It was time for the dreaded colonoscopy and my doctor referred me to Lone Star Endoscopy in Southlake. From the moment I walked in the front door I was treated with kindness. Emma the nurse in PreOp, Dr. Karen Steffens, Maria the recovery nurse were all exceptional in taking good care of me. The anesthesiologist (I think his name was Tony ???) was also great; he and Dr. Steffens spoke with me prior to the procedure to see if I had any questions or concerns and put me at ease. They all.work together like a well oiled machine to make this procedure go smoothly. read more

Dr Nishita Kara was rude, condescending, and defensive in my appointment eight months post colonoscopy. (Hard to get into, too.) I had pain and issues that never resolved (that I never had beforehand). I do not recommend this doctor for many reasons, but the lack of bedside manner put me over the top and ruined my day when I was trying to get help. People have to be driven by someone so that means they have to wait for procedure to finish in the wait room. In the wait room you have rusty metallic water fountain! You would think you could put in a cooler or coffee for the folks driving patients home. Plus we waited one hour before patient went back to procedure. Could have used water then too. read more

This place can be an extremely frustrating experience. My experience began when my doctor referred me to this particular surgery center and Dr. Lacey for a combination Endoscopy and Colonoscopy. I booked the dual procedure. When I was in the recovery room, the doctor told me of the results for the colonoscopy. When I asked about the endoscopy, he told me they hadn't performed it. He looked it up and discovered they made a scheduling error. So they booked me for an additional appointment to do the endoscopy. Because they were now separated into two different events, I was going to have to pay another ~$2000 for the second procedure. When I booked the second procedure - the endoscopy - they told me it would be $1800 out of pocket (after insurance). I paid it the day of the procedure. About a month later I get two more bills totaling $600 from medical companies I did not recognize - one for the doctor and the other for the anesthesiologist. Lone Star medical gives you no indication whatsoever that your bill is for one of several providers and/or that you will get additional bills from unidentified participants later. The messed up the scheduling of what was supposed to be a dual procedure, resulting in approx $2400 extra cost plus the cost of the initial procedure. This industry, and this surgery center in particular, feel like you're the unwilling participant in a deceitful shell game. Never again will I go to this place. read more

I've got to give this place high marks. My wife was here for her first colonoscopy. She was a bit nervous, and the welcoming staff eased her nerves. We arrived on time, were promptly greeted, and given some forms and paperwork. As Thuy worked on her questionnaire, I explored. I found the coffee machine, with a very nice selection of snacks and treats. I probably should have been more thoughtful of my wife, and those around me (who have not eaten for the past 12 hours), but I needed my coffee. The procedure started on time, and everything went fine. I was kept in the loop on all things, and brought back to recovery when the procedure was over. Everyone was helpful and carrying, and this greatly helped with my nerves. It's tough seeing a loved one knocked out like that. Bottom line: And we went home with some extreme close-ups! Yes I'm giving these guys 5 stars. I was not thrilled with the prep process, one of the worst experience ever but these guys made the process as comfortable as possible. You arrive an hour prior to your appt, they take you back and you are given a warmed gown and heated blanket. Nurse Stephanie was amazing even though the IV needle sucked left a large bruise- not her fault. They then wheel you into the OP where the scope takes place. You take a nice nap, wake up without any grogginess and off you go. Thank you Stephanie , team and Dr. Kara for taking good care of me. read more

