Beef ribs Mac n cheese Cabbage
    Stephanie L.

I've been wanting to come here and I'm so happy I finally did! I was greeted immediately when I walked in. There was a bit of a line when I got there and it took some time for me to finally order. Once it was my turn I was greeted politely again by the lady behind the counter. She was as sweet as pie! I ordered the Oxtail dinner with Mac n cheese and candied yams. I also ordered the beef rib dinner with Mac n cheese and cabbage both dinners had a choice of either a dinner roll or cornbread. I also ordered a lemon pound cake - They had an abundance of deserts.. Both were absolutely Delicious! The oxtail was super tender and came over a bed of rice which was a surprise! The beef ribs were also very tender and glazed with bbq sauce, all the sides were yummy! I'm so happy I decided to try this place. You can tell they have a lot of regulars because they knew a lot of people by name. The establishment was clean, the staff were so sweet and accommodating, I'll be back to try some other items for sure! My total came up to about 45, the serving is generous and I felt like it was well worth it!

Oxtail, cabbage, mac & cheese and jalapeño cheese cornbread

I'm stretched out on my mom's sofa in a food coma. That's it; that's the review. I ordered oxtail, mac & cheese, and cabbage. It came with jalapeño cheddar cornbread. The oxtail, of course, came with gravy over rice. I managed to eat one of the three oxtail and a few bites each of my sides. The meat was tender and falling off the bone. The gravy paired perfectly with it and complemented the rice. The cabbage was cooked perfectly; not mushy and overcooked, well-seasoned. My mac & cheese had a nice, golden cheesy crust. The jalapeño cheese cornbread was golden with crispy brown edges and huge chunks of the pepper. Everything was perfect. I rarely say that about a meal but seriously it was perfect. I have more than enough left for dinner and possibly a late night snack. Londa's gives you plentiful portions for a great value. I also tried a little of my nephew's broccoli casserole. It was some of the best I've ever had, period. My next visit, I'm definitely getting some casserole. I can't wait to try other entrees but I'm hard pressed to get past anything other than oxtail. I'm determined to try though.

This is my second time ever coming here. This experience was better than the first (taste wise). The customer service was still just as great as the first visit over a year ago. If you're looking for some fresh, southern cooking at a great price, this is your spot. The food was flavorful and seasoned to perfection. The only thing that threw me was the fish tasted more like Tilapia versus Fried Flounder. But the Yams and Mac were noth really good! I love cornbread however their cornbread isn't that great, luckily they don't charge for it.

I don't write reviews while sitting in a restaurant. Today was the exception. I walked in and was greeted kindly. The place is clean and orderly. That's always a nice touch. My vegetable plate included Mac and cheese, sweet potatoes, and greens. I cleaned the plate! I added a little pepper to the greens but other than that, the meal was scrumptious. I will be back (in my A. Schwarzenegger voice)! Oh, the little one got the three wings meal with two sides and ate every bit! Very nice. BTW our meal totaled $20 and some change. Not bad for a meal that was worth every penny. The restaurant was beginning to fil before we left. They are located in a Mountain Island shopping center in the Northwest corner of Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road & Highway 16. Trees may obscure your view but it is there. I found the shopping center to be nice and quiet on a warm Saturday afternoon.

Nice location, easy parking, and seating with ample room.

Londa's Place is a buffet style, soul food restaurant with a good location. I agree with the reviews by Ashley D. and Chris H. Clean facility, courteous staff, wide selection, and decent prices. My fried chicken was lightly breaded (not battered), moist and tasty. Everyone has their riff on mac-n-cheese. Londa's I'd order again. Her collards, however, were good but I'm not keen on the sweetness. Overall, a pleasant experience and looking forward to tasting some of her other fixins. When in the area I say "Give Londa's Place a soulful whirl!"

Wing plate. They only had two left and subd my ast wing with a thigh

Visiting some friends on this side of town and decided to order some takeout. It was on a Sunday around 6ish that we dropped in. Londa's closes at 7PM on Sunday's. With that said, they were out of some things and that was understanable. I ordered the fried wing plate with mac & cheese and collards. For our son, we ordered the baked wing plate (bc they were out of fried wings and fish) with mac n cheese and collards. Both plates came with an option of roll or cornbread. The wing plate usually comes with 3 wings and they only had two fried left and subd my third wing for a chicken thigh. I was totally fine with that. Once they returned we began to dig in. One of the first things I noticed were that the baked wings were a bit dry, so my son didn't really eat it. However, he did enjoy the sides. My plate, the wings were pretty bland and soggy. I went with the wings based on some of the pictures I saw on Yelp and the reviews. Could just be that I literally got the last of the batch in regards to them being soggy. There definitely wasn't any flavor though. The chicken thigh on the other hand was flavorful and dind't seem like the last of the gang. My sides were good too. I'd be open to trying Londa's again, on a not so close to closing visit. The pictures from other patrons look great and the reviews are too. Just wasn't a hit for us that evening.

