The Te Mana lamb shoulder is the dish to get here and it is absolutely delicious. Full stop. The slow-roasted lamb shoulder is what my YEA and I rewarded ourselves with after a day of hiking Roy's Peak nearby. It's definitely a dish for two but if you are feeling extra hungry then no shame in turning it into a food challenge for yourself. The meat is so tender and juicy as you easily cut through it. Each mouthful was wonderful. The root veggies were on point and the bacon cabbage medley was crunchy joy. There wasn't much table talk because we were just enjoying the dinner so much and having a "moment". The restaurant is easy to miss because it is on the second floor of a building and you have to look for that door that will lead you up a flight of stairs. The restaurant decor in the dining room is very soft on the eyes and it has this modern minimalist elegance to it. Cheers to the friendly and caring staff. They didn't have any problem when we wanted to switch to another table as the sun was setting and the sunlight was blinding me from the window. We went there for dinner and I think it might be one of the best places to dine in Wanaka. We ordered two dishes to share. The first was the lamb shoulder which is what the restaurant famous for. I highly recommend getting it given that the meat was really tender that it falls off the bone. Also the portion was very generous which means you will have a good meal for your money. We also ordered the duck dish which was just ok. It was small relative to the lamb dish. Also the meat wasn't as juicy and tender as the lamb. Obviously they are two different dishes, but I would recommend sticking to what this restaurant do best and it is the shoulder lamb dish. Finally we had two desserts the brownie and the sticky toffee pudding. I would skip the brownie if I were you and go with the pudding. The brownie was dry in the middle and I felt the raspberry sauce spoiled the chocolat taste. read more

So this is as good as it gets when eating out in Wanaka. The day before we had tried this korean hang out which was nice, but nothing in comparison to this lovely Gourmet Kitchen. We actually tried to get a spot here the first night we had arrived but it was fully booked, so we rebooked for the next day. It has a lovely atmosphere inside with dim lighting and well used spaces. But really the food was great! I went for the slow cooked lamb which is their specialty and as you can imagine New Zealand is known for its fresh and well prepared lamb and it didn't disappoint. It was accompanied by a lovely fresh mint sauce and roast potatoes. Classic. My friend got the fish - fresh from Lake Wanaka no doubt - also worthy! read more

We popped in as they opened without reservations and were seated immediately. Our dinner service and meals were great! The goat cheese filo app and duck dish with a broccoli side were on point. We stopped in without a reservation and were seated immediately. This is a rather small restaurant and is well staffed. My husband and I shared the 3 meat stone (fish, lamb, beef) it comes with a hot stone 400 degrees that you can slice a bite off and cook to your liking. Wish I could give 1/2 stars. Food is excellent!! Great wine, the pork belly was small - but really great. The Caprese was ridiculously small - but also tasty. The stone grill steaks are where this place truly shines! They bring out the stones heated to the same temperature as earth's magma & bring the raw meat out for you to cook yourself on the stone. This was perfect!!! We had 2 eye of fillet & 1 Rob Roy - and wow! My biggest complaint is the lack of attention from servers - we needed drinks often, because we sat there for nearly 2 hours. Most of that time was waiting for them to freshly slaughter the cows - so they could bring us fresh & raw meat. Seriously, though, I cannot fathom why it took over an hour to get our food when we were cooking it ourselves at the table. read more

This is a fairly new place. The chef is South African and moved to Wanaka from London. I think he and his wife run the restaurant. My husband and I ordered the slow cooked pork shoulder that comes with a couple sides. This is a large portion so it can be shared. This was very well prepared - meat was falling off the bone and it had a crispy exterior. We also ordered garlic shrimp as an appetizer which was pretty good too. They have a fairly good variety of beers. The chef came to our table to explain about the beers when we had questions. At the end of the meal, we were super stuffed. If you are looking for a slightly higher end meal, this would be a good option to try. read more

The lamb shoulder is amazing--yes, it's their signature dish for a reason! Great service, attentive and friendly.

My husband and I had a pretty good meal here. I thought it was a little expensive for what we got but it is Wanaka and right on the lake at that. We started with the chicken liver pate which was excellent! We then split the beef with chorizo and prawns on the cooking stone. The beef was a little tough to me but it may be because it was grass fed. It also came with chips (large cut fried potatoes) and a small green salad. The appetizer and a split entree was enough for the two of us. The dining area is small but nice. Reservations are recommended. read more

Very disappointing finning experience. The highlight of the meal was a truffle butter served with ciabatta. I ordered the gnocchi which was very disappointing, the gnocchi presented under cooked, sludgy and gooey. The mushroom tasted unlike mushrooms, they tasted of old grease. My husband had a scotch fillet and it was tasteless and sinuous. The cabbage was slightly under cooked but nice Smokey flavor. However when I expressed my feedback the Check-out guy debated. I paid for the entire meal in full, I did not expect anything different however I did expect some humility as he said he had had this feedback a few times previously. Won't go back. read more

One of my favorite restaurants we visited while vacationing in New Zealand!! We made a reservation the day before for a Saturday night and had no problems. We decided to start with their mac and cheese which was gooey goodness. My husband and I both had the eye filet which comes out on a volcanic rock. The steak comes out raw but cooks after it reaches your table so you're able to cook it exactly the way you want. I've never dined anywhere with this kind of experience and it was so much fun! We had it served with the salad and mashed potatoes as sides, as well as garlic butter to dip the steak in. TO DIE FOR. The only downside was it was already rather warm in the restaurant and then with the very hot volcanic rock plate, we ended up sweating throughout our meal but it was so good we didn't care ha! If you're in the Wanaka area, definitely splurge and try out WGK! read more
