I was recommended to Dr. Alvarez by a friend who is a patient of hers. My PCP sent over the referral. I was not allowed to make an appointment with Dr. Alvarez when I called them. First, I was told there had to be a "transfer of care" because I previously saw a doctor in their group (GI Alliance) two years ago. They said that the transfer was pending, a mere formality, and that I should hear back later that day. No one ever called me back so today, I drove over to their office. I spoke with the Office Manager, who flat out said Dr. Alvarez had looked over my chart and is refusing to see me. NO REASON WAS GIVEN. Huh?? That is a first for me. I've never been denied to see a doctor for non-insurance reasons. My PCP's office then called over to them and was again told about the "transfer of care". That's not what the Office Manager had stressed to me. Seems no one has any clue what's going on here and I still have no real idea why Dr. Alvarez is refusing to see me. I urge anyone wanting a referral for her to exercise caution...and consider looking elsewhere. Texas area, and after looking at several YouTube videos on colonoscopy procedures and prep (look for Dr Kenneth Brown Jr.) I contacted him via you tube. He replied, and gave me some more info. How cool is that? Dr. Brown and his staff were exceptional in their attention to detail. A colonoscopy is a straightforward, and routine procedure that everyone should have- you have no excuse not to, as most insurance companies regard this as preventative maintenance, and prevents polyps from turning into cancer. Folks, it is a completely preventable disease, and you will be in most capable hands when you see Dr. Brown and his assistants. It went like this; Filled out paperwork, brought back, took questionnaire, administered an IV by an awesome nurse, checked on constantly, rolled back into the procedure room, where I met an awesome assistant. When I asked how she was doing, she said, "great- I'm saving lives!" I instantly loved her! We chatted a little bit , and Dr. Brown came in. Went through history, exchanged pleasantries, and off to business he went. Before I knew it I was up and ready to go home. Dr. Brown came by end explained the whole process on what he saw, and if I had any questions. At NO time was I rushed, and was told to call if I had any questions. The worst part was the MoviePrep cleansing. The easiest part was the procedure itself!