This was my second time receiving care at Lone Star Endoscopy and the service was even better than I remembered 5-years ago! After registering with the reception desk, the nurse called my name after only 15 minutes and away I went. After changing into my warmed operation gown, I was ushered to a gurney and covered with a warmed blanket. I have had my share of procedures and operations, some of them occurring in very nice facilities but the warmed gown and blanket were a first for me and provided a nice, caring gesture and were an early indication of the 5-star service I would receive throughout the 90-minute procedure. Afterwards, Dr. M. came to see me and explained everything to me and my wife and even provided me with my own color picture booklet with explanation of the pictures taken during the various procedures. Went to the facility for a colonoscopy. Arrived after having spoke with my insurance provider and being told I didn't need to pay anything. The facility said I had to pay $1567.00 or I would not get the procedure. Called my insurance again while standing in the check in area and was told again, I did not need to pay. Clinic advised that the procedure would not happen until I paid upfront. Paid the $1567.00, got the procedure and now 7 months later, get a notice from my insurance that the clinic owes me the $1567.00 refund!!!! Now, no one at the clinic will answer the phone and I am still waiting for my refund!!! Very poor customer service and lack of acknowledgement from this business. Hoping the "back of house" is better than the Admissions experience. Had to re-enter information already provided online. One of the two front desk people was condescending when asked questions. I asked about my husbands ID status about 20 minutes after he went back and the clerk brought her keyboard to the monitor in order to find his ID. I told her that his information had not populated and she was curt, rolled her eyes, and told me that it "scrolls through". I'm not dumb. I watched it scroll through at least 6 times before I got up to ask. If she didn't have the keyboard she wouldn't have seen his number. Now that she's back behind her desk, his ID is no longer appearing. The point is, don't talk down to your guests. We are the reason you can pay your bills. read more

I look at the full lifecycle of the customer or patient experience. Based on this please find alternative care - e.g., UT Southwestern. The staff and procedure went fine but their billing operations is horrible which is now forcing me to waste hours of MY time to get the account status corrected. As background, my wife made an online payment for the initial invoice of $80.00 . That amount was shown withdrawn from our bank account payable to Lone Star. We then received a second bill showing 30 days past due for the $80.00. My wife mistakenly made a second payment and the withdrawal/payment was made to Lonestar from our bank account. That's 2 verifiable payments for $160.00. Today I received a 3rd notice 60 days past due again for $80.00! Their system is clearly flawed, yet they put the burden of proof on me that a payment was made. I had previous issues years ago where they over billed me necessitating a significant refund. Find options; their back office operations are terrible!!!! read more

Front office personnel are not friendly. This place treats patients like cattle. My husband couldn't even wait with me because there was no where for working family members to sit privately. They changed my time 3 times for the procedure before the day of. Then had the audacity to make me sit and wait in the lobby forever before taking me back. Once I went back the nurse took my history while standing in the bathroom because there was no privacy anywhere else. I could hear every conversation in the entire place. No way HIPAA can be followed there. read more

I honestly couldn't say enough wonderful things about the staff here!! After originally contacting them over a month in advance I received a call 2 weeks in advance confirming my insurance (I already knew they were in network as I checked with my insurance company prior) then received a few reminder calls a week before checking to make sure I had everything I needed regarding the prep. Upon arriving to my appointment one hour early as instructed I was extremely nervous as this was the first time ever having a Colonoscopy. The staff from the moment I arrived to the time I left were extremely friendly and answered all my questions and I truly felt at ease being there. I had a screening, just the other day, and words cannot express how well I was taken care of. From exiting the car, until returning back to the car. The staff was phenomenal every single individual and collectively. This is how authentic medical interactions should be. I made an appointment with Dr. Steffer over 2 months ago. It has to be a video call, due to Covid. They called last week to advise Dr. Steffer has to cancel my appointment, which is still 2 weeks away. But they can re-schedule me to see her Nurse Practitioner, but not for another month. On video. I've spoken to her Nurse, Janice, over the phone 3 times now and she is the most condescending Nurse I have EVER had the unfortunate experience with. As a patient, seeing a Gastro is a very private, sometimes embarrassing, experience. Janice couldn't have made me feel more uncomfortable. The lack of civility, cancelling appointments only to be re-scheduled weeks later with a NP, is unacceptable. After OVER 2 months of waiting, I'll start over and find a new Gastro who can find the time for his or her patients. read more