It's one…read moreof those comfort foods I don't eat often because it's so rich--but when I see it on a menu, it absolutely catches my attention. That's exactly what drew me to The Southern Pecan in SouthPark. Here in the South, they call it country fried steak, and I'm happy to report this one did not disappoint. I met a colleague there for lunch, and everything about the experience felt easy from the start. The restaurant is located in Phillips Place, a lovely little shopping area that feels a bit polished and upscale--with shops like Orvis, Tory Burch, and even a Restoration Hardware restaurant nearby. They do offer valet parking, which is a nice touch, though honestly parking is easy enough on your own. We had reservations through OpenTable and were seated on the patio, which was absolutely delightful for this time of year in Charlotte. The weather was perfect, the setting was relaxed, and the service started off warm and welcoming right away. Now, the food. The country fried steak was beautifully cooked--crispy on the outside, tender inside, and served with creamy mashed potatoes and gravy that hit all the nostalgic notes from my Texas upbringing. I paired it with a vegetable side (I believe it was broccoli or corn), and it was a classic Southern plate done right. We also enjoyed a couple of cocktails, and to finish, we split a praline bread pudding, which felt like the perfect Southern ending to the meal--sweet, comforting, and indulgent without being overwhelming. The staff was friendly and attentive, and one of the things I continue to appreciate about Charlotte is how easy it is to connect with people. We even chatted with diners at nearby tables, which added to that welcoming, community feel that makes dining out here so enjoyable--especially for someone coming from the Bay Area. Prices felt fair for the quality, the setting, and the portion sizes, and overall the experience left a great impression. Bottom line: If you're craving a solid Southern classic like country fried steak--or just want a relaxed patio lunch in a charming part of SouthPark--The Southern Pecan is definitely worth a visit. And as someone happily eating my way through Charlotte and the Southeast, this stop was another reminder that the journey has been a delicious one.

I've heard rave reviews about this place so Michelle & I went for Sunday Brunch…read more They recommended a reservation so we had one @ 12n. It was already quite busy when we arrived and it's not clear where your parking options are. People are pulling up to the entrance and dropping people off so it gets jammed up and chaotic, of course people are running late so those BIG Yukons and Suburbans are making it a challenge to navigate a small entrance area. You would THINK they would at least have a Valet option of Sat/Sun during Brunch. To park, go BEHIND the restaurant on the street to the left and you'll see some free parking options that are close and walkable. We asked for a table on the patio and were immediately seated. The bar was already buzzing with solo diners enjoying their Mimosas. The patio is NOT that big, a little over crowded and table are very close with not much space in between. There was a LARGE group of 'FUN' ladies right beside us enjoying their MIMOSAS, dropping the 'F' bomb from time to time and making a LOT of noise. What can you do? Nothing but try to make the best of it and just start talking LOUDER like everyone else. The OVERHEAD heaters were way too intense so the Staff was very responsive at our request to turn down the heat. We shared the BBQ Shrimp Starter which was SO good, I highly recommend. I had the Gumbo and Michelle had the beet and goat cheese salad. We both had the Red Fish which comes with smashed potatoes and broccoli. The potatoes were so BLAND, the broccoli had NO seasoning. The Red Fish wasn't that great of a flavor and not very tender, not easy to cut, had to use my knife at times to get a bite. Kinda disappointed, I lived in N Orleans for a couple of years and it was always so good there. The biggest disappointment was the Gumbo. It had all the right ingredients but the ROUX was to strong, dark and heavy. It actually gave me indigestion afterwards. The service was OUTSTANDING. Our Server was Daylean, she was so nice and helpful with the menu and kept our refills coming.

They even still have the 120 year old pews! If you ask your server, you are likely to hear the entire story of the place. It's pretty amazing. They recently received a Michelin recommendation and it's totally deserved. It's a buffet, but most of the hot food is actually served by a person which is something that I particularly appreciate. (I really don't like touching the handles of spoons that hundreds of people have touched.) Some of the stuff is self serve but not any of the hot dishes. Absolutely everything I tried was outstanding. Like everything. There are a few things that they consider "pass around" which means that they are brought over to you by a server at random intervals. For everything else, you just help yourself. I went with a friend of mine who has a deep appreciation for a southern food. He was absolutely amazed. Honestly, I can't think of a better place to have chosen to eat in a short time I had in Charlotte. I've attached a picture of the menu. I tried just about everything. My friend found this spot and I have to say, I'm not going to say the "S" word - because it didn't apply. It was all Hospitality. Pretty much the entire line up of options. Not a condescending or impatient tone - warm and welcoming. Same with the next person. Even convinced my friend to get a dessert. Not that I need my arm twisted. The dining area was well kept. Clean. The condiments were well stocked and organized. I saw two different team members taking care of business there even asking if I needed anything. Bathrooms were immaculate. Don't see that very often - at least I don't in public places. The food was what we were looking for. Comfort food. With taste, not muted - just good flavor and consistency. A far cry from the bland, dry foods we had experienced the days prior. It was one of the first meals I really enjoyed on this trip to NC. Not saying that others were bad - they just didn't align with my taste preferences/expectations. Something about how Fried Chicken and Pork Chops are prepared in the South (or NOT California). Tender. Juicy. Mac & Cheese - not watery or overcooked. And I don't think I've ever had bad collared greens in my life. It's one of the handful of green vegetables I love having. Almost forgot parking. It's in kinda a plaza/strip mall setting. Free space and lots when we went (lunch). Not having to look for or pay for parking is always a plus for me. So, it's a chain. But I'd definitely go back.
