The interior was rustic, spacious, with a warm and comforting ambiance. I wanted to try a little of everything, so ordered the Flame Mixed Grill ($67 NZ), which consisted of famous Ribs, grilled Sirloin Steak, Boerewors Sausage, rotisserie Peri Peri Chicken, along with roasted baby potatoes with sour cream. This took awhile to come out, but it was worth it! Ribs were sticky in a bold, smoky, tangy, savory BBQ sauce. The meat was delightfully tender. Steak was cooked perfectly, succulent, and well seasoned. Sausage was slightly charred and quite juicy, paired wonderfully with flavorful chimichurri. Chicken was not really my favorite, as I found it lacked flavor and was a bit dry. Potatoes were soft and pillowy that worked nicely with the creamy sour cream, but only 3 small ones. Service was solid. The waitress was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was tasty and it was a lovely, hearty feast of a dinner!

Main course was Venison loin. I can't say enough about how good the food was. Epic cheese platter with a Kiwi dessert red to pair for dessert. Our waiter, Sam, was everything you would want in a server. Knowledgeable, helpful, and gracious. It's a large place. We sat in leather upholstered wingback chairs -- very comfortable. My only criticism is that there isn't one in the U.S.

I ordered the French onion soup for an entree, the venison for the main plus the duck fat potatoes. Hands down the French onion soup was the most delicious thing I had all night, and probably in my two weeks in New Zealand. It was fantastic. The venison came out. Great presentation. But even with the sauces that it came with--the exception being the *two* bits of onion that came with the meal--it was very average. Not bad. It was cooked well. Rare as the chef suggested. But there was little there there. Definitely not as flavorsome as the French onion soup which set my expectations really high. Then the duck fat potatoes--are just potatoes? Like, literally chucks of potatoes (cooked well) but without any seasoning. No sauce. Nothing. Very bland potatoes. So in the end you had this really clunky meal that wasn't overwhelmingly delicious. It was just good. But this is meant to be a bit of an upscale joint for Queenstown, so it misses the mark. The exception to all of this mediocrity was the service. The service was impeccable. I should note there was a bit of time between the starter & the main but that's probably more of a back of the house issue. They do know how to cook things well, so I think if you come here for a steak, you probably won't be terribly disappointed. I expected a bit more. All that said, I would come back and drink gallons of that soup.

It's was crispy and chopped in bite size with vinegar drenched with red onions which gave the sauce a bit of a kick. That's a four star for me. The grilled salmon was cooked right. I chose to have this with plain steamed rice. The veggies were over buttered. I opted for grilled (or fried), it would be better if they didn't drench this with too much creamy butter. However, the veggies were steamed perfectly and fish was cooked the way I wanted it. I again give this a four stars rating. Now for the pork belly. One of the best part of the pork belly is its skin. Disappointing to note that the skin or "balat" was not crispy. Maybe they should try to figure out how to make this crispy. This would be a good dish for Filipino who crave for side pork or folks who are looking for the Filipino version of pork crackling. We (my friend and I) give this a three star rating. Overall rating of four stars. A good place to try Filipino cuisine if you're in town even if you have kids who would prefer to have pizza instead of the Filipino dishes.