Even though I was miserable and very cranky from 13 hours of no sleep, no coffee and brutal prep for my colonoscopy & endoscopy yesterday, these people are great. I found everyone there to be understanding, patient with my bitchy self & compassionate. (ps, I apologized to the front desk gal today when she called to check on me lol) I find the other 2 reviews here ridiculous and the empty complaints of idiots who didn't do their due diligence as clients. Ok so I may still be a little loopy from the drugs, but this was an actual pleasant experience! I'm not gonna lie and say the prep was fun, that part sucked. But basically one night spent mostly in the bathroom as I expelled what seemed like food I ate last Christmas was totally in stark contrast to the ease of the experience of my colonoscopy. The staff was extremely friendly, helpful and kind. I was there an hour early, as my instructions said, checked in, was called back, prepped and headed home less than two hours later with my results. My husband had his first routine colonoscopy at the Southlake, TX location and we couldn't say enough good things about the experience. Having a rave review after your colonoscopy is certainly not something that you expect but the entire staff was kind, helpful, and attentive. We were in and out in less time than we were prepared for, the staff made my husband feel comfortable with the process and the whole experience was a breeze. I don't know how you could have a better healthcare experience. From the moment you arrive the smiling and friendly team takes care of you like someone special. My visit was a breeze. Could not recommend Dr. Lacey and team more. Warm blankets, socks and gowns - ooohhhh boy! They validated my insurance many weeks before and had clear prep instructions. I had to move my appointment to later in the day to coordinate the 2-step prep and to get a good night's sleep. The whole process was a non-event. Could not have been done any better. read more

Service at the center during my procedure was great!! I have colon cancer in my family so I have regular visits to this place. HOWEVER THEIR BILLING DEPARTMENT / INSURANCE billing NOT HAPPY WITH. It has taken at least 10+ phone calls between them and my insurance to straighten things out. I am due a refund and the Southlake Manager has not returned my call. I paid $1,000 + up front and my procedure was incorrectly billed to insurance, heck they billed for the wrong procedure They said the insurance denied the endoscopy but I had the colonoscopy anyway. I had to get a 3 way conversation with my insurance on the phone with them. It took me 3 phone calls to them for them to realize I did not have an endoscopy! which my insurance denied. I am still waiting on my refund. My surgery was in January. read more

My parents' doctor recommended this office for their colonoscopies. Literally every patient came into the waiting room and was called back in less than 20 minutes. My mom needed to be here at 8:00, so we were here 10 minutes early. After 30 minutes my mom asked when she would be pulled back since they had just called a patient for her doctor, Dr. Steffer, after being told she was the doctor's first patient of the day. They informed my mom she was not the first patient and they would call her soon. After we had been there an hour, I went and asked when they planned to pull her back since we had been there an hour. The lady at the desk helpfully informed me everyone actually has to be there an hour before their appointment to get prepped. I asked how they planned to prep her from the waiting room. She sent someone else to ask when my mom would be pulled back. 78 minutes after being told to be there and 88 minutes after arriving, they finally pulled her back and didn't so much as say they were sorry for the wait. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

No one looks forward to this type of procedure, but the entire staff at Lone Star Endoscopy Center made the experience far more comfortable than I believed possible. From the friendly help at check in, Who also ensured my friend was comfortable, the friendly and efficient professional staff, and it--wait for it--pre-warmed gowns, bed, and blankets! The extra touches to help you relax meant a lot to me. Lone Star Endoscopy Southlake was deceitful by avoiding telling us they were out of network. They danced around in vs out of network by only talking about in network and we'd be billed as in network. We didn't find out they were out of network until I questioned them after I got my EOB. It took 3 times when I directly asked them to get a straight answer and they finally told me they were out of network but it wouldn't cost me anymore. I felt like I was talking to a fast talking saleswoman trying to take advantage of me and they have. My daughter and I have had 30 of these, so we are well versed. This was her first one in an endoscopy center since she is now an adult, kids are done in hospitals usually. Procedure wise everything went well. read more

Nothing at all to do with COVID. Scheduled out over a month in advance and provided both of my medical insurance information to facility insurance verification department. Was contacted and told no charge to me. I asked if that included facility, anesthesia, biopsy ( if needed) and doctor. Had a shock several years ago and knew to ask. I assured by insurance verification that all was covered with no charge to me. On arrival I signed in and saw a bill on there sign in system of $648. I asked and the office staff said it was a "glitch " and I owed nothing. I asked again about charges and the women at the front desk said not charge but they did not know about anesthesia. I told her the insurance verification said all was covered. She said they have no way of knowing. Called insurance verification and they said it should be but didn't know. After the horrible prep I was ready to leave. No confidence. I spoke to doctor he stated I should be upset with my insurance because how they pay. The center had in their records how much my cost could be and FAILED to disclose ($1017) if I had polyps. I told they administrators that it was their duty to disclose. The doctor said patients were "surprised " with bills because insurance didn't cover for polyps when the center knew the cost and FAILED to inform me. read more
