I'm glad to see this option for those in the community who are not necessarily students to be able to take fitness classes @ The Beach. Some of the classes look more geared toward faculty and staff and are offered during lunch hours, but some of them are open to the community and are in the evenings. The fitness classes include golf, rowbics, walking, belly dancing, hatha yoga, pilates, capoeira, stretching, water aerobics, and cross training. I've been taking the hatha yoga class, which at $40 for 6 weeks is a total bargain as far as yoga classes go - I highly recommend it. My only complaint is the schedule is related to the school's semester schedule, so there's been a big gap between the end of the spring schedule and the beginning of the summer schedule. I haven't really looked too closely at the other classes but from the flyer they are all very reasonably priced. Worth a look if you're on or near the CSULB campus. I've been focusing on the fitness & wellness classes, but CSULB Club Sports & Recreation also includes all of CSULB's competitive and noncompetitive sports clubs, which are many, as well as CSULB's recreation facilities, including the pool, track & fields, tennis courts, etc. In all my years of living in Long Beach on top of attending CSULB I never knew that the CSULB pool had open swim for the public for limited hours, for only $1! The racquetball courts are free and don't require reservations. CSULB Club Sports & Recreation also has Academic Enrichment Camps for kids during the summer. All in all, it's a very cool program.

Well, I'm only a freshman but it's AMAZING inside. 2 levels of exercising equipment, an indoor track upstairs, 2-3 racquetball rooms and rock climbing down stairs and not to mention the beautiful pool area outside! Oh yes, the sandy volley ball court also. They have cardio machines with a TV hooked onto individual ones! How cool's that? There are tons of lockers outside of locker rooms and inside. Their electronic lockers so you can make a pin and use it again to open it again. If you're unlucky, you get one that doesn't work like I did :( But the staff are more than happy to help you solve the problem, although I did it while only using a towel to cover myself. -___- But they end up putting an "Out of Order" sign on it. I usually go in the morning so it's not very crowded. However, passing by it during the afternoon and looking through the glass windows they have , ^____^, most of the machines are being used. The pool is well heated even at the opening time 5:30 in the morning. I love swimming at 5:30 early morning. So quiet, warmly heated, good music. Lifeguard is always here to watch out just in case of emergency. Group classes are great for both outdoor and indoor. Awesome!! Great gym for seniors, family and especially kids for swim lesson, events.

He trained both of my sons from a young age and now he is training my eight year old grandson. My two grand daughters will be at DG Boxing as they turn 7. DG is hard working, patient, gives clear instruction at the kids level and starts the kids slowly at a reasonable developmental pace. He does not just throw the kids in the ring and let them beat each other up. He brings them along at a pace that is suitable for each individual kid. Anyways, from my undergrad experience, the rock climbing wall was one of the best to get people into rock climbing. Secondly, the indoor running track provides space to the overall gym giving it a less crowded environment, and the equipment provided was well utilized. You often had people hogging the weight section so there was never really a good time to use that. The yoga and pilates classes or individual courses were offered but it never seemed to be around when a majority of students were available to use it. I really liked the Robeks that was on the first floor. I'm not sure if it's there anymore, but it's nice to had a large indoor seating area to eat before you actually went into the gym to study.

There are group fitness classes, personal trainers, and informational lectures. I have been part of their Strength for Living program since joining the LifeFit Center. S4L is a 16-week program, consisting of 8-10 participants, meeting 2 or 3 days per week. Pre-, mid-, and post-assessments help track your individual progress.
