesson plan for each child. They don't really care because it's not like they'll be teaching the same child again. Like, how would you know what they're working on when there's a different person every week and they all have different styles of swimming?!?! The lanes are shared by 5 people (x2) so they're bumping into each other. It's crowded, and again no direction. This place uses the Cerritos College aquatic pool and you have to pay for parking. This place sucks! My kids didn't learn anything new. Stay away from this place! Go somewhere else.

Extremely disappointing experience…read more Had a very bad experience with this coach, Liz Lopez. The situation was handled in an extremely unprofessional and childish manner, and she took things far too personally instead of acting like a "coach." Communication and overall behavior were very disappointing, especially with kids around. Definitely not the kind of environment we expected from a club program. Parents should be aware before committing their kids here. I would strongly recommend thinking twice before joining this club.

I have been playing with this group for last 8 years, thanks to organizer Roman, I can honestly say…read morethat this group is currently the best beach volleyball group in Southern California (yes, been to many of them). Roman is a very responsible organizer, members of this group are very nice and highly skilled. Most of the 2s are high level players and 4s are advance intermediate. If you are a beginner, talk to Roman for best classes. Sometimes Roman invites Beach volleyball teachers for free classes for group members. There's plenty of parking in the parking lot next to where group plays. There are also restrooms in the swimming pool next to where group plays. Usually there are 3 courts for twos and 3 courts for fours, 36 people can play at the same time. I highly recommend for anyone who wants to play beach volleyball.

OK, when I went to CSULB, I'm pretty sure the only way to take a recreation class was to sign up…read morefor a 1 unit class or take something through extension, which was expensive. I'm glad to see this option for those in the community who are not necessarily students to be able to take fitness classes @ The Beach. Some of the classes look more geared toward faculty and staff and are offered during lunch hours, but some of them are open to the community and are in the evenings. The fitness classes include golf, rowbics, walking, belly dancing, hatha yoga, pilates, capoeira, stretching, water aerobics, and cross training. I've been taking the hatha yoga class, which at $40 for 6 weeks is a total bargain as far as yoga classes go - I highly recommend it. My only complaint is the schedule is related to the school's semester schedule, so there's been a big gap between the end of the spring schedule and the beginning of the summer schedule. I haven't really looked too closely at the other classes but from the flyer they are all very reasonably priced. Worth a look if you're on or near the CSULB campus. I've been focusing on the fitness & wellness classes, but CSULB Club Sports & Recreation also includes all of CSULB's competitive and noncompetitive sports clubs, which are many, as well as CSULB's recreation facilities, including the pool, track & fields, tennis courts, etc. In all my years of living in Long Beach on top of attending CSULB I never knew that the CSULB pool had open swim for the public for limited hours, for only $1! The racquetball courts are free and don't require reservations. CSULB Club Sports & Recreation also has Academic Enrichment Camps for kids during the summer. All in all, it's a very cool program.

Well, I'm only a freshman but it's AMAZING inside. 2 levels of exercising equipment, an indoor track upstairs, 2-3 racquetball rooms and rock climbing down stairs and not to mention the beautiful pool area outside! Their electronic lockers so you can make a pin and use it again to open it again. If you're unlucky, you get one that doesn't work like I did :( But the staff are more than happy to help you solve the problem, although I did it while only using a towel to cover myself. -___- But they end up putting an "Out of Order" sign on it. I usually go in the morning so it's not very crowded. However, passing by it during the afternoon and looking through the glass windows they have , ^____^, most of the machines are being used. We signed up our 4 1/2 year old for the 3 week bootcamp, and are amazed at our daughter's progress…read more Teacher Alex G was so incredibly patient, playful, and encouraging. Our daughter was initially extremely afraid and apprehensive getting used to her head under water. She cried bloody murder the entire first week. It was admittedly very difficult having to hear her scream the entire 15 minutes, but trust the process! Alex was so good with her and earned her trust. By the end of the second Monday, she got out of the water and exclaimed how much she loved swimming. I was shocked! Something just clicked. Not only did she get over her fear of having her head in the water, she loved it. She was able to roll, float on her back, and kick within the second week. She spent the third week refining skills and feeling more comfortable under water. We are so incredibly proud of the progress she's made in such a short amount of time. And while we feel so much better about the skills she's picked up, nothing can beat the confidence and resilience she's built along the way. Thanks, Teacher Alex!
